one of these kits. In specialcases,custom installations

Inany installation the followinglimitationsMUST NOT
BE EXCEEDED:
1. Trie total length ofthe intake or exhaustpipeshould
not exceed 10 feet (3.05m) with 3 elbows, 13 feet
(3.96m) with 2 elbows, or 16'/2 feet (5.3m) with 1 elbow.
2. Theseelbowsshould include theone used atthe
heater butnottheoneontheair supplyhose northe
integral bends inthe flue pipe. (SeeFigure 2)
3.The correctdamper as shown on Page 14 must be
used.

NOTICE BEFOREINSTALLATION
The heater must be installed bya qualifiedservice
person according to thisinstallation instruction .
The installationmustconformwith local codes or,inthe
absence of local codes, the Nationalfuel Gas Code,
ANSIZ223.1/NFPA54.
The installationmustconformwithlocalcodes or,inthe
absence of local codes, the current CAN 1-B149
INSTALLATION CODE.
For mobile housing and recreational vehicle installation the
current Standard" CSAZ 240.4 GAS EQUIPPED
RECREATIONAL VEHICLES AND MOBILEHOUSING.
A manufacturedhome (mobile home)installationmust
conform with the ManufacturedHomeConstruction
and Safety Standard,Title 24 CFR,Part3280, or, when
such a standard isnot applicable, the Standard for
ManufacturedHome installations, ANSI A 225.1/NFPA
501A.
Due to high temperatures, the appliance should be
located outof traffic and awayfrom furniture and
draperies.
Children and adults should be alerted tothe hazards of
high surfacetemperatures and should stayaway to
avoid burns or clothingignition.
Young children should be carefullysupervisedwhen
they areinthe sameroom asthe appliance.
Clothing or otherflammablematerial should notbe
placed onor near the appliance.
Make surethat the flow of combustion and ventilation
airisnot obstructed.
Any safety or guardremoved for servicing an appliance
must be replaced prior to operating the appliance.

cracked or broken.Replacement ofthe panel should be

Installation and repair should be done bya qualified

HEATER INSTALLATION
Step 1: Fill Out OwnerRegistration Card
Remove yourownerregistrationcardfrom the plastic
envelope containing the owner's guide. It should be
filled outand mailed as soon as possible.
Step 2: Check for Parts

Step 3: Choose a Location for Your Heater
In choosing a location for your heater, the following
guidelines must be considered:
•Theheater maybe installed on combustible flooring on
the metal tray provided.
•Theareaaround the heater should be free of obstacles
thatmightinterferewith the freeflow of air.Allow the
clearancesshown in Figure 4.
•Theheatermust notbe installed ina fireplace.
•AnAC walloutletmust be within reach ofthe heater's
power cord. Extensioncordsmust notbe used.
•Theareaoutsidewhere the flue pipe will emerge should
be free of foliage,fuelstoragetanks and flammable
objects. Air should circulate freely inthe area.Allow the
clearancesshown in Rgure 6 onthe nextpage.
•Refer to Figure 4 to provide adequate accessibility clearances
for servicing.
•The wallwhere flue pipehole will becut should be free of
plumbing pipes,electrical wires, studs, air ducts and other
obstacles.
NOTE: Use the cardboard template provided withyour
heater for flue pipe location.

Step 4: Drill a PilotHole
NOTE:The following directions apply to "standard"
installation. For other methods, follow instructions
included with accessorykits.
For walls up to 8'/z inches (22.0cm) thick, usea
standard flue pipe; for walls up to 12 '/z inches
(31.5cm) thick, use a medium adjustable flue pipe
kit; and for walls up to 20 inches (50.5cm) thick,
use a long adjustable flue pipekit.
Use the template to position the hole tobe drilled. The
"bluedot"indicates the exactcenter ofthe hole.Using
an electric drill anda long drill bit,make a pilothole
through the wall (Figure 5).Be sure the hole extends
through the outsidewall.

^CAUTION: The opening on the inside wall should
be approximately 'A inch higher than onthe outside
wall so the flue pipe will slope downward when
installed. This will allow condensation to drain
outdoors.

FLUE PIPE CLEARANCES
• Vent terminalmust be located at least 3 feet above any forced air inletlocatedwithin 10 feet.
•The vent terminal ofa direct vent appliancewith an input of 50,000 Btuper hour or lessshall be located at least 9
inches from any openingthroughwhichflue gases could enter a building, and such an appliancewith an input over
50,000 Btuper hour shallrequire a 12-inch vent terminationclearance. The bottom ofthe vent terminal andtheair
intakeshall be located at least 12 inchesabove grade.
• Flue pipeinstallationsshouldprovide for venting toa confined space throughwhich there isa free flow of outdoor
air. Clearances to adjacent walls or obstacles mustcomplywith the requirements shown below.

Step 5:Cutthe Hole forthe Flue pipe
Using a hole saw attachment andan electric drill, cuta 2'/2
inch diameterholethrough the inner and outerwalls
(Figure 7).
After the hole is cut, usea straight edge anda level to
be sure the inside opening is approximately 'A inch
higher than the outside opening.
NOTE: After cutting the inside wall, remove the
insulation. Make sure there are no obstructions
inside the wall, such as electrical wiring, water
pipes, hot air ducts, etc.

From INSIDE the building,insert the flue pipe A (with
arrow pointing"up")into the hole. Fasten the flue pipe
with the 3#8X 3/4 tapping screws (Figure8and 9 ).

Step 8: Level the cabinet
Place tray onthe floor where you plan to locate
your heater.
Position the heater onthe tray sothe legs ofthe
cabinet fit into the circular indentations inthe tray.
In order for heater to operate properly. It must be
positioned ona levelsurface.Ensureproperleveling by
adjustingeach legandby using a carpenters level to
check both side to side, and front to backlevel
condition. (Figure 15)
Step 10: Connect the Heater tothe Flue Pipe
Move the heatertoward the wall, guiding the joint pipe
into the centerport ofthe flue pipe(Figure17).
Be sure the joint pipe is completelyinsertedinto the
flue pipe.

Step 9: Install the Joint Pipe
At the rear ofthe heater, slide the large end opening of
the joint pipe into the exhaustportoutlet ofthe heater.
Be sure the jointpipe is fullyseated. Slide the cloth
insulation cover over the jointpipe(Figure 16).
The o-ringsthatseal the joint pipe maybedryand
tight. A little soapywater will ease installation.
Step 11: Install theAir Damper
If installation is standard(that is,no extensionkits are
required), place theair dampermarkedwith a
"STANDARD" over theair intakeflange onthe flue pipe
(Figure 18).
Place the hosebandaround theendoftheair supply
hose.Push theair supplyhoseonto theair intake
flange and secure the hosewith the hoseband.

NOTE: Do not place intake hose onto metal capped

NOTE: The "STANDARD" damper is to be used with
extension kits up to a total overall length of 20
inches and a maximum of 3 bends (90° elbow).
The "EXTENSION" damper must be used when
extension kit or kits exceed 20 inches.
Step 12: Install the Flue Pipe Holder
Place the ring of flue pipe holder around the metal capped
exhaust port. The other side ofthe holderhooks ina slot '
directlyabove the jointpipe atthe rear ofthe heater
(See Figure 19).
Step 14: Recheck the Heater
Before proceeding, checkagain tobe surethere areno
flammable materialsclose tothe heater.Re-check that
the heater is level.
Examine the flue pipe tobe sure connections are tight.

WARNING: Failure to position the parts in accordance

Step 13: Secure the Heater
Insert the narrowends ofthe2 wall clamps into sockets
onthe rear ofthe heater.
Loosen the2 #8X5/16 adjustmentscrews and extend
the clamps until theytouch the wall. Fasten the clamps
to the wallwith 2 #8X3/4 tappingscrews.
Fasten the adjustment screws.

SECTION E
GAS CONNECTION
I.The gas supply line shall be gas-tight, sized andso
installed asto provide a supply ofgas sufficient to
meet the maximumdemand ofthe heaterwithoutloss
of pressure.
2.A shut off valve should be installed inthe upstream of
the gas line to permit servicing.
3. Flexible pipe andany appliance connector valve used
for gas piping shall be typesapproved by nationally
recognizedagencies.
4. Any compoundused onthe threaded joint ofthegas
piping shall bea typewhich resists the action of
liquefied petroleumgas.
5. Supplied gas pressuremust be within the limits shown
inthe specifications.
6. After completion ofgas connections, all joints;including
those atthe heater must be checked for gas-
tightness by means of leak detector solution,soap
and water, oran equivalentnonflammablesolution, as
applicable.
ACAUTION: Sincesomeleak test solutions, including
soap and water, may causecorrosion or stress
cracking, the piping shall be rinsedwithwaterafter
testing,unless ithas beendeterminedthat the leak
test solution is noncorrosive.

7. The appliance andits appliancemain gas valve must be
disconnected from thegas supply piping system during
any pressure testing of that system at test pressures in
excess of1/2 psi(3.5kPa).
The appliance must be isolated from thegas piping
system by closing its equipmentshutoffvalveduring
any pressuretesting ofthegas supply piping system
at test pressureequal toor lessthan 1/2 psi(3.5kPa).
8. A 1/8" test plug is provided for testing of manifold
pressure see schematic for location (page 27)
At time of installationinstallermustsupply a 1/8"
N.P.T. pluggedtapping,accessible for test gauge
connection,immediatelyupstream ofthegas supply
connection ofthe appliance.
9. The minimum and maximuminlet gas supply pressure
areforthe purpose of input adjustment.
GAS CONVERSION
Conversion should only be performed bya qualified
Monitor GF service technician.
The conversion shall be carried outin accordance with
the requirements ofthe provincial authoritieshaving
jurisdiction andin accordance with the requirements of
theCAN 1-B149.1 and.2 installation code.

CONVERSION INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED INTHE

A. Thisappliancedoes not have a pilot. It is equipped
with an ignitiondevicewhichautomaticallylights the
burner. Donottryto light the burner by hand.
B. BEFOREOPERATING smell all around the appliance
area for gas. Be sure to smellnext tothe floor
because some gasis heavierthan airand will settle
onthe floor.
WHAT TODOIFYOU SMELL GAS
•Donottryto light any appliance.
•Donot touch any electricswitch; donotuseany
phone in your building.
• Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor's
phone. Follow thegas supplier's instructions.
•Ifyou cannotreachyour gas supplier,call the fire
department.
C. Use onlyyourhand to push inor turn thegas control
knob.Never use tools. Ifthe knob will not push inor
turn by hand, don't tryto repeat it, call a qualified
servicetechnician.Force or attemptedrepair may
result ina fire or explosion.
D.Donotuse thisappliance ifany part has beenunder
water. Immediatelycall a qualified servicetechnician
to inspect the appliance andto replace any part of
the control system andanygas control which has
been under water.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
STOP! Read the safety informationabove on thislabel.
1. Setthe thermostat to lowestsetting.
2. Turn offall electric power tothe appliance viathe
ON/OFFswitch onthe controlpanel.
3. This appliance is equippedwith an ignition device
whichautomaticallylights the burner. Donottryto
light the burner by hand.
4. Turn manual valve at rear of unit clockwise tothe full
OFF position. ^~>
5. Wait five (5)minutes to clear outany gas.Thensmell for
gas, including near the floor. Ifyou then smellgas, STOP!
Follow "B"inthe safety informationabove on thislabel.
If you don't smellgas, goto nextstep.
6.Turn manual gas valve tothe full ON position. /^
/.Turn onall electricpower tothe appliance.
8. Setthe thermostat to desired setting.
9.Ifthe appliance will not operate,follow the Instructions
"To Turn OffGasTo Appliance" and call yourservice
technician orgas supplier.
TO TURN OFFGASTO APPLIANCE
1. Turn off electricpower tothe appliance using the ON/OFF switchlocated onthe front of unit.
2. Turnmanualvalveclockwise tothe full OFF position. /~^
NOTE: The fan will continue to operateuntil the appliance is cool, do not turn the appliance off by unplugging it from
the wall.
Unplug the appliance only after unit is cooled down.

STARTING INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Plug inthe Heater
Plug intheAC cord, and route it away from the area ofthe
flue pipe. Itis recommended that no otherappliance share
the sameoutlet.
NOTE: When the unit is operated for the first time or the
gas piping is replaced, the unit may not come ON
the first few times since air is in the piping. In this
case, repeat the starting procedures.
Step 2:Set "ON" Button
Depress the ON/OFFbutton tothe "ON"position
(Figure21). The "Operation" light willilluminate,
indicating the heater ison.
Burnlampwilllight and ignition will start after
approximately 20 seconds. In90 seconds the circulation
fan will start to operate, and warm air will be felt coming
through the cabinet grill.

ADJUSTING ROOM TEMPERATURE
Pressing either the "Up" or "Down" button will increase or
decrease theset temperature by2 degree increments.
Once desired temperature is displayed, press set button
to lock into memory.
The heater will automaticallychange its heatoutput until
the desired roomtemperature is reached. While it cycles,
youmay hear the circulation fan changespeed.
Depending onthe outputrequired to maintain the desired
roomtemperature.
The heater will shut itself off temporarily when the desired room temperature has been reached and restart automatically when
necessary to maintain room temperature.
NOTE: The heater may display room temperature 4 degrees above set temperature, depending on heater load
conditions, before shutting itself off.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ECONOMY PLUS MODE
To engage the economy plus mode, simply press down the button labeled "Economy Plus", to disengagepressagain.
NOTE: Operation switch must be "ON" and in manualmode.
This feature minimizes the "ON" and "OFF"cycling ofthe unit by allowing itto overshoot theset temperature by8
degrees instead ofthe normal 4 degrees.
The advantages of thisfeature areto increase the overallefficiency ofthe unit by:
1. Reducingheat loss during the prepurge and postpurgecycles.
2. Reducinginefficientcombustionassociated with start upand shut down.
3. Prolonging componentlife by decreasingexpansion and contraction of internalparts.
NOTE: This feature could be compared to driving an automobile in stop and go traffic (regular mode) versus highway
driving with cruisecontrol engaged (Economy Plus mode).
