CONTROL AND USE OF THE STU II/B SECTEL.
The STU II/B SECTEL (Eigures 1and 2) secure telephone is interoperable
with existing STU II equipment. Eigures 1and 2show the buttons and indi¬
cators explained in this quick reference guide.

KEYPAD-A standard telephone keypad.
AUTOVON/IVSN BUTTONS -The four AUTOVON/IVSN buttons
provide the user with precedence capability. They operate as follows:
Sends aFlash Override signal (highest priority) to the AUTO VON or
IVSN network.
Sends aFlash signal (second priority) to the AUTOVON or IVSN net¬
work.
Sends an Immediate signal (third priority) to the AUTOVON or IVSN
network.
Sends aPriority signal (lowest priority) to the AUTOVON or IVSN
network.
MEMORY DIAL BUTTONS -Two rows of eight memory dial but¬
tons used for speed dialing and abbreviated dialing storage (ADS).

FUNCTION BUTTONS
The following list describes the function buttons.
Places the terminal in secure mode if avalid CIK is in¬
serted.
Places the terminal in clear mode; enables clear mode calls
during aloss of power.
Advances Message Display text to present additional infor¬

FUNCTION BUTTONS (cont).

modes. If set for 4800 bps secure operation, selects be¬
tween voice mode, simultaneous voice/data mode, and data
mode.
VOICE
DATA
TONE
PULSE Alternates between tone or pulse dialing.
Disables handset microphone to prevent other party from
overhearing the conversation.
Used to select one of three operational modes: KDC, Net
or Multipoint.
MUTE
MODE
Automatically repeats last dialing sequence entered.
REDIAL
Enters and exits program mode.
PRGM
Used to release and recapture phone line with handset off-
hook and for certain memory dial button functions.
Used to enter atime delay (1 to 9seconds) into any dialing
sequence.
Used to send asignal to access special telephone network
functions.
Increases either ringer volume when handset is on-hook, or
handset earpiece and speaker volume when handset is off-
hook.

Decreases either ringer volume when handset is on-hook,
or handset earpiece and speaker volume when handset is
off-hook.
Alternately turns terminal speakerphone on and off when
operating in the clear voice mode or 9600 bps and 4800
bps secure voice mode.

Allows user to select modem bit rate of either 2400 bps
half-duplex, 2400 bps full-duplex, 4800 bps or 9600 bps.

prompts used to operate the terminal.

The display consists of two rows of 16 characters each, located between the
13 annunciators.
The following annunciators (small messages on each side of the alphanu¬
meric portion) constantly indicate the current terminal operating mode and
dialing parameters.
Indicates terminal is operating in secure mode.
Indicates terminal is set for clear mode operation.
Indicates handset microphone is disabled.
Indicates terminal is set for voice mode operation.
Indicates terminal is set for data mode operation (only used in
secure mode).
Indicates terminal will send tone dialing signals when the user
enters phone numbers.
Indicates terminal will send pulse dialing signals when the user
enters phone numbers.
Indicates terminal is operating in program mode.
Indicates terminal is set to operate half duplex in the secure
mode. In secure mode, the person speaking has aT(transmit)
on the message display, while the listener’s shows an R(re¬
ceive). If message display does not show Tor R, the line is idle
and either party may begin speaking.
Indicates terminal is operating in speaker phone mode.
Indicates terminal operates at 2400 bps in the secure mode.
Indicates terminal operates at 4800 bps in the securemode.
Indicates terminal operates at 9600 bps in the securemode.

KDC Mode -Self Call
Each time the terminal is filled with Unique
fill, the user must complete the following six
steps before placing aSTU II KDC Mode call.
1. Press
2. Insert CIK. Turn it one-quarter turn clock¬
wise.
3. Lift handset.
4. Enter local five-digit ID.
5. Call KDC
6. When call completed, hang up.

cure conversation.

4. Speak into handset or speakerphone.
