Pelvic Examination

About the Simulators
The Life/form® Pelvic Examination
Simulators are designed to facilitate
the teaching, demonstrating, and
practicing of pelvic examination for
the detection of tumors. Every effort
has been made to provide exceptional
realism in the simulators so that the
visual and tactile sensations experi-
enced provide a positive transition to
patient procedures.
Internal Structure
Each simulator was made from the
same mold and are identical except
for the palpable internal pathology.
One of the simulators is considered
“normal” with normal ovaries, cervix,
and uterus. The other, “abnormal”
simulator has one ovary with a cyst
and the other ovary with a solid tumor.
The uterus has changes simulating a
fibroid.
Procedures That Can Be Performed
on These Simulators
Palpation and manipulation with hands
and fingers in and on the internal and
external genitalia, abdominal wall,
ovaries, and uterus can be performed
with very realistic tactile experience.
Bony landmarks and normal and
atypical organs are anatomically
correct in size, shape, texture, and
location. The tumor and masses are
texturally realistic and are accurately
placed anatomically.
These simulators are intended for
digital examination only. The use of a
vaginal speculum is not intended or
recommended.
General Instructions for Use
The use of gloves and liberal use of
lubricant teach and reinforce good
practices and are essential to protect-
ing the internal surfaces of the simula-
tors. The simulators must be treated
like patients. Rough usage and lack
of lubrication will generate tears and
ruptures in the soft internal plastics.
CAUTION: Do not use any petroleum-
based lubricants. Use of such lubri-
cants will cause rapid deterioration and
permanent damage. Use Life/form®
Lubricant Kit (LF00985U) or Ivory®liq-
uid soap only.
Care of the Simulators
Store simulators in clean plastic bags
(garbage bags). Soft plastic needed in
manufacture does attract dust. Never
place simulators on newsprint or any
kind of printed paper or plastics. They
will leave indelible stains. The simula-
tors can be cleaned with mild soap
(Ivory®liquid soap) and warm water.
Use Nasco Cleaner (LF09919U) to
remove stubborn stains.
