Xeon Processor Kit
User’s Guide
The User's Guide is intended to allow you to install and use the Xeon Processor Kit.
N8101-601F/602F/603F/604F/605F correctly and safely.
Read this manual thoroughly before handling the Kit.
In addition, refer to this guide whenever you want to know how to use the Kit or some
malfunction occurs. Always keep this guide at hand so that you can see it when necessary.
For the server in which the Kit is installed, refer to the User’s Guide of the server.
Read “Notes on Use” carefully before handling the Kit.

Unplug the power

Notes On Use
Please be sure to protect the following notes after picking out this product from a box.
Do not use the server in the place where dust, water or liquid may pour.
Do not use the server in the place where the strong electromagnetic waves generate
Do not touch the terminals of the processor and the processor socket.
Transfer to Third Party
Make sure to provide this manual and all the accessories along with the product to a third party.

Install the Xeon Processor Kit
1．Preparation point to be checked
You need to remove server module when installing the processor :
Lift the lever while pushing the locking mechanism toward right. Hold the handle, and pull out the server
module horizontally,.
Important If you remove the server module from module enclosure, wait at least 30 seconds
before insert it again into enclosure.
２．Install the Xeon Processor Kit
Follow steps below to install the processor.
1. Locate the CPU socket to which you are going to install a processor.

2. Remove the protective cover from the CPU socket.
Note Keep the removed protective cover for future use.
3. Push down the socket lever once to unlatch it from the hook, then slowly open the lever until it stops.
4. Lift the plate.
Important Do not touch the socket contacts.

5. Put the additional processor on the CPU socket slowly and gently.
For easy installation, hold edges of processor with your thumb and index fingers so that the notch
is aligned with the key on the CPU socket.
Important Be sure to hold the processor only at the edges.
Pay attention not to touch the bottom of the processor (pin section).
Note Insert the processor while aligning the notch on the processor with the key on the CPU
socket.
Bring down the processor straight without tilting or sliding it in the socket.
6. Lightly push the processor to the CPU socket, and close the plate.
7. Close the socket lever to fix the processor.

8. Put the heat sink on the processor and fix the heat sink with four screws.
Temporarily tighten the four screws diagonally, then tighten them securely.
Make sure that the screw aligns with the screw hole. If not, the screw may damage the motherboard.
Important Use the heat sink that comes with your server, when you install the CPU1
(Basic).
Need the additional heat sink (N8101-609F), when you install the CPU2
(Optional).
Note Make sure the location to put the heat sink.

9. Make sure that the heat sink is installed on a level with the motherboard.
Note If the heat sink is not level, remove it, and then install it again.
The following probably causes the heat sink not to be level:
– The CPU is not positioned correctly.
– All screws are not completely tightened.
Do not move the secured heat sink.
10. Continue to install or remove internal optional devices, mount and connect the server, and turn the
server on.
11. Run BIOS Setup Utility (SETUP) to confirm the following settings. Refer to Chapter 2 (1. System BIOS) in
"Maintenance Guide".
