SAFETY NOTES
This section provides several precautions to enable you to use the product safely and
correctly and to prevent injury and property damage. Read this section carefully to ensure
proper and safe use of the product. For symbols, see "SAFETY INDICATIONS" provided
earlier.
General Attention
Do not use in life-critical applications or applications requiring high reliability.
This device is not intended for integration with or control of facilities or equipment
that may affect human life or that require a high degree of reliability, such as
medical equipment, nuclear power facilities, aerospace instruments, and
transportation equipment. The manufacturer does not assume any liability for
accidents resulting in injury or death, or for any damages to property that may occur
as a result of using this device in such facilities, equipment, or control systems.
Do not use the Built-in LTO if any smoke, odor, or noise is present.
If smoke, odor, or noise is present, immediately turn off the POWER switch and
disconnect the power plug from the outlet, then contact your sales agent. Using the
Built-in LTO in such conditions may cause a fire.
Keep needles or metal objects away from the Built-in LTO.
Do not insert needles or metal objects into ventilation holes in the Built-in LTO.
Failure to follow this warning may cause an electric shock.
Keep water or foreign matter away from the Built-in LTO.
Do not let any kind of liquid (water etc.) or foreign matter (e.g., pins or paper clips)
enter the Built-in LTO. Failure to follow this warning may cause an electric shock, a
fire, or a failure of the Built-in LTO. When such things accidentally enter the Built-in
LTO, immediately turn off the power and disconnect the power plug from the outlet.
Do not disassemble the Built-in LTO. Contact your sales agent.

Attention to Power or Power Cord
Do not hold the DC cable with a wet hand.
Do not disconnect/connect the cable while your hands are wet. Failure to follow this
warning may cause an electric shock.
Do not install the device while the power is turned on.
Unplug the AC power cord from the main power source when installing/uninstalling
the device to/from server or connect it with the enclosure. Failure to follow this
warning may cause an electric shock.
Insert the DC cable into the outlet as far as it goes.
Heat generation resulting from a halfway inserted DC cable (imperfect contact) may
cause a fire. Heat will also be generated if condensation is formed on dusty blades
of the halfway inserted cable, increasing the possibility of a fire.
Do not connect the Built-in LTO by unspecified cabling.
Connecting or cabling with DC cable should be done in accordance with the
procedure specified in the User's Guide.
Unspecified connecting or cabling may cause an electric shock or a fire.
Do not use any damaged power cord.
If the power cord is damaged, immediately replace it with a new part of same type.
Do not repair the damaged section for reuse. Otherwise, the section repaired with
vinyl tape or the like will be overheated to cause an electric shock or a fire.
Use the authorized cable only.
Use only the specified cable when connecting the Built-in LTO with a server. Use of
an unspecified cable or connection by unspecified cabling may cause a fire.

Attention to Installing, Moving, Storing, Connection
Do not close the ventilation hole.
Do not close the ventilation hole in the front side of the Built-in LTO. Otherwise, its
internal temperature will rise to cause malfunctions or a fire.
Do not connect/disconnect the interface cables before unplugging the power
plug.
Before connecting/disconnecting the interface cables, disconnect the power plug of
the main power unit from the outlet. If the power is off but the power plug is still
connected, you may get an electric shock.
Do not use the unspecified interface cables.
Uses only the cable authorized by NEC and locate the device and connector before
connection. Use of an unauthorized cable or displaced connection may cause a
short circuit, resulting in a fire.
When handling or connecting the interface cables, keep the notes as follows: Do not tread on cables.
Do not load on the cable.
Insert the cable connector as far as it goes.
Do not use damaged cables.
Do not use damaged connectors.
Make sure that screwing or the like is done firmly.
Do not use or keep in the environment where corrosive gas exists.
Do not use Built-in LTO Auto Loader, installing in the environment where corrosive
gas (sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen dioxide, chlorine, ammonia, ozone,
etc.) exists.
In addition, do not set it up in the environment including the element (sodium
chloride and sulfur, etc.) that promotes corrosion in dust and air, and the
electro-conductive metal etc. The print plate in the device corrodes, and it might
cause the breakdown and smoking and the ignition.
When there is the above-mentioned doubt in the environment of use, please consult
with a store or a maintenance service company.
Avoid installation in extreme temperature condition.
Immediately after the power supply of the server is turned off, components in the
server including the internal hard disk drive or others are hot. Please install/detach
the device after confirming it is cold enough.

Attention to Handling or Maintenance
Do not disassemble, repair, or alter the Built-in LTO.
Never attempt to disassemble, repair, or alter the Built-in LTO on any occasion other
than described in this User's Guide. Failure to follow this instruction may cause an
electric shock or a fire as well as malfunctions of the Built-in LTO.
The following can be performed by the Built-in LTO user. Do not perform any other
type of disassembly than described here.
Remove or install brackets
Remove or install the DC signal cable
Do not handle while the power plug is connected.
Before handling or cleaning the Built-in LTO, disconnect the power plug of the main
power unit from the outlet. If the power is off but the power plug is still connected,
you may get an electric shock.
Insert the cables into the connectors as far as it goes.
Heat generation resulting from a halfway inserted cables or Interface cables
(imperfect contact) may cause a fire. Heat will also be generated if condensation is
formed on dusty blades of the halfway inserted cable, increasing the possibility of a
fire.

Attention to Operation
Do not insert your hands into the cartridge load compartment.
Do not insert your hands into the cartridge load compartment. Otherwise, the fingers
will be caught/pinched by the Built-in LTO to cause an injury.
Do not touch the Built-in LTO when it thunders.
If it starts thundering, do not touch any part of the Built-in LTO. Failure to follow this
warning may cause an electric shock or a fire.
Keep away pets.
Keep away pets from the Built-in LTO. Insertion their hair or excrements may cause
afire or an electric shock.

FOR PROPER OPERATION
To operate the Built-in LTO correctly, observe the following points.
For considerations on handling the data cartridge, refer to the chapter "Data Cartridge".
Do not turn off the server when the LED on the front of the Built-in LTO is blinking.
This may cause a machine failure or damage of backup data.
Do not store the Built-in LTO in a place subject to corrosive gas, chemicals, or
splash of chemicals.
Built-in LTO parts may be deformed or damaged and may not be able to
operate correctly.
Do not store the Built-in LTO in a place subject to strong vibrations.
This may cause the Built-in LTO to be defected.
As the data cartridge set in the Built-in LTO, use our "Data Cartridge."
If you use a data cartridge of other manufacturer, a read/write error may
occur.
Any data cartridge cannot be used as the system disk.
This may cause the OS to be started unsuccessfully and/or the data in the
data cartridge to be broken.
Do not disassemble data cartridges.
This may cause the data stored in the data cartridge to be broken. Inserting a
data cartridge having been disassembled into the Built-in LTO may cause the
Built-in LTO to be defected.
Do not bring a substance which generates magnetism close to data cartridges.
This cause the data stored in the data cartridges may be broken.
Eject the data cartridge when you are done performing a backup.
This may shorten the operational life of the data cartridge and/or case
malfunctions.

Thank you for purchasing the N8151-101 Built-In LTO.
N8151-101 Built-In LTO is LTO2 tape device.
To maximize the Built-In LTO functions, please read the instruction manual carefully before
use and fully understand how to handle the device.

OTHERS
Transfer to a Third party
If you transfer or sell the Built-in LTO to a third party, make sure that the transfer or sale
satisfies the following.
When you transfer or sell the Built-in LTO, be sure to include the instruction manual.
Other accessories
Accessories accompanying the Built-in LTO are necessary during setup and other
procedures, therefore be sure to include them.
Data on tape
It is the responsibility of the transferring or selling party to dispose of important data
stored on tape (such as sales forecasts or budgets) to avoid divulging it to a third party.
To this end, we strongly recommend that you dispose of all backed up data through
your backup software before transferring or selling the unit. For details about how to
perform this operation, refer to your backup software documentation. NEC does not
accept responsibility for information leaks to third parties.
Supplied software
When you transfer or sell the Built-in LTO, make sure that you include all the
software supplied with the unit and do not keep any copies of said software. Also,
make sure that the transfer satisfies the conditions specified in each supplied
software user license agreement.
Disposal of Consumed Parts and Equipment
For the disposal of the Built-in LTO and its cartridge, observe the waste disposal
rules of your local government. For details, contact the local government office.
Make sure to completely erase your data from the cartridge so that the data will never
be reused or illegally used.
Product Life
The life of the N8151-101 is five years.

Locking parts contained in the package or box will be required when removing the
Built-in LTO for transportation. Store them securely.
Depending on the environment connected to, some parts may not be usable.
However, when the environment is changed, these parts may become usable,

Built-In LTO
This section explained how to setup this device and the method of usage.
Data Cartridge
The Built-In LTO can save data by using data cartridges listed in the table below.
Data cartridge Storage capacity

PART NAME AND FUNCTION
The Built-In LTO has the following parts and functions.
Front
①
Cartridge load compartment (Cartridge Door)
The cartridge load compartment is a slot used to
mount or dismount the cartridge.

Ventilator
The ventilator cools and ventilates inside of the
device.
③
Eject button
The button is for ejecting the cartridge from the
tape drive.
④
Ready LED (green)
The Ready LED provides information about the
state of the drive with light.
⑤
Drive LED (amber)
The Drive LED provides information about error of
the hardware of the drive.
⑥
Tape LED (amber)
The Tape LED provides information about a defect
of a cartridge inserted the drive.
⑦
Clean LED (amber)
The Clean LED provides information about cleaning
of the drive.
Rear

SAS connector
Connect the internal SAS cable provided for the
drive.

DC connector (5 V/12 V)
DC connector supplies power to the tape device.
Plug in the DC power cable provided with the
device.

SETUP
The procedure to install the Built-In LTO to the systems like Express5800 series is
explained.
Before installing the Built-In LTO drive into the system, Latching rails are needed to be
installed onto the drive as shown in below.
Upper side mounting screw hole is used for tightening the Latching rail to the drive.
Attach the latching rails
Attach the latching rails as shown in the figure below. Secure the upper holes of the
latching rails with screws.
・Please use the correct latching rails which are attached with the system.
・Use the screws attached to the Built-in LTO for
latching rails. The attached screws are metric
screws (4.0 mm length, 3.5 mm under its
washer). Using a longer screw than them may
cause damage to the Built-in LTO internally and
malfunction may occur.

Connecting the Drive to the Server
・Specified SAS cable is used for the drive connection.
Turn off the power before installing or removing the Built-in LTO from the
server.
Always be sure to turn off the main power and unplug the power cord from the AC
outlet before installing/removing the Built-in LTO or connecting any cables. There is
a risk of electric shock if the Built-in LTO is installed or removed or any cables are
connected while the power cord is still plugged into an AC outlet.
The procedure for the installing the drive in a system is as follows.
In order to install the drive into the device installing unit, refer to the instruction guide
provided by that unit.
Some servers require the rails to be used. For details on how to install the rails,
refer to the server’s operating manual.
1. Remove the cover from the server.
2. Install the N8151-101 Built-In LTO as shown in the figure below.

