1 INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on your purchase of the NORAC UC4+ Spray Height Controller. This system is
manufactured with top quality components and is engineered using the latest technology to provide
operating features and reliability unmatched for years to come.
When properly used the system can provide protection from sprayer boom damage, improve sprayer
efficiency, and ensure chemicals are applied correctly.
Please take the time to read this manual completely before attempting to install the system. A thorough
understanding of this manual will ensure that you receive the maximum benefit from the system.

2 GENERAL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
Figure 1 depicts the general system layout of the UC4+ Spray Height Control system.

NOTICE:
Every effort has been made to ensure the
accuracy of the information contained in this
manual. All parts supplied are selected specially
to fit the sprayer to facilitate a complete
installation. However, NORAC cannot
guarantee all parts fit as intended due to the
variations of the sprayer by the manufacturer.
Please read this manual in its entirety
before attempting installation.
ATTENTION:
When installing the UC4+ Spray Height Control
system please be aware that at a point in the
installation your sprayer booms will be
inoperative until the installation is complete.
Any installation procedure requiring
boom movement will need to be done
first. Once the hydraulics have been
disconnected you must complete the electrical
installation before the booms become operative.

4 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
4.1 FUNCTIONALITY CHECK
Before beginning the install, ensure all hydraulic
boom functions are operating properly on the
sprayer.
oAll fold functions
oMain lift function
oWing tilt functions
oSlant function
4.2 EXISTING SYSTEM CHECK
oInspect boom suspension for loose parts or
wear.
oSet boom suspension to be critically damped
(Figure 4). Adjust the boom damper
accordingly.
A) Unlock the pendulum, and push boom tip
down approximately 75 cm (30 inches).
B) Hold the boom steady for a moment, and
release.
C) Ensure the boom returns to its relaxed
state as quickly as possible, with little to
no overshoot.

4.3 WING SENSOR INSTALLATION
4.3.1 Bracket assembly
1. Assemble the Breakaway Sensor Mounting
Brackets (B13) as show in Figure 5 and
Figure 6.

To assemble the breakaway sensor bracket:
a) Assemble the bolt and nut into the
collar.
b) Grease the bottom edge of the collar
and the angled tube of the base.
c) Place the collar onto the angled tube of
the mounting base.
d) Install the spring between the collar and
the upper ring of the base.
e) Insert tube through assembly and tighten
the collar
2. Mount the sensor bracket onto the boom.
If possible, mount the sensor
brackets while the booms are in
their folded position to ensure
that they will not interfere with
anything when the boom is folded
for transport.
3. The sensor mounting brackets can be
installed with the mounting base behind
(Figure 9) or in front of the tube (Figure
7).
It is advised to avoid mounting
the sensor bracket to a
breakaway portion of the boom
because a breakaway action can
cause the UC4+ Spray Height
Control system to FORCE a
boom close to the ground.
Please refer to the UC4+ Spray Height
Control system warranty at the end of the
UC4+ Spray Height Control
Operator’s Manual (M01) for
implications.
4. Mount the NORAC UC4+ ultrasonic sensor
(E02) into the sensor brackets. The sensors
should be oriented forward (ahead) of the
boom (see Figure 7 and Figure 9).
When installing the UC4+ sensors
(E02), start with the smallest
serial number on the left hand
side proceeding to the largest
serial number on the right hand
side (Figure 12).

5. Sensor cables should run through the
mounting bracket tube and then behind the
member the bracket is mounted onto.
Cable-tie the connector in place. The cable
must not be allowed to hang below the
boom (Figure 7).

Avoid mounting sensors in
locations where they may read
from parts of the boom as shown in
Figure 8.

4.3.2 General Guidelines
a) In its lowest position, the sensor mouth
must be 9 inches or more from the ground.
b) The bottom of the sensor must be at least 9
inches in front of the spray nozzles.
c) The bottom of the sensor must be at least 9
inches above the spray nozzles.
d) Ensure that there are no obstructions within
a 12-inch diameter circle projected directly
below the center of the sensor.
e) The sensor should be approximately vertical
at normal operating heights.

4.3.3 Suggested mounting for the wing bracket for TR4(R) boom
Use the round pipe clamps to fasten the UC4
sensor bracket to the TR4(R) boom. Mount the
sensor on the front-side of the boom, in the
position as illustrated in Figure 10 and Figure 11.
Ensure the clamps are tight to prevent the
bracket from rotating downward.

When arranging height sensors, install the serial numbers from lowest to highest, left to
right.
Apply a light coating of the supplied Permatex Anti-seize grease to all threaded parts upon
installation.

4.4 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
Ensure all cables are routed safely and securely
fastened using cable ties. Provide sufficient slack
in the cable where required (between the
moving and folding boom parts).
4.4.1 METEOR
1. Mount the UC4 control panel in the cab in a
suitable location. Leave the power switch
off.
2. Route power cable C10 from the tractor
cab to the sprayer hitch. One end connects
to the UC4 control panel.
3. Connect C14 to a suitable power supply in
the cab. Connect C14 to C10.
4. Connect C10 to C11. This connection
provides a hitch disconnect. Route the
other end of C11 (the end with multiple
connectors) to the rear of the sprayer, near
the large grey enclosure.
4.4.2 ALPHA
1. Mount the UC4 control panel in the cab in a
suitable location. Leave the power switch
off.
2. Connect one end of C10 to the UC4 panel.
Route power cable C10 from the cab into
the electronics compartment. This is the
compartment which is accessible from the
right-hand side of the machine, from the
outside. Route the C10 cable through the
access hole.
3. Connect C14 to a suitable power supply in
the cab. Connect C14 to C10.
4. Inside the electronics enclosure connect
C10 to C11. Route the other end of C11
outside of the enclosure. This may require
removing a rubber plug from the enclosure
wall (re-use the plug as a grommet by
cutting a hole through it). Route the other
end of C11 to large grey enclosure at the
rear of the sprayer.
4.4.3 Both Installs
1. Route sensor branch cable C02 along the
boom, and connect to each of the ultrasonic
sensors. Ensure cable is routed safely,
especially around all boom-fold points.
Ensure all connectors are tightly closed.
Dielectric grease may be applied in
connectors to help prevent exposure
from chemicals.
2. Connect sensor branch cable C02 to cable
C11. Ensure cable is routed suitably.

3. Connect cable C12, C13 and C16 to C11.
The loose ends of C12,C13 and C16
connect to terminals within the grey
electronics enclosure (Figure 13). Route
these cables through an opened hole in the
enclosure, and make connections as
indicated in Table 3. On cable C13 do not
remove the diode pack (the connectors that
are held together with a cable tie).
All connections “tee” into the terminal
(which already have a wire connected).
4. Close the electronics enclosure.
