Heated Follower Module with Steel Ring

Description
See Figure 1. The RhinorXD2H heated follower
module with steel ring mounts to Rhino XD2H pump
hydraulic sections. It is designed to force material out of
straight-sided material containers.
The heated follower module uses a PTFE-coated steel
ring (4) to pump high-viscosity urethane materials out of
foil bags. It is sized for a close-tolerance fit to the inner
diameter of the container. The ring collapses the foil bag
to prevent it from getting wedged between the follower
plate module and the container wall.
Lowering the heated follower plate module into a
container causes air buildup between the bottom of the
follower plate (2) and the material. Removing the
bleeder stem (1) from the adapter (3) before lowering the
follower plate provides a path for the air to vent.

Repair
WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to
perform the following tasks. Follow the safety
instructions in this document and all other
related documentation.
Repairs consist of replacing the RTD and the thermostat.
Perform the following to gain access to these parts:
1. See Figure 2. Perform the following:
SRemove the screws (1), lock washers (2), and
washers (3) securing cover A to gain access to
the thermostat.
OR
SRemove the screws (4), lock washers (5), and
washers (6) securing cover B to gain access to
the RTD.
2. Perform the desired repair procedure.

Replace the Thermostat
1. See Figure 3. Loosen the screws (1) on the terminal
block (2) and remove the wire leads (4).
2. Remove the screws (5) and washers (6) securing the
thermostat (7) to the follower plate (8).
3. Apply heat compound to the bottom of the new
thermostat (4).
4. Install the thermostat (4) onto the follower plate (5)
using the washers (2) and screws (1). Tighten the
screws securely.
5. Crimp new ferrules (3) onto the wire leads (4). Insert
the wire leads into the terminal block (2) and tighten
the screws (1).
6. See Figure 2. Install cover A using the washers (3),
lock washers (2), and screws (1). Tighten the
screws securely.
Replace the RTD
1. See Figure 3. Loosen the screws (8) on the terminal
block (7) and remove the RTD wires.
2. Remove the RTD (13) from the follower plate (8).
3. Apply heat compound to the new RTD (13). Insert
the RTD into the follower plate (8).
4. Crimp new ferrules (11) onto the wire leads (12).
Insert the wire leads into the terminal block (10) and
tighten the screws (9).
5. See Figure 2. Install cover B using the washers (6),
lock washers (5), and screws (4). Tighten the
screws securely.

Replace the Follower
Plate Adapter O-Rings
1. Remove the screws (1), lock washers (2), and
washers (3) securing the covers (4) to the
follower plate (5).
2. Remove the screws (7) and washers (8) securing
the hydraulic section (6) to the follower plate
adapter (10). Disconnect the heat band wiring (12) if
necessary to remove the hydraulic section and gain
access to the follower plate adapter (5).
3. Remove the follower plate adapter (10) from the
follower plate (5).
4. Remove the O-rings (9, 11) from the follower plate
adapter (10). Discard the O-rings.
5. Apply O-ring lubricant to the new O-rings (9, 11) and
install them onto the follower plate adapter (10).
6. Install the follower plate adapter (10) into the
follower plate (5).
7. Install the hydraulic section (6) onto the follower plate
adapter (10). Perform the following:
a. Install the washers (8) and screws (7) into the
hydraulic section.
b. Hand-tighten two opposing screws to secure
the hydraulic section to the follower plate
adapter (10). Hand-tighten the remaining screws
in the sequence shown.
c. After performing step 7b, simultaneously tighten
each screw 1/8 turn at a time in the sequence
shown to 34−40 N•m (25−30 ft-lb).
8. Connect the heat band wiring (12) if necessary.
Refer to the Rhino XD2H J-Box Module or
Harness Assembly Module instruction sheets for
wiring connections.
