1. ClickDevicesandthenRXDevices,andfindthestationyou
wanttoconfigure.Clickthearrownexttoonthe
DevicespageandselectReadoutConfiguration.
2. Settheconnectioninterval.Theminimumconnection
intervaldependsonyourcommunicationplan.
3. Ifyouwishtosetupasecondconnectioninterval,select
the“NightMode”checkbox.Selectwhennightmode
shouldbeginandendandthenentertheconnection
intervalyouwanttouseduringthatpartoftheday.
4. ClickSave.Thechangestotheconnectionintervalwilltake
placethenexttimethestationconnectstoHOBOlink.
YoucanalsoconnecttoHOBOlinkfromthestationatanytime,
regardlessoftheconnectionschedule.PresstheConnect
buttononthestationtoconnecttoHOBOlink.Unlessthe
stationisrunningonanightmodeconnectioninterval,the
normalconnectionschedulewillthenrestartafterthe
connectioniscomplete.Forexample,astationisconfiguredto
connecthourlyandthelastconnectiononitsregularschedule
occurredat10:05.IfyouusetheConnectbuttononthestation
toconnecttoHOBOlinkat10:15,thenextconnectionwillthen
beabout11:15basedontheone‐hourconnectioninterval.
Similarly,ifastationmissesaconnection,theconnection
schedulewillshiftdependingonthetimeofthenextsuccessful
connection.Whilethestationisusingasecond,nightmode
schedule,allconnectionswillfollowthatscheduleonly;any
extraconnectionswhilethestationisinnightmodewillnot
causeashiftintheconnectionschedule.
AlsonotethatthestationwillconnecttoHOBOlinkwhenthe
deviceispoweredupandwhenyoupresstheStartbutton.
Note:AllconnectionstoHOBOlinkcounttowardyour
communicationsplan.Ifthestationisnearingitslimitfor
monthlycelluse,minimizeunscheduledconnections.This
includesanyconnectionsforalarmsorchangesyoumaketo
theconnectionschedule.Youcanalsoincreasetheconnection
intervaltoreducethenumberofconnectionstoHOBOlinkper
day.GototheDeviceInformationsectiononyourstationpage
inHOBOlinktocheckthestatusofthemonthly
communicationsplanusageforthestation.
DeploymentGuidelines
Followtheguidelinesandstepsinthissectionfordeployingand
mountingthestation.
GuidelinesforDeployingtheStation
CheckthesignalstrengthontheLCDinthelocationyou
wishtodeploythestationtomakesureitwillbeableto
reliablyconnecttoHOBOlink.Thestationmayhave
difficultyconnectingifthereisonlyonebarilluminatedin
thesignalstrengthiconontheLCD.(Thesignalstrength
shownontheLCDisfromthelastconnection.)
Thestationmustbemountedatleastonefootfromall
sensorstoavoidinterferencefromthebuilt‐inradio
moduleandantennawiththemeasurementsmadebythe
sensors.
Makesurethestationremainsinaverticalpositiononceit
isplacedinitsdeploymentlocationtopreventpoolingof
wateronthecableentries.Inaddition,ifitismounted
horizontally,thebatterycouldbedamagedovertimein
RX2106modelsasitischargedandtheantennainboth
modelswillnothaveoptimalrange.
Ifpossible,avoidsitesimmediatelyadjacentto
radio/television/microwavetowersandequipment.Inrare
situations,strongelectromagneticinterferencemayresult
insensornetworkerrors.
Ifyouareusingawindspeed/directionsensororifthe
stationwillbeinstalledonarooforinalocationwith
exposuretolightning,useagroundingwire(CABLE‐
MICRO‐G).Agroundingwiremayalsoreducepotential
sensorerrorsthatcanresultfrominstallingnearother
radioorelectricalequipmentorantennas.SeeInstalling
theGroundingWire.Also,groundthetripodormastusing
appropriategrounding,suchastheGroundingKit(M‐
GKA).

Makesureallcablesandwiresarefastenedsecurelyand
routedthroughthecablechannel.Anyemptyholesinthe
cablechannelsneedtobefilledwiththeintegratedplugs
toensurethestationisweatherproofifinstalledoutdoors
ortoprotectitfromharshindoorenvironments(seethe
diagramsinInstallingtheCableChannelforhowtoinsert
theplugs).
WhenusingtheACadapter(P‐AC‐1)withthecable
channelinstalledintheRX2105station,routetheAC
adaptercablethroughthefar‐leftholeinthecable
channel.Tuckthecableintotheleftsideoftheholeand
usetheintegratedcablechannelpluginthesamehole
(seethediagramsinInstallingtheCableChannelforhow
toinserttheplug).Thefar‐leftholeisslightlybiggerthan
mostotherholesinthecablechannelandcan
accommodateboththeACadaptercableandthe
integratedplugatthesametime.
Donotstoreexcesssensorcablewirecoiledinsidethe
stationcaseorwithinonefootoutsidethecase.
Protectcablesandwireswithconduit.Exposedcablescan
bechewedbyrodents.
Makesurethetotalcablelengthforallinstalledsmart
sensorsdoesnotexceed100m(328ft).
Considerusingapadlocktorestrictaccesstothestation.
Withthestationdoorclosed,hookapadlockthroughone
ofthelatchesontherightsideofthedoorandlockit.
TheRX2106stationhasabuilt‐insolarpaneltorecharge
theNiMHbatterypack.Connectthesolarpanelcableto
keepthebatterycharged.Whenmountingthestation,
positionthesolarpanelinthedirectionwhereitwill
receivethemostsunlightthroughthedayandthroughout
eachseason.Itmaybenecessarytoperiodicallyadjustthe
stationpositionasthepathofsunlightchanges
throughouttheyearorifthetreeandleafgrowthalters
theamountofsunlightreachingthesolarpanel.
IfthelocationwhereyouwanttoinstalltheRX2106
stationdoesnotproduceenoughsunlighttochargethe
battery,useanexternalsolarpanel(SOLAR‐xW).
Disconnectthebuilt‐insolarpanelcableandtuckitinthe
stationdoor.Pluginanexternalsolarpanel.Lightlycoat
theportionofthecablethatwillbeplacedinthecable
