1 Preface
The "A200" Power Wheelchair is a quality product offering versatile use in everyday life. The following special
features are the characteristic of the "A200":
- Compact design
- Easy to disassemble for transport
- Easy servicing due to modular component group concept
- Easy access to all component groups
Before using the power wheelchair, please read these Instructions for Use and especially the Safety Instruc-
tions in section 5 thoroughly.
The design, as described in these Instructions for Use, is subject to technical alterations without notice.
2 Field of Application
The "A200" Power Wheelchair is designed solely for people who are unable to walk or who have a walking
impediment for control by the patient themself. The "A200" was specially designed for individuals, who are able
to independently move in a power wheelchair.
The "A200" is a power wheelchair for indoor use according to category A of EN 12184 standard.
With regard to the climate and splash-proof test the A200 also fulfills the requirements for outdoor use.
Thanks to its quick and easy adjustment possibilities for standard fittings and the modular design the "A200"
can be used by patients with walking impediments/inability due to:
- Palsies
- Paralysis
- Loss of limbs
- Defective / deformed limbs
- Joint contractures / defects
- Other diseases
Fitting Considerations:
- Body height and weight (maximal load is 100 kg)
- Physical and psychological limitations
- Age of the user
- Home conditions and environment
3 Liability
The manufacturer’s warranty applies only if the device has been used under the conditions and for the purpo-
ses described. The manufacturer recommends that the device be used and maintained according to the ins-
tructions for use.
The manufacturer is not responsible for damages caused by components and spare parts not approved by the
manufacturer. Repairs must be carried out exclusively by authorised dealers or by the manufacturer.
4 CE Conformity
This device meets the requirements of the 93/42/ EEC guidelines for medical devices. This device has been
classified as a class I device according to the classification criteria outlined in appendix IX of the guidelines.
The declaration of conformity was therefore created by Otto Bock with sole responsibility according to appen-
dix VII of the guidelines.
5 Service
Service and repairs on the A200 may only be carried out by authorised dealers.
Should any problems arise, please contact your wheelchair supplier.

Note:
Please ensure your A200 power wheelchair is checked and serviced at least ONCE a year by an
authorised dealer!
6 Safety Instructions
To avoid potentially dangerous situations such as tipping, you must become familiar with the power
wheelchair on level ground first.
When getting into or out of the power wheelchair, the wheelchair control must be switched off.
Do not use the footplates when getting into or out of the power wheelchair.
Get to know with assistance from another person how the power wheelchair reacts when the center
of gravity is shifted, i.e. when driving on slopes or inclines or clearing obstacles like steps and curbs.
Caution! When using the wheelchair on inclined surfaces ensure the automatic brakes are operating
correctly.
Use your wheelchair properly. For instance, do not drive against obstacles (including steps, curbs
or doors) without braking first. The critical obstacle height is 4 cm. Therefore, driving over steps or
curbs higher than 4 cm should not be attempted!
Be especially careful with any naked flames and cigarettes, as the back upholstery and seat cush-
ion could catch fire.
The maximum load for the A200 is 100 kg.
The driving characteristics of the A200 can be influenced by electromagnetic fields as emitted by
mobile phones or other radiating devices. For this reason, all mobile devices must be switched off
when driving.
It is also possible that the A200 itself generates electromagnetic fields that might cause interference
in other devices. Therefore, the control is to be switched off whenever you don‘t need it.
Ensure the tyres are in good order and condition and check that they are inflated to the correct tyre
pressure (printed on the sidewall of the tyre).
The A200 may be used within a temperature range from -25°C to +50°C.
The A200 is not suited for driving on very slippery (such as icy) surfaces or on very coarse-grained
ground such as gravel, pebbles, shingle or scree.
The A200 has been approved for driving on inclines and slopes of up to 12%.
When lifting platforms, ensure the anti-tipper does not become entangled with anything.
When using the wheelchair on lifting platforms or elevators the wheelchair control must be switched
off. The brake must not be released.

During battery charging, the control must be switched off.
For safety reasons, a pelvic belt can be attached, which is optionally available.
Never use a water hose or high-pressure cleaning apparatus for cleaning the wheelchair.
Be careful with your fingers during adjustment and assembly works (risk of injuries).
7 Transport and Storage
The A200 can be transported both as power wheelchair ready to start or in disassembled condition.
7.1 Transport in a Motor Vehicle
During transport the wheelchair must be fully secured by means of tension straps. The frame of the A200 has
four fixing eyelets for the attachment of straps. The temperature during transport and storage must be between
-25°C and +50°C. The wheelchair control must be switched off and the brake engaged during transport.
We recommend whereever and whenever possible, wheelchair users transfer to the seats installed in the motor
vehicle and use the corresponding vehicle restraint systems, because this is the only way to ensure optimal pro-
tection of the passengers in case of an accident. For the time being, Otto Bock has not yet released the A200
Power Wheelchair for use as a seat for transportion in motor vehicles; the release is currently being prepared,
however. You can receive information on the current state of our measures from your authorized dealer or on the
Otto Bock homepage www.ottobock.com.
7.2 Disassembling the A200 Power Wheelchair
To reduce the folding size for transport of the power wheelchair, it can be easily disassembled.
Please observe the following order for disassembly:
1. Remove the footrests.
2. Loosen the control panel mounting screw, remove the control panel to the rear and deposit it beside the
wheelchair.
3. Remove the side panels.
4. Fold the backrest down to the front (Fig. 1).

5. Release the seat lock by simultaneously pulling the release strap and folding the locking bar to the rear
(Fig. 2).
6. Remove the battery packs by releasing the Lock Lever (Fig. 6).
7. Separate the frame from the drive unit assembly.
Place your weight on the mounting of the anti-tipper above the wheels so the wheels touch the ground
(Fig. 3). Next, separate the frame from the drive unit assembly by slightly lifting the frame and pulling it to
the rear (Fig. 4).
8. Fold the seat base onto the frame.
To do this loosen the two quick release levers of the anterior seat brackets and fold the seat base down
whilst simultaneously lifting the brackets slightly and pushing them to the rear (Fig. 5).

To reduce the space needed, the two battery packs can be replaced into the drive unit assembly. To prevent
the battery packs from falling out of the drive unit assembly, the locking lever must be relocated (Fig. 6).
The control panel can either be laid onto the battery packs or put into the holder provided for this purpose.
Ensure the control panel remains switched off and that no cables are pinched (Fig. 6).

For re-assembly of the A200 power wheelchair the steps described above must be carried out in reverse order.

Delivery
Upon delivery by the dealer the A200 is ready for use. All settings have been made in accordance with the indi-
cations on the order form or are made directly on site by the dealer. Thus, the A200 is adapted to the personal
requirements of the individual.
Before using the wheelchair, all components of the standard equipment must be checked for completeness.
(Fig. 8).

The functions of the individual components must be checked according to the instructions in sections "Disas-
sembling the A200 Power Wheelchair", "Adjustment Possibilities", and "Putting into Operation". Should any
problems arise please refer to section "Status and Error Analysis". The tool kit, which is optionally available,
contains one set of Allen wrenches, sizes 3 mm, 4 mm, 5 mm, and 6 mm, and one open-end 13 mm spanner.
8 Adjustment Possibilities
The seat height and seat position of the A200 may only be adjusted or changed by the dealer.
All other settings such as: seat and back angle, armrest height and lower leg length, as well as the removal of
the footrests and armrest can be done by the user with the tool kit, which is optionally available.
Disassembly of the A200 power wheelchair can be easily done by an attendant. (Refer to section 6: Transport
and Storage)
8.1 Back
The back can be adjusted to four different angle positions by pulling the release strap which is located at the
base of the back. Once the back is in the desired position, release the strap to engage the locks.

8.2 Seat Angle Adjustment
The A200 offers seat angle settings in 3 different positions (0°, 3° and 6°). For setting the position, 2 quick re-
lease levers are used which are located at the front below the seat. To change the seat angle, loosen the two
quick release levers. Adjust the desired seat angle by simultaneously lifting the seat slightly and pushing the
brackets to the rear. Ensure that the brackets completely engage in the new position and tighten the quick re-
lease levers.
Note:
Ensure the quick release levers are snugly tightened after all seat angle adjustments!
Note:
During seat angle adjustments the user must not sit in the wheelchair.
8.3 Armrest
Remove the armrests by loosening the thumb screws at the lower end of the armrest and lifting the armrest up-
wards (Fig. 10).
Both armrests can be removed, however, only the side without the control panel can be removed directly. Be-
fore removing the armrest on the side with control panel, the control panel must be removed (Fig. 11).

The armrest height can be changed by loosening the set screw at the upper end of the armrest holder. Ensure
the set screw is retightened after making any adjustments.
8.4 Control Panel
8.4.1 Removing the Control Panel
The control panel can be removed by pulling it to the front.
8.4.2 Adaptation to the Arm Length
After loosening the attachment screws on the underside of the armrest, the control panel mounting can be ad-
justed
to the front or to the rear and thus adapted to the desired arm length (Fig. 12). Ensure all attachment screws
are fully tightly after adjustment.

8.5 Footrest

To remove the footrest, the calf band must be unhooked first. Now it is easy to release the footrest lock and
then swing away the footrest either inwards or outwards as shown in figure 13. When in this position, the foot-
rest can be pulled upwards and removed.
Note:
Take care not to get your fingers jammed when swinging the footrest away or back in place (Fig. 13).
For remounting, first relocate the footrest in the inner position and swing it back into position so the lock engag-
es. Finally, reattach the calf band to the holding device.
By loosening the screw at the rear of the hanger, the footrest height can be adjusted to suit the lower leg length
and compensate for the seat cushion height the user uses.
Note:
Ensure all screws are firmly retightened after making any adjustments.
9 Getting Into and Out of the Wheelchair
Thanks to the modular design of the A200, it is easy to get into and out of the wheelchair. The armrests and
footrests can be removed easily and thus allow easy access for transfer from the side or from the front.
9.1 From the Side
Move the A200 power wheelchair as close as possible to the seat. Remove the armrest on the side where the
user will get into the wheelchair (Fig. 10). The footrest can also be removed if necessary (Fig. 13). Now the user
can slide onto the wheelchair‘s seat. Use of a transfer board will make transfer easier.
9.2 From the Front
After flipping up the two footplates, the user can get into and out of the wheelchair from the front (Fig. 15).
