1.1 Electrical Safety
This instrument complies with the requirements of CEI/IEC 61010-1:2001-2 "Safety Requirements for
Electrical Equipment for Measurement, Control and Laboratory Use", NIST, and OSHA. Refrain from
using the instrument in a way not specified by OVAL, or protection of the instrument may be ruined.

1.3 Health and Safety Considerations
Note the following points in order to use our products safely without any health risks:
・Installation must be executed in compliance with safety requirements of this product, any associated
instruments, and local environment.
・Installation and use of this product and any associated instruments must be in compliance with the
relevant national and regional standards.
・Read the relevant sections of the manual before proceeding.
・Pay attention to the warning labels on containers and packages.
・Only appropriately trained personnel should perform installation, operation, maintenance, and servicing
by following the manual.
・When operating with high pressure and/or high temperature, normal safety precautions must be
performed in order to prevent accidents.

1. Loosen four screws on the front cover without removing them.
2. Detach the front cover.
3. Conrm that power indicator (LED) on the backplane is turned off.
4. If unable to see the screws , unlock the turn lock and turn the transmitter cartridge to align the
screw holes and screw heads.
5. Loosen three screws on the transmitter cartridge and lift the transmitter cartridge off the housing.

3.3 Cable Preparation (Separately Mounted Transmitter Only)
Cable for connection to the transmitter and sensor terminal box is included with the product. Preparation
of cable terminals must be performed by the customer, however.
1. Remove insulation of the cable as shown in Fig. 3.4 on page 10 and expose each core wire, then
cut the core wires to designated length.
2. Bundle screen wires D1/TFE (Orange) and D2 (Yellow) with outer drain wire by twisting, then cover
the bundle with a sleeve (Green/Yellow).
WARNING:
While power indicator (LED) is turned on, power is still supplied to the transmitter.
Isolate the power supply from the transmitter before proceeding further.

3.4 Sensor Cable Connection (Separately Mounted Transmitter)
Make the connection as instructed as follows:
1. Make sure to use the cable included with the product.
2. Bundle screen wires D1/TFE (Orange) and D2 (Yellow) with outer drain wire by
twisting, then cover the bundle with a sleeve (Green/Yellow).
3. For normal (not cathodically protected) system, connect drain wire to ground
screw.
4. Connect the drain wire to terminal SCR for cathodically protected system and
ensure that each signal wire is not touching the transmitter housing.
5. If a ground screw of the transmitter housing is unavailable, connect the drain
wire to terminal SCR for cathodically protected system.
6. After wiring, make sure that cable glands are securely tightened. Do not over-
tighten if using plastic cable glands in order to avoid damaging sealing
properties. Firmly tighten the cable glands by hand first, then use an appropriate
spanner or wrench to further tighten 1/2 to 3/4 turns.

3.5 Output Connection
1. To limit voltage fluctuation, inductive load needs to be suppressed.
2. Setting of output operation can be changed through parameter.
3. Pulse and alarm circuits are electrically separated from all other outputs. External
isolator is normally unnecessary.
CAUTION:
Make sure not to mistake polarity of output DO1 and DO2. Common (negative)
connection for these outputs is assigned to "COM".

1. Regular alarm/log output uses DO3 (terminal 61). DO1 (41) and DO2 (51) may also
be set as alarm/logic output if necessary. In such cases they will be unavailable
as double pulse output as shown in Figs. 3.6 and 3.7.
2. The bell and horn are shown as an example only. Any appropriate alarm device,
such as a lamp, siren, or buzzer can be used.

These output connection test points are for maintenance purpose only and not
normally used.
CAUTION:
1. Digital outputs of WaterMaster are NPN optocoupled transistors used as
switches.
2. Maximum allowable voltage of collector is 30V DC.
3. Maximum allowable current across both ends of transistor is 220mA.

3.6 Power Supply Connections
WARNING:
1. Electrical installation and earth grounding must be implemented in compliance
with relevant national and regional standards.
2. Power supply must be connected through suitable isolator and fuses must be
installed in compliance with relevant standards.
3. When changing fuses F1 or F2, isolate power supply device and wait 20 seconds
before opening the housing.
4. Replace fuses with appropriate parts. Refer to Fig. 3.13 (AC power) and Fig. 3.14 (DC
power) on page 16.

3.6.3 DIP Switches for Setting
Three DIP setting switches are installed on backplane board of the transmitter.
Following is the factory setting of these switches:
1. Separately mounted transmitter - All OFF

WARNING:
Make sure that the transmitter is isolated from power supply device before restoring
the front cover on.
3.7 Reassembling Cartridge and Front Cover
1. Cartridge is categorized by communication type. (Standard: HART communication)
2. The communication types of the cartridge and that of
transmitter's backplane board must be the same.
Pay extra attention if the communication type is special
kind such as PROFIBUS.
The cartridge label of PROFIBUS communication type
is shown on the right for reference.
3. To prevent damage to the cartridge during reassembling,
do not over-tighten the cartridge screws.

1. Check label on the side of the cartridge and conrm that the cartridge to be installed is of the
correct power supply device and communication bus type (Standard: HART communication).
- An AC cartridge has a black label on its side.
- A DC (and low voltage AC) cartridge has two red DC labels; one on its side, the other on its
backplane board.
2. Align three cartridge screws in line with housing pillars of the cartridge, then carefully tighten the
screws until the cartridge is xed in the appropriate position.
3. If necessary, turn the cartridge to desired position before reassembling the front cover. Refer to Fig.
3.2 on page 8 for detail.
4. Set DIP switch 1 (SW1) to "ON" (Read-only) as necessary. Refer to Fig. 3.15 on page 17.
5. Adjust the position of the transmitter front cover and housing, then carefully tighten the four screws
of the front cover.

4. START-UP AND OPERATION
4.1 Menu and Parameter Navigation
All system commands and selections can be executed by scrolling between menus using four keys under
the display.

4.2 Start-up Screens
At start-up, system status is indicated by the displayed screen type.
Following are four common start-up screen types:

A progress bar is displayed during system start-up to indicate the
duration of start-up process.
Upon completion of system start-up, one of the four following
screens will be displayed depending on the current condition.
NO SENSOR DETECTED
When a sensor cannot be detected during start-up, auto-
recovery routine runs to search the sensor. This routine will
continue to run until the sensor is detected or the routine is
manually stopped.
If [Ofine] is selected ( key is pressed) during auto-recovery,
the transmitter stops operating as flowmeter and makes a
transition to the following condition:
・Plant data and transmitter data: Congurable
・Sensor data: Not congurable
DUAL SENSOR MEMORY
The sensor memory is mounted on the transmitter backplane
board. If two kinds of sensor memories (sensor terminal box
and separately mounted transmitter) are detected for separately
mounted transmitter at start-up, a warning "DUAL SENSOR
MEMORY" will be displayed.
Turn OFF DIP switch SW3 to correct this state.
