PREFACE
This manual is prepared commonly for various models of ALTImass series. Check your model and verify
the contents of operations as well as input and output described in this manual. You are requested to
reference only the relevant items.
With ALTImass series, various kinds of settings are available easily by front-panel key operations or
communication. However, please read through this manual when you change settings by communication.
If any inquiry is required, contact your nearest OVAL sales office or service center. (When you inquire,
please specify the product name, model / Type No., and other pertinent information.)

1. Outline of Communication Functions
The FOUNDATION fieldbus-compliant ALTImass flowmeter is certified as a registered product of
FOUNDATION fieldbus H1 specification and capable of communicating with a FOUNDATION fieldbus-
compliant high-level host device (DCS, engineering tool, etc.).
Although this device normally operates as a Basic field device, it can function as the LAS (Link Active
Scheduler) in cases of a fault of the host device.
For the host device to communicate with this device, download DD (Device Description) from the URL
below and setup the host device in advance.

The terminals for analog output, pulse output, and status input/output installed on this
device do not function as FOUNDATION fieldbus-compliant ALTImass flowmeter.
This product is also FISCO (Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept) certified and can be used in IS segment
by combining with other FISCO certified devices.

3. Wiring
3.1 Wiring Configuration
Connections between this product, host device (DCS, engineering tools, etc.), and other field devices are
configured as shown below.

①Using a hex wrench, take off latch fitting
screw (M3 hex socket head).
②Using a flat tool, slowly turn the terminal
cover counterclockwise to loosen and then turn
further by hand. (Use care to avoid damaging
the finish.)
③Removing the terminal cover provides access to the cable entry and the power board holding
the power and output signal terminal blocks. The customer is required to furnish crimp style
terminals for power and output signal wiring connections.

3.2 Wiring Procedure
3.2.1 Cable Gland
Cable gland and applicable cable sizes vary depending on explosionproof specifications. For details,
refer to "10.5.2 About handling of the flameproof enclosure" in Instruction Manual L-740.
3.2.2 Power and Communication Signal Cable Connections (Common to Integral and Separate Types)
Terminals for wiring connections are found at the back of transmitter housing. Remove the terminal cover
and make wiring connections.

（1）Power supply (main power supply) lines and ground terminal
In addition to fieldbus power supply (for fieldbus communication segment), this device requires AC or
DC power supply for its main power.
Supply the appropriate power according to the power supply rating below.
For details, refer to "7.2 Power Supply Lines and Ground Terminal" in Instruction Manual L-740.

（2）Wiring communication signal cable
For fieldbus communication, power supply from fieldbus is required for fieldbus communication
segment and communication signal cables serve as power supply cables.
Supply the appropriate power according to the power supply rating below.

5. Explanation of Blocks
This product has following blocks:
・Resource block
・Transducer block
・AI (analog input) function blocks: 4 (measurement of volume flow, mass flow, density, and temperature)
・IT (integration) function blocks: 2 (volume flow and mass flow)
Following contents describe functions and handling of each block installed on the product.
5.1 Resource Block
This block contains information specific to fieldbus device such as device name, manufacturer name, and
serial number.
4. Switches on Communication Module (SIM_ENABLE Hard Switch)
DIP switches SW2 on communication module (FB-B board) are assigned with following functions:

5.2 Transducer Block
Transducer block is located between ALTImass sensors for measurement (flow (density) and
temperature) and function block. Transducer block contains parameters associated with sensors and

5.3 AI Function Block
AI function block calculates instantaneous flow rate output.
5.3.1 AI Function Block Configuration
（1）Parameter setting
1. CHANNEL
AI function block calculates based on measured values from transducer block. Select one from
VOLUME FLOW, MASS FLOW, DENSITY, or TEMPERATURE for CHANNEL (input selection)
parameter of AI function block.
2. L_TYPE
To output CHANNEL values without scaling, set "Direct" for L_TYPE parameter. To scale by converting
values to different range or unit, set "Indirect" instead.
3. XD_SCALE
If "Indirect" is set for L_TYPE parameter, configure sub-parameters of XD_SCALE such as EU_100,
EU_0, UNITS_INDEX(※), and DECIMAL according to scale of CHANNEL.
※: For UNITS_INDEX, set the unit of measurement value configured for CHANNEL. (For example, if
MASS FLOW is set for CHANNEL, set the unit that is configured for MASS_FLOW_UNITS of
transducer block for XD_SCALE.)
4. OUT_SCALE
To convert values to different range or unit by setting "Indirect" for L_TYPE parameter, configure sub-
parameters of OUT_SCALE such as EU_100, EU_0, UNITS_INDEX, and DECIMAL.
5. Other parameters
As necessary, set parameters associated with output of AI function block such as LOW_CUT,
PV_FTIME, etc.

This device has total display (synced with total value on the display of transmitter) in the
transducer block as well as the IT function block. However, these totalizing functions are
independent and total value of one does not always match the other.
Each block has a parameter for resetting and either can be operated by high-level host
device. (Refer to table below.)

5.4.1 IT Function Block Configuration
(1) Block configuration
IT function block is not capable of totalizing by itself. To use IT function block on this device, connect
(configure) output port OUT of AI function block to input port IN_1 (or IN_2) of IT function block.
(2) Parameter setting
1. OUT_RANGE
Set the range of output port OUT of AI function block (OUT_SCALE of AI function block) for sub-
parameters of OUT_RANGE such as EU_100, EU_0, UNITS_INDEX, and DECIMAL.
2. TIME_UNIT
Set the unit of time corresponding to input port IN_1 (unit of time set for output port OUT of AI function
block) for TIME_UNIT1 parameter. (To use input from IN_2, set TIME_UNIT2 likewise.)
3. INTEG_TYPE and INTEG_OPTS
Set parameters INTEG_TYPE and INTEG_OPTS depending on the purpose of IT function block.
(3) Total reset
Set "Reset" for OP_CMD_INT parameter of IT function block.

This parameter reflects the error status associated with the
hardware or software components associated with a block. It is a
bit string so that multiple errors may be shown.
