Inspection,!care!&!maintenance!guide!
!!
This!guide!relates!to!the!Palm!Pro!Range!of!throwlines,!including!15,!20!and!25!meter!bags!
!!
●!On!purchasing!your!throwline,!and!before!first!use,!take!the!rope!out!of!the!bag!and!check!the!
line!is!tied!into!the!bag!with!a!suitable!knot,!for!example!a!figure!of!eight!
!
●!When!repacking,!stuff!the!rope!in!the!bag!so!it!deploys!cleanly,!without!snags,!ensuring!the!line!
does!not!contain!any!knots!along!its!length!
Inspection!
!
Before!every!use!it!is!important!that!the!user,!or!potential!user,!of!any!throwline!checks!it!is!in!full!
working!order!in!case!they!are!required!to!deploy!the!bag!at!an!incident.!
!
●!Empty!the!bag!and!check!the!rope!is!tied!into!the!inside!of!the!bag!correctly.!
●!Check!the!rope!as!follows:!
○!Cuts!in!the!rope!
○!Snags!of!the!outer!sheath!of!the!rope!
○!Check!if!the!white!core!is!visible!at!any!point!along!the!length!of!the!line!
○!Check!for!contamination,!i.e.!fuel!either!visibly!or!a!strong!smell.!
○!Check!the!end!of!the!line!is!not!frayed!or!furred!up.!
●!Check!the!bag!as!follows:!
○!The!bag!is!not!frayed,!spit,!snagged!or!torn.!
○!Check!the!yellow!attachment!point!is!intact!inside!and!out,!no!frays,!tears!or!snags.!
○!Check!for!contamination,!i.e.!fuel!either!visibly!or!a!strong!smell.!
○!Check!the!draw!cord!is!in!full!working!order!and!the!closure!is!working!and!stays!closed.!
●!Repack!the!rope!and!check!the!line!for!any!knots,!!removing!if!found!
!
These!checks!should!take!less!than!two!minutes.!If!all!is!in!order!repack!the!bag!correctly!and!close!
securely!Mthe!throwline!is!ready!to!use.!

!After!use!
!!
When!returning!the!bag!after!use,!please!go!through!the!inspection!process.!If!there!are!any!issues!the!
lines!should!be!removed!from!use.!
!
●!If!the!bags!have!been!used,!they!should!be!washed!
○!Use!warm!fresh!water!to!remove!any!grit!or!contaminants!from!the!line!
○!Remove!the!rope!from!the!bag!and!dunk!the!bag!and!rope!in!a!container!of!warm!fresh!
water!
●!When!washed!M!dry,!repack!and!store!
!
Storage/Drying!
!!
When!storing,!the!bag!and!rope!should!be!dry!with!rope!packed!ready!for!deployment!and!the!closure!
securely!shut.!If!wet!it!is!important!that!both!the!bag!and!line!are!dried!before!storing.!
!
●!To!dry,!hang!the!bag!to!drip!dry!with!the!rope!out!of!bag!in!loose!coils!with!no!knots!along!its!
length!
○!The!rope!can!be!daisy!chained!when!drying,!however!remove!all!daisy!chains!before!
repacking!for!storage!or!use!
●!Drying!!in!a!vented!drying!room!is!acceptable,!however!do!not!force!dry!the!rope!or!bag!directly!
on!a!radiator!or!similar!only!hang!freely!to!dry!
●!Do!not!leave!the!rope!loose!on!the!floor,!to!avoid!getting!crushed.!Store!bag!hanging!or!on!a!
shelf!away!from!potential!contaminants!like!fuel!
!
!When!Bag!and!Rope!are!dry,!repack!to!store.!
!!
Monthly!inspections!
!!
If!the!bags!are!stored!with!other!equipment!and!not!in!a!personal!kit!bag,!it!is!advisable!that!a!stores/!
equipment!manager!carries!out!a!monthly!inspection!check.!!
!
●!We!recommend!a!record!is!kept!of!which!bags!have!been!used!and!checked.!!
●!It!is!advisable!to!allocate!each!bag!in!each!store!a!unique!number.!This!can!be!done!by!writing!in!
permanent!marker!in!small!numbers!on!the!inside!of!the!neck!of!the!bag,!not!on!the!rope!
●!Any!bags!failing!the!inspections!should!be!removed!from!use!and!advice!should!be!taken!from!a!
Palm!representative!

Removal!from!service!
!!
If!during!any!inspection!process,!you!find!an!issue,!remove!from!use!and!seek!advice!from!your!Palm!
representative!on!repairs!or!retirement.!
!
Lifespan!of!Throwlines!
!!
●!All!Palm!throwlines!come!with!a!one!year!warranty!
●!If!!cleaned,!dried!and!stored!correctly,!you!may!expect!a!lifespan!of!between!5!to!10!years!
●!We!suggest!that!whatever!the!condition!of!the!line!or!bag!that!all!throwlines!are!retired!after!a!
maximum!of!10!years!from!date!of!purchase!
