This manual uses two safety flags to indicate different levels of danger.

than the maximum of the characteristics and performance that are assure in these specifications.
-Do not dismantle or remodel the product. It could lead to abnormal exothermic heat or
smoke generation.
-Do not touch the terminal while turning on electricity. It could lead to an electric shock..
-Use the external devices to function the emergency stop and interlock circuit.
-Connect the wires or connectors securely.
The loose connection might cause abnormal exothermic heat or smoke generation
-Do not allow foreign matters such as liquid, flammable materials, metals to go into the
inside of the product. It might cause exothermic heat or smoke generation.
-Do not undertake construction (such as connection and disconnection) while the power
supply is on.

1-1.Features
• Easy wiring
The FP3/FP5 W Type(Wire) Link Units are connected with a twisted pair cable, which makes the initial wiring
and wiring maintenance easy. Data communication is easily performed between Programmable Controllers.
• High speed, long distance transmission
Data can be transmitted at the speed of 500k bps between stations which can be a maximum of 800 m /
2,624.672 ft. apart.
• A maximum of 3 W Type(Wire) Link Units can be installed on a singleMaster Backplane.
Each CPU can control a maximum of 3 P/W Link units*. If you install other types of P/W Link units*, such as a
P Type(Optical) Link Unit, a C.C.U.(Computer Communication Unit) or a C-NET Link Unit, the total number of
P/W Link units must be 3 or less.
• In the W Type(Wire) Link System, the following 3 useful functions are available :
<P/W PC Link function>
A P/W PC Link is formally called a "P Type(Optical)/W Type(Wire) Programmable Controller Link".
In the P/W PC Link, data are easily exchanged between Programmable Controllers using link relays(L) and
link data registers(LD).
A maximum of 16 stations in a network can be set in PC Link Mode to be included in the P/W Link System.
A maximum of 2 W Type(Wire) Link Units can be used as stations in PC Link Mode in a single CPU.
If you install units with a P/W PC Link function, such as a P Type(Optical) Link Unit, the total number of
units in PC Link Mode must not be more than 2 units in one CPU.
<Data Transfer function>
Data can be transferred between Programmable Controllers using F145(SEND) / P145(PSEND) and
F146(RECV) / P146(PRECV) instructions. This function is available to all of the stations (Max. 32 stations)
in a network.
<Remote Programming function>
Programming, system register setting and data read out of remotely located Programmable Controller can be
controlled from any Programmable Controller located close to you. This function is available to all of the sta-
tions(Max. 32 stations) in a network.

In the FP Series Programmable Controller System, the W Type(Wire) Link System is one of the P/W Link system
available. Here, we wil describe the system configurations of the W Type(Wire) Link System.
The FP3/FP5 W Type(Wire) Link Units can be installed on the Master Backplane used in the FP3/FP5
Programmable Controllers.
The FP3/FP5 W Type(Wire) Link Units are connected with a twisted pair cable running between Programmable
Controllers.

•Max. cable length : 800 m/2,624.672 ft. per network
•Max. number of network station : 32 stations per network
•Max. number of P/W Link units : 3 P/W Link units per CPU [any combination of W type(Wire) Link
Units, P type(Optical) Link Units, C.C.U. (Computer

Link System
The W Type(Wire) Link System provides three kinds of communication functions between FP3s and FP5s as
follows :
A P/W PC Link function(optional function)
A Data Transfer function
A Remote Programming function
1. The P/W PC Link Function
Data can be shared among FP3s and FP5s in a network by using 1,024 link relays(L) and 128 link data
registers(LD).
This function can be performed between W Type(Wire) Link Units set in PC Link Mode.
(In the same network, both of FP3s and FP5s can be installed.)
Notes :
The figure above shows an example of a P/W PC Link under the following conditions :
•The operating status in the "Station 01" will change according to the ON/OFF state of the link relay L0 in the
CPU controlling "Station 02".
•When data stored in WX1 is written to link data register LD1 at "Station 02", "Station 01" reads the data stored in
LD1 and writes it in WY1 of its CPU.
Thus data transfer from WX1 in "Station 02" to WY1 in "Station 01" can be easily performed by using link data
register LD1.

•A maximum of 16 stations in a single network can be set in PC Link Mode.
•A maximum of 2 W type(Wire) Link Units installed on a single CPU can be set in PC Link Mode .
If other units with a P/W PC Link function, such as a P Type(Optical) Link Unit, are installed together,
the total number of units with a P/W PC Link function must not exceed 2 units for each CPU.

2. The Data Transfer Function
Data can be received from and sent to another Programmable Controller in the same network by using the
F145(SEND)/P145(PSEND) and F146(RECV)/P146(PRECV) instructions.
A maximum of 16 words( one word = 16 bits) can be transferred at a time.
This function can be performed between all of the stations(Max. 32) in the same network.
Notes :
[Example 1]
"Station 01" sends the data, stored in the data registers starting with DT0, to the data registers starting with DT0
of "Station 02".
[Example 2]
"Station 02" receives the data, stored in the data registers starting with DT10 of "Station 01", and stores the data
in the data registers starting with DT20 of the "Station 02".

3. The Remote Programming Function
You can create programs and assign system registers for a remote FP3/FP5 from any other FP3/FP5 in the same
network. With this function, programs can easily be modified in the field, even when the Programmable Controller
built inside of process controller.

If other P/W Link units are installed together in a single CPU, the total number of P/W Link units
must not exceed 3 units.
The P/W Link units are : P Type(Optical) Link Unit, W Type(Wire) Link Unit,
C.C.U.(Computer Communication Unit), C-NET Link Unit.
