What is MP3/WMA?
MP3 (MPEG Audio Layer-3) and WMA (Windows MediaTM Audio) are the ompression formats of digital audio. The former
is developed by MPEG (Motion Pi ture Experts Group), and the latter is developed by Mi rosoft Corporation. Using these
ompression formats, you an re ord the ontents of about 10 musi CDs on a single CD media (This figures refer to data
re orded on a 650MB CD-R or CD-RW at a fixed bit rate of 128 kbps and a sampling frequen y of 44.1 kHz).

¡MP3/WMA en oding and writing software is not supplied with this unit.
¡CD writing software is not supplied with this unit.
Points to remember when makin MP3/WMA files
Common
¡High bit rate and high sampling frequen y are re om-
mended for high quality sounds.
¡Sele ting VBR (Variable Bit Rate) is not re ommended
be ause playing time is not displayed properly and sound
may be skipped.
¡The playba k sound quality differs depending on the
en oding ir umstan es. For details, refer to the user
manual of your own en oding software and writing soft-
ware.
MP3
¡It is re ommended to set the bit rate to “128 kbps or
more” and “fixed”.
WMA
¡It is re ommended to set the bit rate to “64 kbps or
more” and “fixed”.
¡Do not set the opy prote t attribute on the WMA file to
enable this unit to play ba k.

Recordin MP3/WMA files on a CD-media
¡You are recommended to minimize the chances of mak-
ing a disc that contains both CD-DA files and MP3/WMA
files.
¡If CD-DA files are on the same disc as MP3 or WMA
files, the songs may not play in the intended order, or
some songs may not play at all.
¡When storing MP3 data and WMA data on the same
disc, use different folders for each data.
¡Do not re ord files other than MP3/WMA files and unne -
essary folder on a dis .
¡The name of MP3/WMA file should be added by rules as
shown in the following des riptions and also omply with
the rules of ea h file system.
¡You may en ounter trouble in playing MP3/WMA files or
displaying the information of MP3/WMA files re orded
with ertain writing software or CD re orders.
¡The file extension “mp3”or “wma”should be assigned to
ea h file depending on the file format.
¡This unit does not have the play list fun tion.
¡Although Multi-session re ording is supported, the use of
