Important
Read these instructions for use carefully before using the appliance and
save them for future reference.
◗Check if the voltage indicated on the bottom or back of the
charger corresponds to the local mains voltage before you
connect the appliance.
◗Keep the charger away from water! Do not place or store it over
or near water contained in a bathtub, washbasin, sink etc. Do not
immerse the charger in water or any other liquid.
◗Never use the charger if it is damaged or if the cord or plug is
damaged. If the charger, the cord or the plug is damaged, always
have the charger replaced by one of the original type in order to
avoid a hazard.
◗Do not use the toothbrush in the bath or shower.
◗Only use the charger supplied.
◗Close supervision is necessary when this product is used by or on
children or the disabled.
◗If you have had oral or gum surgery in the previous 2 months,
consult your dentist before using the toothbrush.
◗Consult your dentist if excessive bleeding occurs after using this
toothbrush or if bleeding continues to occur after 1 week of use.
◗The Sonicare toothbrush complies with the safety standards for
electromagnetic devices. If you have a pacemaker or other
implanted device, consult your doctor or the manufacturer of the
implanted device if you have any questions about using the
Sonicare.
◗Do not use other brush heads than the ones recommended by
the manufacturer.
◗Replace the brush head every 6 months or sooner if signs of wear
appear, such as crushed or bent bristles.
◗This appliance has only been designed for cleaning teeth, gums and
tongue. Do not use it for any other purpose.
◗The Sonicare toothbrush is a personal care device and it is not
intended for use on multiple patients in a dental practice or
institution.

Preparing for use
Attaching the brush head
C1Place the brush head onto the handle by sliding the ribs on the
inside of the nut into the grooves in the top of the handle.
C2Screw the brush head nut clockwise until it is firmly tightened.
If the brush head rattles during use, tighten the nut further.
3Remove the travel cap from the brush head before you start
brushing.
C4Store excess cord by winding it round the cord storage hooks
in the bottom of the charger.
Charging
Charge the Sonicare for at least 24 hours during the first few days of
use.
We advise you to keep the Sonicare in the plugged-in charger when
not in use to maintain a full battery charge.When the battery is empty,
it takes at least 24 hours to fully charge the Sonicare.
C1To charge the Sonicare, place the handle properly in the
charger with the on/off button facing towards the front of the
charger.
Make sure the bottom of the handle sits back securely in the charger,
making complete contact.
C◗When the handle is placed incorrectly in the charger, the charging
light may still go on, but charging will not take place.

The handles of other Sonicare models do not fit in this charger and will
therefore not charge effectively. Do not attempt to force a handle into
this charger, as this will cause damage.
Using the appliance
Useful tips
◗We advise you to use gel toothpastes to ensure optimal
performance.
◗Place the brush head in your mouth before switching the
appliance on and keep your mouth closed during brushing to
prevent splattering of toothpaste.
◗You may experience a slight tickling or tingling sensation when
using an electronic toothbrush such as the Sonicare for the first
time.As you become accustomed to brushing with the Sonicare,
this sensitivity will diminish.
◗A fully charged Sonicare allows you brush your teeth for 2
minutes twice a day for approximately 2 weeks without charging,
making it easy to travel without the charger.
Brushing technique
C1Before switching the Sonicare on, place the bristles of the
brush head on your gumline at a 45-degree angle.
2Hold the handle with a light grip, switch the Sonicare on and
gently move the bristles in a small circular motion so that the
longer bristles reach between your teeth.After a few seconds,
pass the bristles to the next section. Continue this routine
throughout the 2-minute brushing cycle.
3To maximise the effectiveness of the Sonicare toothbrush, use
light pressure and let the Sonicare do the brushing for you.
Do not scrub.
C4To make sure you brush evenly throughout the mouth, divide
your mouth into 4 sections: outside upper teeth, inside upper
teeth, outside lower teeth and inside lower teeth. Begin
brushing the first section (outside upper teeth) and brush for
30 seconds before moving to the next section (inside upper
teeth). Continue brushing the other two sections for 30
seconds each until you have completed the 2-minute brushing
cycle.
5After the 2-minute brushing cycle, you can switch the Sonicare
briefly back on again to brush the chewing surfaces of your
teeth.
Press the on/off button to switch the Sonicare on or off as needed.

To clean your mouth more completely, you can also brush your tongue
with the toothbrush switched on or off, as you prefer.
Tips for specific oral care needs
Stain removal
◗For even better stain removal, dedicate extra brushing time to
areas where excess staining occurs.
Braces
C◗Place the brush head at a 45-degree angle between the brackets
and the gumline. Using light pressure, gently move the bristles in a
small circular motion so the longer bristles reach between your
teeth for 2 seconds.Then gently roll the brush handle so the
bristles clean the bracket and the rest of the tooth before you
pass the bristles to the next tooth. Continue this until you have
brushed all your teeth. Please note that brush heads will wear out
sooner when used on braces.
Dental restorations
◗Use the Sonicare on dental restorations (such as implants, caps,
crowns, bridges and fillings) as you would on your natural tooth
surfaces to reduce plaque build-up and improve gum health.
Work the bristles around all the areas of the restoration for
thorough cleaning.
Periodontal pockets
◗If your dentist has indicated that you have periodontal pockets
(deep pockets where plaque bacteria collect), you can improve
your gum health by dedicating extra brushing time to the problem
areas after having completed your regular 2-minute brushing
cycle.
Features
Easy-start\
◗All Sonicare models come with the Easy-start feature activated,
which helps you get used to brushing with the Sonicare.
◗The brushing power will gently increase to full power over the
first 12 brushings.
◗The Easy-start feature is active if you hear 2 beeps immediately
after switching the Sonicare on. Once the Sonicare has reached
optimal brushing power (after the 12th brushing), you will no
longer hear the 2 beeps at the beginning of each brushing cycle.
BNote: each of the first 12 brushings must be at least 1 minute long to
properly move through the Easy-start ramp-up cycle.

To deactivate or activate the Easy-start feature:
1Attach the brush head to the handle.
2Place the handle in the plugged-in charger.
3To deactivate the Easy-start feature, press and hold the on/off
button for 5 seconds.You will hear 1 beep to indicate that the
Easy-start feature has been deactivated.
4To activate the Easy-start feature, press and hold the on/off
button for 5 seconds.You will hear 2 beeps to indicate that the
Easy-start feature has been activated.
Using the Easy-start feature beyond the initial ramp-up period is not
recommended and reduces the effectiveness of the Sonicare
toothbrush in removing plaque.
The Easy-start feature should be deactivated and the handle fully
charged when the Sonicare is used in clinical trials.
Smartimer\
◗The Smartimer automatically sets the brushing time to the
2 minutes recommended by dentists and dental hygienists.
◗After 2 minutes the Smartimer automatically switches the
toothbrush off.
◗If you wish to stop brushing briefly during a 2-minute brushing
cycle, press the on/off button.When you press the on/off button
again, the Smartimer will resume the brushing cycle at the point
where you stopped.
◗The Smartimer will automatically reset to the beginning of a
2-minute cycle if:
- you stop brushing for 30 seconds or longer;
- you put the handle in the charger.
Quadpacer\(specific models only)
C◗The Quadpacer 30-second interval timer ensures that you brush
all sections of your mouth evenly and thoroughly.At 30, 60 and
90 seconds, you will hear a short beep and a pause in brushing
action.This is your signal to start brushing the next section of
your mouth.
Battery charge indication (specific models only).
◗When the battery is running low, you hear 5 beeps after the
2-minute brushing cycle and the charging light blinks rapidly.
When you hear the low charge indication, there are 3 or fewer
2-minute brushings left.

C1Place the handle in the charger (with the on/off button facing
towards the front of the charger) to recharge the appliance.
◗The charging light blinks slowly when the handle is in the charger
base to indicate that charging is in progress.
◗When the Sonicare is fully charged, the charging light burns
continuously to indicate that the Sonicare is ready for use.
Keep the Sonicare in the charger when you are not using it to maintain
a full battery charge.
Cleaning
Regular cleaning guarantees the best performance and a long life for
your appliance.
C1Rinse the brush head and bristles after each brushing.
C2Clean the brush head at least once a week, including under the
removable nut.
To remove the nut:
C◗Gently press on the rubber seal with your thumbs.
Avoid using sharp objects to push on the seal as this may cause
damage.
C◗Pull the nut up over the top of the brush head.
To reattach the nut, slip the nut over the brush head shaft and pull it
down until it snaps home.

C3Clean and dry the handle periodically.
4Clean the charger periodically.
Unplug the charger before cleaning it.After cleaning the charger, dry it
completely before putting the plug back into the wall socket.
We advise you to use a mild cleaning agent, water and a moist cloth to
clean the Sonicare.
Replacement
Brush head
Replace the brush head every 6 months to achieve optimal results.
Only use Sonicare replacement brush heads for this model.
Environment
The built-in rechargeable batteries contain substances that may pollute
the environment.
Remove the batteries when you discard the appliance. Do not throw
the batteries away with the normal household waste, but hand them in
at an official collection point.You can also take the appliance to a Philips
service centre, which will remove the batteries for you and will dispose
of them in an environmentally safe way.
Removing the batteries
Please note that this process is not reversible.
To remove the batteries yourself, you will need a flat-head (standard)
screwdriver and a small towel.
1Deplete the battery of any charge by removing the handle from
the charger, turning the Sonicare on and allowing it to run until
it stops. Repeat this step until the Sonicare will no longer
operate.
C2Insert a screwdriver into one of the slots located near the top
part of the handle, push the screwdriver blade into the handle
as far as it will go and twist the blade.The housing will begin to
split.
C3Remove the screwdriver and repeat the above instruction
using the other slot located on the opposite side of the handle.
Twist the blade and the housing will continue to split.

C4Now insert the screwdriver into the middle slot located on the
top front part of the handle as shown and push the blade in as
far as it will go.
C5Now use the screwdriver as a lever to pry the 2 handle
sections apart.
C6Pull the 2 handle sections completely apart.
C7Insert the screwdriver underneath the electronic circuit board
in multiple places.
C8Twist and pry the electronic circuit board loose until it is
completely separated from the handle.

C9Pry the batteries loose by inserting the screwdriver on the
sides of the two batteries in the locations shown in the figure.
C10 Use a twisting and prying motion to break the glue bond
around the batteries.The 2 batteries are joined together with
glue and will be lifted out together.

Solution
Recharge the Sonicare overnight. Make sure the socket is live when you
recharge the appliance.The electricity supply to sockets in mirror
cabinets over washbasins or shaver sockets in bathrooms may be cut
off when the light is turned off.
Make sure the brush head is attached correctly.
You may experience a slight tickling/tingling sensation when using the
Sonicare for the first time. As you become accustomed to brushing
with the Sonicare, this sensation will diminish.
The Sonicare should produce a gentle hum during operation.Tightening
the brush head nut can eliminate excessive rattling. If the rattling does
not stop, you may need to replace the brush head. Make sure you
remove the travel cap before switching the appliance on.
You can avoid this by keeping the brush head properly oriented, with
the brush head placed on the gumline at an angle of 30 to 40 degrees.
You may need to recharge the Sonicare.
The Easy-start feature may be active and needs to be deactivated (see
chapter 'Using the appliance').
You may need to clean the brush head.
You may need to replace the brush head.
Clean the handle, brush head and charger thoroughly (see chapter

Vorbereitungen
Aufstecken des Bürstenkopfs
C1Setzen Sie den Bürstenkopf auf das Handstück, indem Sie die
Schienen in der Mutter in die Rillen oben am Handstück
schieben.
C2Drehen Sie die Bürstenkopfmutter im Uhrzeigersinn fest.
Rattert der Bürstenkopf beim Gebrauch, ziehen Sie die Mutter
fester an.
3Nehmen Sie vor dem Zähneputzen die Reisekappe vom
Bürstenkopf.
C4Überschüssiges Kabel können Sie um die Kabelaufwicklung im
Boden des Ladegeräts legen.
Laden
Laden Sie die Sonicare während der ersten Tage mindestens
24 Stunden lang auf.
Wir empfehlen die Aufbewahrung der Sonicare im Ladegerät, damit
jederzeit die volle Akkuladung verfügbar ist. Das vollständige Aufladen
der leeren Sonicare-Akkus nimmt mindestens 24 Stunden in Anspruch.

C1Zum Laden der Sonicare stellen Sie das Handstück mit nach
vorn zeigendem Ein-/Ausschalter in das Ladegerät.
Die Unterseite des Handstücks muss fest im Ladegerät sitzen, damit
der Kontakt gewährleistet ist.
C◗Wird das Handstück nicht richtig in das Ladegerät gestellt,
leuchtet zwar die Ladekontrolllampe, aber die Akkus werden nicht
geladen.
Handstücke anderer Sonicare-Modelle passen nicht in dieses Ladegerät
und werden darin nicht richtig geladen. Drücken Sie ein solches
Handstück nicht mit Gewalt in dieses Ladegerät, um Beschädigungen zu
vermeiden.
Benutzung des Geräts
Nützliche Tipps
◗Das Gerät erzielt die besten Ergebnisse, wenn Sie ein Zahnputzgel
verwenden.
◗Führen Sie den Bürstenkopf in den Mund, bevor Sie Ihre Sonicare
einschalten; halten Sie den Mund während des Putzens
geschlossen, damit die Zahnpasta nicht spritzt.
◗Unter Umständen tritt bei der ersten Benutzung einer
elektrischen Zahnbürste wie der Sonicare ein Kitzeln oder
Kribbeln auf. Sobald Sie sich an die Sonicare gewöhnt haben, lässt
diese Empfindung nach.
◗Eine vollständige Ladung der Sonicare reicht bei normalem
Gebrauch ca. 2 Wochen (zweimal täglich 2 Minuten putzen). Sie
können die Sonicare also problemlos ohne Ladegerät mit auf
Reisen nehmen.
Zahnputztechnik
C1Platzieren Sie die Borsten in einemWinkel von 45 Grad zum
Zahnfleischsaum, bevor Sie die Sonicare einschalten.
2Halten Sie das Handstück locker in der Hand, schalten Sie das
Gerät ein, und führen Sie die Borsten sanft in kleinen
kreisenden Bewegungen so über die Zähne, dass die längeren
Borsten in die Zahnzwischenräume gelangen können. Führen
Sie die Bürste nach einigen Sekunden zum nächsten Abschnitt.
Fahren Sie auf dieseWeise 2 Minuten lang fort.

3Die Sonicare arbeitet am wirksamsten, wenn Sie mit nur
leichtem Druck putzen und der Zahnbürste die eigentliche
Arbeit überlassen. Schrubben Sie Ihre Zähne nicht.
C4Damit alle Zähne gleichmäßig geputzt werden, teilen Sie Ihren
Mund in 4 Abschnitte auf: Oberkiefer außen, Oberkiefer innen,
Unterkiefer außen, Unterkiefer innen. Beginnen Sie mit
Abschnitt 1 (Außenseite Oberkiefer) und putzen Sie 30
Sekunden lang.Verfahren Sie mit den drei anderen Abschnitten
ebenso, bis Sie nach 2 Minuten alle Zähne geputzt haben.
5Nach Ablauf der 2 Minuten können Sie die Sonicare wieder für
einen Moment einschalten, um die Kauflächen der Zähne zu
putzen.
Betätigen Sie den Ein-/Ausschalter, um die Zahnbürste nach Bedarf ein-
oder auszuschalten. Zur gründlichen Mundpflege empfiehlt es sich, auch
die Zunge zu bürsten - nach Belieben mit eingeschaltetem oder
ausgeschaltetem Gerät.
Tipps zu speziellen Zahnpflegeanforderungen
Verfärbungen
◗Putzen Sie stark verfärbte Bereiche einige Sekunden länger, um die
Behebung derVerfärbungen zu unterstützen.
Zahnspangen
C◗Die Bürste sollte in einem Winkel von 45 Grad zwischen
Zahnfleischsaum und Zahnspange platziert werden. Bewegen Sie
die Borsten dann unter leichtem Druck in kleinen Kreisen so, dass
die längeren Borsten 2 Sekunden lang zwischen die Zähne
gelangen. Drehen Sie dann das Handstück, damit die Borsten die
Zahnspange und den Rest des Zahns reinigen, bevor Sie mit dem
nächsten Zahn fortfahren.Wiederholen Sie dies, bis alle Zähne
gereinigt sind. Beachten Sie bitte, dass die Bürstenköpfe bei
Anwendung mit Zahnspangen schneller abnutzen.
Zahnersatz
◗Benutzen Sie die Sonicare auf Zahnersatz (z. B. Implantate, Inlays,
Kronen, Brücken und Füllungen) wie auf normalen Zähnen, um die
Plaque-Bildung zu reduzieren und die Gesundheit des
Zahnfleisches zu verbessern. Reinigen Sie mit den Borsten alle
Seiten des Zahnersatzes gründlich.
Parodontosetaschen
◗Möglicherweise hat Ihr Zahnarzt Parodontosetaschen
diagnostiziert. In diesen tiefen Zahnfleischtaschen können sich
Plaquebakterien ansammeln. Bürsten Sie die betroffenen Stellen
nach Ablauf der 2 Minuten etwas länger, um die Gesundheit des
Zahnfleisches zu verbessern.

Easy-start\
◗Alle Sonicare-Modelle werden mit aktivierter Easy-start-Funktion
geliefert, damit Sie sich leichter an das Putzen mit der Sonicare
gewöhnen.
◗Die Putzleistung wird im Laufe der ersten 12 Anwendungen nach
und nach zur vollen Leistung gesteigert.
◗Die Easy-start-Funktion ist aktiv, wenn Sie unmittelbar nach dem
Einschalten der Sonicare 2 Signaltöne hören. Sobald die volle
Putzleistung erreicht ist (nach dem 12. Putzen), hören Sie diese
Signaltöne beim Einschalten des Geräts nicht mehr.
BHinweis: Jeder der ersten 12 Putzzyklen muss mindestens eine Minute
dauern, damit der jeweilige Zyklus von der Easy-start-Funktion
berücksichtigt wird.
So aktivieren bzw. deaktivieren Sie die Funktion Easy-start:
1Bringen Sie den Bürstenkopf am Handstück an.
2Stellen Sie das Handstück in das angeschlossene Ladegerät.
3Zum Deaktivieren der Easy-start-Funktion halten Sie den Ein-
/Ausschalter 5 Sekunden lang gedrückt. Ein Tonsignal meldet,
dass Easy-start deaktiviert wurde.
4Zum Aktivieren der Easy-start-Funktion halten Sie den Ein-
/Ausschalter 5 Sekunden lang gedrückt. Zwei Tonsignale
bestätigen, dass Easy-start aktiviert wurde.
Die Aktivierung der Easy-start-Funktion nach der Gewöhnungsphase
wird nicht empfohlen, da sie die Effizienz der Plaque-Entfernung mit der
Sonicare reduziert.
Bei klinischenVergleichsstudien mit der Sonicare sollte die Easy-start
Funktion deaktiviert und das Gerät voll geladen sein.
Smartimer\
◗Der Smartimer sorgt automatisch für die Einhaltung der von
Zahnmedizinern empfohlenen Putzdauer von 2 Minuten.
◗Nach 2 Minuten schaltet der Smartimer die Zahnbürste
automatisch aus.
◗Sie können den 2-Minuten-Zyklus kurz unterbrechen, indem Sie
den Ein-/Ausschalter drücken.Wenn Sie den Ein-/Ausschalter
nochmals drücken, wird die Zählung des Timers fortgesetzt.
◗Der Smartimer wird automatisch wieder auf Null gestellt, wenn
Sie
- das Putzen länger als 30 Sekunden unterbrechen,
- das Handstück in das Ladegerät stellen.

90 Sekunden ertönt ein Signal und der Putzzyklus wird kurz
unterbrochen. Sie sollten das Putzen nun im nächsten Abschnitt
fortsetzen.
Akkuladestandsanzeige (nur bestimmte Gerätetypen)
◗Bei geringem Ladestand hören Sie nach dem zweiminütigen
Putzzyklus 5 Signaltöne. Gleichzeitig blinkt die Kontrolllampe in
schneller Folge.
Sobald das Signal für den geringen Akkuladestand ertönt, können Sie
sich noch maximal drei Mal jeweils 2 Minuten lang die Zähne putzen.
C1Zum Aufladen des Geräts stellen Sie das Handstück - mit dem
Ein-/Ausschalter nach vorn - in das Ladegerät.
◗Die Kontrolllampe blinkt langsam, wenn das Handstück im
Ladegerät steht und signalisiert damit, dass der Ladevorgang
stattfindet.
◗Wenn die Sonicare voll geladen ist, leuchtet die Kontrolllampe
kontinuierlich (ohne zu blinken) und meldet, dass die Sonicare
betriebsbereit ist.
Bewahren Sie die Sonicare im Ladegerät auf, um jederzeit über die
volle Akkuladung zu verfügen.
Reinigung
Durch regelmäßiges Reinigen sorgen Sie für optimale Leistung und eine
lange Nutzungsdauer Ihres Geräts.
C1Spülen Sie Bürstenkopf und Borsten nach jedem Gebrauch ab.

C2Reinigen Sie den Bürstenkopf wöchentlich, auch unter der
Mutter.
So lösen Sie die Mutter:
C◗Drücken Sie leicht mit den Daumen auf den Gummirand.
Verwenden Sie dabei keine scharfen Gegenstände, um Beschädigungen
zu vermeiden.
C◗Ziehen Sie die Mutter nach oben über das Ende des
Bürstenkopfes.
Zum Befestigen schieben Sie die Mutter wieder über den Schaft des
Bürstenkopfes, bis sie hörbar einrastet.
C3Reinigen und trocknen Sie das Handstück regelmäßig.
4Reinigen Sie das Ladegerät regelmäßig.
Ziehen Sie vor dem Reinigen des Ladegeräts den Netzstecker.Trocknen
Sie das Ladegerät nach dem Reinigen gründlich, bevor Sie es wieder an
das Stromnetz anschließen.
Zum Säubern der Sonicare empfehlen wir ein mildes Reinigungsmittel,
Wasser und ein feuchtesTuch.
Ersatzteile
Bürstenkopf
Um dauerhaft optimale Ergebnisse zu erzielen, sollten die Sonicare-
Bürstenköpfe nach 6 Monaten ausgetauscht werden.Verwenden Sie
ausschließlich die für diesen Gerätetyp vorgesehenen Sonicare-
Bürstenköpfe.
