Safety Instructions for Electrical Equipment Used in High-
Power Industrial Plants
The electrical module and connected machines
described refer to equipment used in high-power
industrial plants. During operation, this
equipment has dangerous, live, moving or
rotating parts. They can therefore cause
considerable damage to health or equipment,
e.g., due to the unauthorized removal of
protective covers or inadequate maintenance.

module or system.

1 Correct Usage
The module is only to be used as specified in the
catalog and this data sheet. Phoenix Contact
accepts no liability if the device is used for
anything other than its designated use.
Dangerous voltage
Before working on the module or
system, disconnect the AC supply
voltage and ensure that it cannot be
switched on again.
If these instructions are not followed,
there is a danger of health risk, or
even of a life-threatening injury.
This data sheet describes the module
electronics for the motor starter, the
connections, and the parameteriza-
tion of the motor starter.
The motor starter consists of the
module electronics in the upper part
of the housing and the mounting base
housing.
Order the mounting base housing you
require separately. Ordering data can
be found on page 55.
Information about assembly and
installation of the module is given in
the Installation Guidelines
IBS IP 400 ELR INST.
The Installation Guidelines
IBS SYS FOC ASSEMBLY provide
specific information about optical fiber

2 General Description
2.1 Area of Application
The two-channel motor starter enables the
connection and disconnection of three-phase
asynchronous motors in production and
conveying systems that are networked with
INTERBUS.
2.2 Properties
Brake
There is an electronic solid-state contact
(braking relay, 2-wire technology) on each motor
output. This braking relay is directly coupled with
the switching states of the corresponding motor
output. When a motor is controlled, the relevant
braking relay is also active. It is also possible to
control the brake independently of the motor
(see "BR:" on page 29).
Voltage Supply
The four digital inputs and two digital outputs of
the motor starter are supplied from voltage US1,
together with the bus logic. This voltage is
supplied to the module through terminal strip
X13 (see Table 1 on page 14).
Application Program
In the INTERBUS output data words, the
application program can define a function bit
mask. Depending on the inputs, this mask is
used to control the connected motors (see
"Positioning Logic" on page 40). At the same
time, the input states are mapped to the
INTERBUS input data words.
Thermal Motor Protection/Motor Connector
Check
Thermistors or thermostatic switches can be
connected to the motor connector to monitor the
motor temperature. This monitoring function can
be used to check whether the motor connectors
are plugged in or not. (See "Thermal Motor
Protection" on page 44 and "Motor Connector
Check" on page 44).
HHOP Mode of the Module
In HHOP mode, all motor
protection functions are
deactivated.
In HHOP mode the motor starter can be
controlled locally, independent of the
INTERBUS system. In this case, it is possible to
use the functions "Motor 1 ON/OFF" and "Motor
2 ON/OFF".

3.3 Terminal Strip Assignment
The thermistor inputs pin 7/8 (signal
11/12; terminal strip X10) and pin 7/8
(signal 21/22; terminal strip X14) are
isolated from the supply voltages US1
according to EN 50178:1997.
Make sure that the brake is connected
with the correct polarity, otherwise it
cannot be expected to operate
properly.

Connecting the Hand-Held Operator Panel
When a motor is in HHOP mode, the motor
starter can be controlled in HHOP mode,
independent of the INTERBUS system. The
"Motor 1 ON/OFF" and "Motor 2 ON/OFF"
functions are available for this purpose.
HHOP mode can be implemented using a
temporarily connected hand-held operator
panel. Use female connector X32 to connect a
hand-held operator panel.
Order the hand-held operator panel according to
the ordering data:
(IBS HVO/M12, Order No. 28 37 00 6).
HHOP mode is enabled by connecting the IBS HVO hand-held operator panel.
When HHOP mode of the motor starter is
enabled, the LOC LED lights up (see Figure 2 on
page 7).
After HHOP mode for the motor starter has been
enabled, EOA (emergency operation
acknowledgment) is automatically set in the
input data words (see "INTERBUS Input Data
Words (Status Words)" on page 31).

4 Setting the Data Rate
The DIP switch can be used to set the data rate (switch 1). Set switch 1 to the OFF position for a data
rate of 500 kbaud and to the ON position for a data rate of 2 Mbaud (500 kbaud is set upon delivery).
DIP switch 2 is not assigned.

6 INTERBUS Process Data Words
6.1 INTERBUS Output Data Words
One output data word is available for each motor
channel.
If the code of bits 15 to 12 of an output data word
is 1111bin (Fhex), this output data word is used
for parameterization (parameterization word)
and the module is in parameterization mode. In
this mode, important operating parameters are
transmitted.
If the code in bits 15 to 12 of an output data word
is not equal to 1111bin (Fhex), then process data
is being transmitted (control word) and the
module is in process data mode. In this mode,
process data is processed in the module and the
motors are controlled.

6.1.1 Parameterization Word
Set all reserved bits to 0.
The relevant motor is automatically
switched off during parameterization.
If the 24 V power supply US1 fails, the
parameter settings are not stored. In
this case you have to parameterize
the motor starter again.

The diagnostic code 1hex is displayed after every successful parameterization. Set the output data
word to 0000hex, so that additional messages can be displayed.

Parameter Number 1hex: Parameterization of the Nominal Motor Current
Parameterize the nominal motor current in order
to activate the overcurrent protection function.
The nominal drive current (nominal motor
current) is, in this case, the parameter. The
adjustable nominal motor current range is 0.2 A
to 3.6 A. The parameterization word F1XXhex
defines the nominal motor current.
In addition to parameterizing the
nominal motor current using the
parameterization word, you can
specify the nominal motor current
using the control word (see
"Specifying the Nominal Current
Using Process Data" on page 30).

There is no linear relationship between nominal
motor current and nominal current code. Steps
of 50 mA, 100 mA, and 200 mA are used. For the
nominal current code, refer to Table 8 on
page 21 or calculate it yourself.
When calculating the three motor
current ranges, note that you must
use three different equations.
For a nominal motor current ranging from 0.2 A
to 1.2 A (in steps of 50 mA) the nominal current
code is calculated according to equation 1.
Where:
For a nominal motor current ranging from 1.3 A
to 3.0 A (in steps of 100 mA) the nominal current
code is calculated according to equation 2.
For a nominal motor current ranging from 3.2 A
to 3.6 A (in steps of 200 mA) the nominal current
code is calculated according to equation 3.
If you do not parameterize the
nominal motor current or if you enter a
nominal current code of 0, the default
value of Inom =0.2Ais valid.
Equally, if you parameterize the nominal motor
current greater than 3.6 A, the last valid value
still applies. The parameterization of the current
is not confirmed (diagnostic code 1hex is not
reported).
