Preparing the Parts
1) Takealookatthetwopatternsheetsandselectonepatternto
use.Then,cutoutyourpatternpartsinoneroughpiece.
2) Placethepartsoverthefoamsheet,tapingdowntheedges.If
cutinonepiece,thepartsshouldtoverthefoamsheet.
3) Usingthestraightedgeandpen,rmlymarkoverthelinesofthe
patternpieces(Figure1).

4) Removethe
tapeandlift
oneedgeofthe
patternsheet.If
thepenmadea
solidindentation
onthefoam,
removethe
patternandcut
outthepieces.If
not,reattachtheoneedgeofthepatternandcutouttheparts
usingthepatterndirectly(Figure2).Note: Youcanmakean
indentationonthedottedlinesthatwillformthetrimtabsbut
donotcutthem.Theshortsideofthetrimtabswillbecutlater.
5) Beforethrowingawaythepattern,
payattentiontowhatsideofthe
partsarelabeledasthefront.You
cancolorormakepatternsonthe
foampiecesusingthemarkers.
6) Creasethecenterofthelarge
wing(Figure3).Usingtheedgeof
atable,createacamber(aslight
arch)inthewingmoretowardthe
frontofthewing(Figure4).
7) Onthetwosmallerfoampieces,
carefullycutthe
smallsolidlines
thatgointothe
part.Wherethere
aredottedlines,
foldandslightly
creasethefoam
(Figure5).These
trimtabswillbe
helpfulwhen
yingtheplane.

Assembling the Parts
1) Applyanadhesivelineononesideof
awing-mountingclip.Repeatonthe
otherside(Figure6)andremovethe
backingfrombothlines.
2) Attachittothebottomofthewing’s
underside,withthecenteroftheclip
overthecreasedcenterofthewing.
3) RepeatStep1withtheotherclip,two
moregluelines,andthetopunderside
ofthewing(Figure7).
4) Tracethecenterlineonthe
tailwing,whichiscalled
thestab(Figure8).Place
twogluelinesalongthis
centerline.Removethe
backingfromthegluelines
andlineupthetaperedend
ofthemotorstickonthem
(Figure9).Pressthemotor

5) Findthenand
notethatthetwo
longestsideswill
bethevertical
heightofthe
n.Ofthetwo
othersides,place
twogluelines
alongtheside
ofthelongest
edge(Figure10).
Removethebackingandplacethensothegluelinescomein
contactwiththe
motorstickabove
thestab(Figure11).
6) Basedonthe
measurement
providedforyour
planeintheFigure
12,measureand
markthatlength
onyourmotorstick
startingfromthe
frontofthemotor
stick.Thisisthe
leadingedgethat
youwillalignthe
wingto.

7) Takethewingandpressthemotorstickintotheclips,moving
thewingsothefrontislinedupwiththemark.Usingtape,
securetheclipsinthislocation(Figure13).
8) Insertthepinintothe
motorstickjustinfrontof
thestab.Thepinshould
beatanangletowardthe
backoftheplane(Figure
14).
9) Attachthepropellerto
thefrontofthemotor
stickwiththehookonthe
undersideoftheplane

10)Tiethetwoendsoftherubbermotortogetherinaknot.Hook
theknottedendoverthepinandtheotherendoverthe
propellerhook(Figure16).
Flying the Flyer
Caution: Beforeyingyourplane,makesureyouhavealarge,open
areatoyitin.Makesurenooneisinthewayofyourightpath.
1) Holdingthemotorstickwithonehand,windtherubberband
clockwisebyturningthepropeller.Ifyouhaveawinder,usethat
andfollowitsdirectionsforwinding–mechanicalwinderswork
dierentlyfromelectricwinders(Figure17onthenextpage).
Werecommend100to400winds–donotwinditmorethan
400turns.Fortherstight,onlywindit100timesandtestthe
plane.

propeller,gently
tosstheplanein
thedirectionof
yourchosenight
path.Makeany
changestothetrim
tabsthatyouthink
arenecessaryand
testitagain.Ideally,
theplanewilly
inagentleupward
spiral.
3) Whentheplane
iesasyoulike,you
canwinditfora
longeright.
