1.2 Networking Protocols
VIPsupports severalindustry-standard networking protocols requiredfor voice communication. The
followingtable describesthese protocols.
Networking Protocol Description
Internet Protocol(IP) IP is a messaging protocolthat addressesandsendspackets across the
network.To
enable IPprotocol, VIPmust have a static IP address,subnet,
and gateway assignedto it.
Voiceover IP Protocol
(VoIP)
VoIP enablesVIP to transfer voicecommunications overanIPnetwork.
VIPemploys ITU-T SIPprotocolforsetting up call with one another.
Trivial FileTransfer
Protocol(TFTP)
TFTP allowsyou to transfer files over thenetwork.VIP implementsa
TFTP client allowingyoutodownloadnewrevision firmware fromaTFTP
server. TheTFTP client requires a TFTP server in your network.
Real-Time Transport
(RTP)
RTPisastandardfortransportingreal-time dataover IP network.VIP
uses RTPprotocol to send digitizedandcompressedvoice packets.
