Beforeinstallingyourscanner,pleaseverifythatyouhaveallofthepropercomponents.
AlistofthepackagecontentsisprovidedintheBoxContentssectionofthisguide.
SoftwareInstallationRequirements
YourscannercomeswithIDrecognitionsoftware(iKnow)andthescanner’sdriver.Allof
thesesoftwareapplicationsuseapproximately800megabytesofharddiskspaceafterthey
areinstalledintoyourcomputer.Toensureampleroomfortheinstallation,aswellasfor
scanningandsavingimages,aminimumof1gigabyteofharddiskspaceisrecommended.
TheUSBscannercanonlyoperateundertheMicrosoftWindows7/8/10operating
system.
HardwareRequirements
ThisscannerconnectstoyourcomputerthroughtheUniversalSerialBus(USB),which
supportshotswap.TodeterminewhetheryourcomputerisUSB‐capable,youmustcheck
therearofyourPCtolocateaUSBjackthatlooksthesameastheonepicturedbelow.Note
thatonsomecomputers,theUSBportattherearofthecomputermaybeoccupiedand
additionalportsmaybefoundonthemonitororkeyboard.Ifyouarehavingtroublein
locatingtheUSBportonyourcomputer,pleaserefertothehardwaremanualthatcame
withyourcomputer.
Uponexamination,youshouldfindoneortworectangularUSBports,whichusually

1.PlugtheACadapterintothescanner’spowerreceptor.
2.PlugtheotherendoftheACadapterintoastandardACpoweroutlet.
3.PlugthesquareendoftheincludedUSBcabletotheUSBportofthescanner.
4.PlugtherectangularendoftheUSBcabletotheUSBportonthebackofyourcomputer.
Note:IfthereisanotherUSBdeviceconnectedtothecomputer,connectthescannerto
anavailableUSBport.
5.IfyouplantoconnectyourscannertoaUSBhub3,makesurethatthehubisconnected
totheUSBportinyourcomputer.Next,connectthescannertotheUSBhub.

maintenancecankeepyourscannerworkingsmoothly.
CleantheScanner
Paperpowder,dust,inkandtonerfrompaperbeingscannedmaymaketheinner
scannerdirty,whichleadstopoorimagequalityordocument‐feedingerrors.Oftenclean
yourscannercouldensureyourscanningbetterefficiency.
Warning
Beforecleaningthescanner,turnoffthescanneranddisconnectthe
scanner’spowercableandUSBcable,andthenwaitafewminutesfor
theglassand/ortheinnerscannertocooltoambienttemperature.
Washyourhandswithsoapandwateraftercleaningthescanner.
CleaningMaterials
Havethefollowingcleaningmaterialsreadytocleanthescanner:
Cleansingcloth(oracottonswab)
non‐abrasivecleaner‐Isopropylalcohol(95%).DONOTusewater.

1.Openthescannercovergently.
2.WipetheFeedRollerfromsidetosideandthenrollit.

3.Cleantheglasssidetoside.Repeatthisuntilitsentiresurfaceiscleaned.

Donotspraycleanerdirectlyontothescannerglass.Excessliquidresidue
mayfogordamagethescanner.
4.Waitforcleanedareastodrycompletely.
5.Pressdowntherevoltbracketuntilitsnapsbackintoplace.
CalibratingtheScanner
Calibratethescannerifcolorsappearinareasthatshouldbewhite,orcolorsofthe
scannedimageandtheoriginalvaryalot.Thisallowsyoutoadjustandcompensatefor
variationsthatcanoccurintheopticalcomponentovertimebyitsnature.
Thefollowingdescribeshowtocalibratethescanner:
1.Insertthespecialcalibrationsheetfaceupintothepagefeedslotofthescanner.

Windows8.1users:Pointyourmousecursortotheupperorlowerrightcornerof
yourscreentoopentheCharmbar.ClickontheStartcharm,thenclickonthe
downwardsarrowbuttoninthelowerleftcornerofthescreen.TheAppsscreenwill
beshown.Moveyourcursortotherightedgeofthescreentoscrollrightuntilyou
findYourscannermodelname,andthenclickonCalibrationWizard.)
3.ClickNextfromtheCalibrationWizardthatpopsupandthenclickCalibrateNow....
4.ClickontheStartbuttontobeginthecalibrationprocess.
5.Thescannerpullsthecalibrationsheetthroughthescanner,whichcompletesthis
