INTRODUCTION
The 1/2 HP Non-Submersible Transfer Pump is ideal for applications such as
emptying water heaters, swimming pools, livestock tanks, boats and similar
tasks.
SAFETY

WORK AREA
1. Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean, well-
lit and free of distractions. Place lights so you are not working in a
shadow.

or damage. Lock tools away and keep out of the reach of children.

4. Do not install or use in the presence of flammable gases, dust or liquids.
5. Protect hoses from vehicle traffic by placing planks on each side of the
hose to allow vehicles to pass over without obstructing or collapsing
the hose.
6. The area should have adequate slopes and drainage to reduce the
possibility of a fall due to slippery surfaces.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection
for the eyes. Eye protectionequipment should comply with CSA Z94.3-07
or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of work performed.
2. Wear gloves that provideprotection based on the work materials or to
reduce the effects of tool vibration.
3. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment and tool.
4. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance in
the work environment.
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
Controlthe tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid
personal injury or damage to tool.
1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol or medications.
2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the
moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair covered or bound.
3. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and balance
enables better control in unexpected situations.
SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

1. Use the correct tool for the job. This toolwas designed for a specific
function. Do not modify or alter this tool or use it for an unintended
purpose.

2. Do not use the tool if any parts are damage broken or misplaced. Repair
or replace the parts.
3. Do not insert a finger or any object into the pump openings.
4. The pump is non-submersible.
5. Operate waterpump from a stable surface. Anchor t he pump to avoid
equipment movement. The load from hosesmay cause thepump to tip over.
6. Only pump water with this pump to avoid creating a hazardous situation
or damaging the pump.
a. The pump can pass solids up to 1/8 in. in size. Larger solids can
jam and damage the pump. Add an intake filtering screen to the
intake hose.
7. Do not obstruct the suction or discharge hose in any way.
8. Never run the pump against a closed discharge. The pump may
overheat, damaging the seals and creating a situation where a burn
injury can result.
9. Do not run the pump dry. This will cause cavitation in the pump
mechanism and can damage the pump beyond repair. Prime the pump
after 5 minutes if water is not flowing.
10. Do not allow the pump or any other system component to freeze, as
this can damage the pump during operation.
11. Never move machine by pulling on the hoses. Hold the unit’s frame
when moving it.
12. Do not touch the pump or motorwhile it is operating,as it can inflict a
burn injury. Allow 20 minutes to cool before handling.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
WARNING! Do not touch or handle a livetool withany part of your body that
is wet or damp. Wet skin reduces resistance to electrical current, increasing
the danger of a serious or fatal shock.
WARNING! To reduce risk of electric shock, be certain that theplug is
connected to a properly grounded receptacle.
1. Disconnect the tool from the power supply before making any
adjustments, changing accessories, cleaning, servicing or when
storing. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting
the tool accidentally.

2. Do not expose the toolto rain, snow, frost or any other damp or wet
conditions. Water entering a tool will increase the risk of electric
shock. Only use in an environment that is dry and cool, with enough
clearance to allow air flow.
3. Do not disconnect the power cord in place of using the power switch.
This will prevent an accidental start-up when the power cord is
plugged into the power supply.
a. In the event of a power failure, turn off the machine as soon as
the power is interrupted. The possibility of accidental injury could
occur if the power returns and the unit is not switched off.
4. Do not alter any parts of the tool or accessories. All parts and
accessories are designed with built-in safety features that may be
compromised if altered.
5. Make certain the power source conforms to requirements of your
equipment (see Specifications).
6. This tool is only for use on 120 V (single phase) and is equipped with a
three-prong grounded power supply cord and plug. Check with a
qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is
properly grounded. If the tool should electronically malfunction or
break down, grounding provides a low resistance path to carry
electricity away from the user.
a. Never remove the grounding prong or modify the plug in any way,
as this will render the tool unsafe.
b. Do not use any adapter plugs.
WARNING! All wiring should be performed by a qualified electrician.
POWER CORD
1. Insert the power cord plug directly to the power supply whenever
possible. Use extension cords or surge protectors only when the tool's
power cord cannot reach a power supply from the work area.
a. When operating a tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord
marked W-A or W. These cords are rated for outdoor use and
reduce the risk of electric shock.
b. Use in conjunction with a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI).
It is recommended that the GFCI should have a rated residual
current of 30 mA or less.

2. Do not operate this tool if the power cordis frayed, damaged or poorly
spliced, as an electric shock may occur, resulting in personal injury or
property damage.
a. Inspect the tool's power cord for cracks, fraying or other faults in
the insulation or plug before each use.
b. Discontinue use if a power cord feels more than comfortably
warm while operating the tool.
3. Keep all connections dry and off the ground to reduce the risk of
electric shock. Do not touchthe plug with wet hands.
4. Prevent damage to the power cord by observing the following:
a. Do not pull on the cord to disconnect the plug from an outlet.
b. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
c. Never use the cord to carry the tool.
d. Place the electrical cord in a positionthat prevents it from coming
into contact with the tooland getting caught by the workpiece.
The cord should always stay behind the tool.
5. Do not allow people, mobile equipment or vehicles to pass over
unprotected power cords.
a. Position power cords away from traffic areas.
b. Place cords in reinforced conduits or place planks on either side of
the power cord to create a protective trench.
6. Do not wrap the cord aroundthe tool, as sharp edges may cut
insulation or cause cracks if wound too tight. Gently coil cord and
either hang on a hook or fasten with a device to keep cord together
during storage.
7. Do not run the cord under carpeting or cover with throw rugs, runners
or similar coverings. Covering that cord may result in the tool
overheating and starting a fire.
UNPACKING
WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace the
missing part before operating. Failure to do so could result in a malfunction
and personal injury.
Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for damage.
Make sure that all items in the Identification Key are included.

OPERATION
Letter references in parenthesis (A) refer to the included Identification Key.
The transfer pump is portable and meant for temporary use in a location.
Using the pump as a permanent outdoor installation requires a protective
cover, as it is not waterproofor weatherproof.
The pump has a maximum lift of 15 feet. This is the vertical difference in
height between the two hose ends.
1. Place the pump as close as possible to the water source, but no further
than 15 feet away.
2. Attach a 3/4 in. pipe (galvanized or plastic) or a non-collapsible hose to the
inlet (H). Check that the connection has a rubber seal to prevent leaks.
a. Do not use a regular garden hose as the suction force will collapse
it and prevent adequate water from reaching the pump.
3. Make sure the inlet hose is not kinked or coiled.
4. Consider installing a foot valve between the inlet line and the pump to
retain the priming water, when the intake hose lift is over 5 feet.
5. Attach a 3/4 in. hose to the discharge outlet (E). This can be a regular
garden hose. Use the shortest length that is feasible.
6. Screw the filter (C) onto the end of the inlet hose before submerging it
in natural water sources such as a creek or pond or water containing
foreign objects.

7. Check that the power switch is OFF and plug the pump into an outlet,
preferably a GFCI protected electrical outlet.
8. The pump will take up to 5 minutes to self-prime. An option to reduce
the wait time is to manually prime the pump
a. Unplug the pump from the power source.
b. Remove priming plug (F) from top of the pump. Fill pump with
clean water up to top of discharge outlet. Replace priming plug.
c. Plug the pump back into power source and turn on.
d. If water still isn’t flowing, prime the pump again. Also consider
moving the pump closer to the water and/or using a shorter inlet
hose.
9. The pump’s thermal overload device will trigger automatically when
the pump’s temperature exceeds the upper range. Turn off and unplug
the pump and allow to cool. Once cooled, it may be reused without
resetting.
10. Rinse the pump and hoses out with clean water after transferring dirty
water or water from a natural source. This will clean out grit, sand and
other particulate matter that can damage the pump.
EXTENSION CORD
Increasing an extension cord’s length
requires a heavier wire gauge. Always
use the shortest extension cord with
the thickest wire gauge for the task.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
1. Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier
to control and will have fewer problems.
2. Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or
worn components. Only use identical replacement parts when servicing.
3. Maintain thetool’s labels and name plates. Thesecarry important
information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess AutoLtd.for
replacements.
WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool. An
improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user and/or others.

CARBON BRUSH MAINTENANCE
The carbon brushes may require maintenance when the motor performance
of the tool decreases or stops working completely. Inspect the carbon
brushes (B) after every 120 hours of operation.
1. Remove the brush cap (D) from the brush holder on each side of the
motor housing.
2. Remove the carbon brushes from the housing. Keep track of how the
carbon brushes are orientated during removal. The concave surface
must be oriented in the same way if the brushes are reused. This will
prevent unnecessary wear after reinstalling them.
3. Clean old carbon brushes before reinstalling them. Rub the contact
areas with a pencil eraser.
4. Reinsert the old carbon brushes in the same orientation to reduce wear.
5. Replace both carbon brushes if either is worn down more than 50 percent.
6. When installing the carbon brushes make sure the carbon portions of
the carbon brushes contact the motor armature, and that the springs
face away from the motor. Also, make sure the springs operate freely.
7. Replace the brush caps. Do not overtighten.
IMPORTANT! New carbon brushes tend to spark when first used until they
wear and conform to the motor's armature.
DISPOSAL
Recycle a tool damaged beyond repair at the appropriate facility.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Visit a Princess Auto Ltd. location for a solution if the tool does not function
properly or parts are missing. If unable to do so, have a qualified technician
service the tool.

Une stabilité et un équilibre appropriés sont nécessaires afin d'avoir un
meilleur contrôle en cas de situations inattendues.
CONSIGNES DE SÉCURITÉ SPÉCIFIQUES
AVERTISSEMENT! Ne permettez PAS au confort ou à votre familiarisation
avec l'outil (obtenus après un emploi répété) de se substituer à une
adhésion stricte aux règles de sécurité de l'outil. Si vous utilisez cet outil de

1. Utilisez le bon outil pour la tâche à effectuer. Cet outil a été conçu pour
une utilisation spécifique. Évitez de modifier ou d'altérer cet outil ou de

2. N’utilisez pas l’outil si des pièces présentent des dommages ou sont

3. N'introduisez pas un doigt ou un objet dans les orifices de la pompe.
4. La pompe n'est pas submersible. Assurez-vous que le moteur demeure
sec en tout temps.
5. Actionnez la pompe à eau à partir d'une surface stable. Fixez
solidement la pompe pour éviter que l'équipement ne se déplace. La
charge attribuable aux tuyaux peut faire basculer la pompe.
6. Ne pompez que de l’eau avec cette pompe pour ne pas provoquer de
situation dangereuse ou l’endommager.
a. La pompe convient aux particules solides allant jusqu’à 1/8 po. Des
solides plus gros pourraient bloquer et endommager la pompe.
Ajoutez un tamis de filtre d’admission au tuyau d’alimentation.
7. N'obstruez pas le tuyau d'aspiration ou de refoulement d'aucune façon.
8. Ne faites jamais fonctionner la pompe avec un système de refoulement
fermé. La pompe peut surchauffer, endommageant ainsi les joints et
provoquant une situation propice aux blessures par brûlure.
9. Ne faites pas fonctionner la pompe à sec. Cela entraînera la cavitation à
l'intérieur du mécanisme de la pompe et peut endommager la pompe et
la rendre impossible à réparer. Amorcez la pompe après un délai de 5
minutes si l’eau ne circule pas.
10. N'actionnez jamais la pompe si un panier à crépine n'est pas relié à
l'extrémité du tuyau d'aspiration.

11. Ne déplacez jamais l'appareil en tirant sur les tuyaux. Tenez l'appareil
par son cadre lorsque vous devez le déplacer.
12. Ne touchez pas à la pompe ou au moteur pendant le fonctionnement en
raison du risque de brûlure. Attendez 20 minutes pour que la pompe
refroidisse avant de la manipuler.
SÉCURITÉ EN ÉLECTRICITÉ
AVERTISSEMENT ! Ne touchez et ne manipulezpas un outil sous tension avec une
partie ducorps qui est mouillée ouhumide.La peauhumide réduit la résistance
au courant électrique,augmentant ainsi le risque de choc grave ou mortel.
AVERTISSEMENT ! Pour réduire les risques de chocélectrique,assurez-vous que la
fiche est branché dans une prise de courant correctement mise à la masse.
1. Débranchezl’outil de la source d’alimentation avant d’effectuer des réglages
quelconques,de changer des accessoires, de nettoyer l’outil, de l’entretenir
ou de le ranger. De telles mesures de sécuritépréventives réduisent le risque
d’une mise en marche imprévue de l’outil.
2. N'exposez pas l’outil à la pluie, à la neige, au gel ou à d'autres
conditions humides ou mouillées. Si l'eau pénètre à l'intérieur d'un
outil, le risque de choc électrique devient beaucoup plus grand. Utilisez
seulement dans un environnement sec et frais, avec un dégagement
suffisant pour permettre à l’air de circuler.
3. Ne débranchez pas le cordon d’alimentation au lieu d’utiliser
l’interrupteur d’alimentation. Ceci permet d’éviter une mise en marche
involontaire lorsque vous branchez le cordon d’alimentation sur la
prise électrique.
a. Advenant une panne de courant, fermez l'appareil dès que le
courant est interrompu. Il pourrait y avoir un risque de blessure
accidentelle advenant le retour du courant alors qu'on n'a pas
fermé l'appareil.
4. Ne modifiez aucune partie de l'outil ou des accessoires. Toutes les
pièces et tous les accessoires sont conçus avec des dispositifs de
sécurité intégrés qui seront compromis s'ils sont modifiés.
5. Assurez-vous que la source d'énergie est conforme aux exigences de
votre équipement (consulter les spécifications).
6. Cet outil ne doit être utilisé qu’avec un courant (monophasé) de 120 V
et il est muni d’un cordon d’alimentation et d’une fiche à trois broches
avec mise à la terre. Consultez un électricien qualifié si vous doutez de

la mise à la masse appropriée d'une prise. En cas de défaillance
électronique ou de bris de l'outil, la mise à la masse procure un trajet
de faible résistance pour éloigner l'électricité de l'utilisateur.
a. Ne retirez jamais la broche de masse et ne modifiez jamais la fiche
puisque cela fera en sorte que l'outil ne sera plus sécuritaire.
b. N'utilisez aucune fiche d'adaptation.
AVERTISSEMENT ! Tout le câblage doit être installé par un électricien qualifié.
CORDON D'ALIMENTATION
1. Autant que possible, insérez la fiche du cordon d'alimentation
directement dans la source d'énergie. N'utilisez des rallonges ou des
limiteurs de surtension que lorsque le cordon d'alimentation de l'outil
est trop court pour atteindre la source d'énergie depuis l'aire de travail.
a. Lorsque vous vous servez d'un outil électrique à l'extérieur,
employez un cordon prolongateur portant la mention W-A ou W.
Ces rallonges peuvent être utilisées à l'extérieur et elles réduisent
le risque de choc électrique.
b. Servez-vous de l'outil avec un interrupteur de circuit en cas de fuite
à la terre (GFCI). Il est recommandé que le disjoncteur de fuite de
terre possède un courant résiduel nominal de 30 mA ou moins.
2. N'utilisez pas cet outil si le cordon d'alimentation est effilé,
endommagé ou mal épissé, car un choc électrique peut se produire, ce
qui pourrait causer des blessures ou des dommages matériel.
a. Avant chaque utilisation, inspectez le cordon d'alimentation de
l'outil; vérifiez qu'il n'est ni fissuré, ni effiloché et que l'isolant et la
fiche ne sont pas endommagés.
b. Arrêtez d'utiliser l'outil si le cordon d'alimentation est trop chaud
au toucher.
3. Pour réduire le risque de choc électrique, assurez-vous que toutes les
connexions sont sèches et qu’elles ne présentent aucun contact avec le
sol. Ne touchez pas la fiche avec les mains mouillées.
4. Pour éviter tout dommage au cordon d'alimentation, observez les
précautions suivantes :
a. Ne tirez jamais sur le cordon d'alimentation pour déconnecter la
fiche de la prise.

b. Tenez le cordon à l'écart de la chaleur, de l'huile, des rebords
coupants ou des pièces mobiles.
c. N'utilisez jamais le cordon d'alimentation pour transporter l'outil.
d. Disposez le cordon électrique de façon qu'il ne touche pas l'outil et
qu'il ne risque pas de se prendre dans la pièce à travailler. Le
cordon doit toujours se trouver derrière l'outil.
5. Veillez à ce que personne, ni aucun matériel mobile ni des véhicules
n'écrasent les cordons d'alimentation non protégés.
a. Disposez les cordons d'alimentation loin des zones de passage.
b. Placez les cordons d'alimentation à l'intérieur de conduits
renforcés ou placez des planches de chaque côté du cordon
d'alimentation pour créer un couloir protecteur.
6. N'enroulez pas le cordon autour de l'outil car les bords tranchants
risquent d'entailler l'isolant ou des fissures peuvent se former sur le
cordon s'il est enroulé trop serré. Enroulez délicatement le cordon et
suspendez-le à un crochet ou attachez-le sur un support pour qu'il
reste enroulé pendant son rangement.
7. Ne placez pas le cordon d’alimentation sous un tapis, une carpette, un
tapis d’escalier ou d’autres revêtements similaires. Le fait de couvrir le
cordon pourrait entraîner la surchauffe de l’outil et ainsi provoquer
un incendie.
DÉBALLAGE
AVERTISSEMENT ! Ne faites pas fonctionner l'outil si des pièces sont
manquantes. Remplacez les pièces manquantes avant l'utilisation. Le
non-respect de cet avertissement peut entraîner une défectuosité et des
blessures graves.
Retirez les pièces et les accessoires de l'emballage et vérifiez s'il y a des
dommages. Assurez-vous que tous les articles dans le guide d’identification
sont compris.
