Troubleshooting
Symptom Possible Cause Remedy
The EnvirON range of environmental controls
provides disabled and elderly users with a unique,
flexible approach to controlling their environment.
EnvirON Switch 125 provides a method to control
mains-powered† as well as infra-red devices* such
as TVs and radios. Because EnvirON Switch 125 is a
wireless device it does not suffer from the
directional behaviour of infra-red systems,
allowing the user the freedom to place the switch
at any position to achieve the most comfortable
and practical configuration. EnvirON Hub then
converts the wireless signals into infra-red.
Because EnvirON Switch 125 is a single,
stand-alone switch it is very straightforward to
use, which is a great benefit to users with learning
difficulties. Having a single switch to put the TV
onto the user’s favourite channel is cognitively
straightforward and the availability of the unit in
several colours helps to differentiate between
switches should there be several in the
configuration.

Function
Step 1. Fitting the batteries
First release the screw from the battery cover on the underside of the unit and remove the flap. Fit two
good-quality AAA sized batteries, paying particular attention to ensure correct orientation (a moulded ‘+’
symbol indicates the positive terminal location) then replace the battery cover and fix using the screw.
If you are not intending to use your EnvirON Switch 125 for an extended period of time, it is advisable to
remove the batteries to prevent leakage, which may damage the product.
Step 2. Pairing with EnvirON receiver
First of all decide which EnvirON receiver you will be using EnvirON Switch 125 with. This could be
EnvirON Hub if you are going to use the switch to control an infra-red device or it could be an iClick for
mains powered devices or EnvirON Connect for door/ window/ curtain openers and locks. Whichever
receiver you will be using, the procedure is the same:
First of all, press Pair on the receiver. Adjacent to the Pair button will be a Pairing LED which will flash
slowly. While it is flashing, press the Pair button [1] on EnvirON Switch 125 - see diagram below. The
pairing process typically takes less than a second to complete, after which a ‘P’ will appear in the display
[3] to show that the switch is now paired with the chosen receiver.
Step 3. Choose the Mode of the switch
The function of the switch is selected using the Mode button [2] and the display [3]. The mode that you
choose differs depending on whether you are using the switch to control an infra-red device or a wireless
device:
Wireless devices
The Mode of the switch tells the receiver with which it is paired what to do when it receives some
information from the switch. You can decide whether the device is on only for the time you press the
switch (Momentary or Direct), whether it changes from off to on and vice versa each time the switch is
pressed (Latched) or whether it turns on for a certain period of time (Timed). Which of these you choose
depends to a large extent on the type of device you are controlling. For example if it’s a lamp, you will
probably want it to be in Latched mode whereas if it’s a door opener you may need it to be Timed.
Use Table 1 to choose the correct mode for the device you are going to control with the switch and then
press the Mode button [2] repeatedly until you see that setting appear on the display [3]. After a few
seconds of making no further changes, the display goes blank to save power and the new setting is
retained in the switch’s memory even if the batteries are removed or run flat.
For example, let’s suppose that we would like to have the switch control a lamp plugged into channel 1 of
iClick. Having already paired the switch using PAIR 1 on iClick, we must now set the Mode of the switch to
‘2’ which is latched. Each time we press the switch the lamp will change from on to off and vice versa.
Infra-Red Devices
If you are going to use your switch to control an infra-red device
such as a TV, you will need to pair it with an EnvirON Hub. You
must then choose which Mode to set the switch to in order to
achieve the required action. The switch will then send the
relevant information to Hub wirelessly and Hub will convert it
to infra-red for the TV.
You should already have programmed the required infra-red
codes into Hub and also written them onto the provided
Infra-Red Chart. If not, please do this now, by reference to the
Hub instruction booklet, before proceeding.
Now look down the entries in the Infra-Red Chart and choose
the function you would like to assign to the switch. For
example, it may be Power On/Off or Channel Up. Read the Code
number for that infra-red function and set the switch Mode to
the same number.
Let’s suppose we want to set the switch to Channel Up, which
according to the Infra-Red Chart is on Code 2. Then press the
Mode button [2] repeatedly until you see ‘2’ appear on the
display [3]. After a few seconds of making no further changes,
the display goes blank to save power and the new setting is
retained in the switch’s memory even if the batteries are
removed or run flat.
The switch will now instruct the TV to increase the channel
number each time it is pressed, via Hub.
Note that Modes 23 and 24 give ‘On Only’ and ‘Off Only’ operation and
must be used as a pair to achieve full control of a device. In some
cases it can be cognitively more straightforward to have a separate
switch for on and off and these two modes provide such a facility. You
could, for example, attach a photo of a lamp turned on and another of
it turned off to the switches. If you would like to make use of this
feature, pair two switches with the EnvirON receiver and set one to
Mode 23 (On Only) and the other to Mode 24 (Off Only).
