Connectthedust extractor!
If connections for dust extraction andcollecting
devices areavailable, make sure thattheseare
connected and in use.
Donot use thecable forpurposesitisnot
intended for!
Donot pull the mains plug out of the socket by
thecable. Protectthecableagainst heat, oil and
sharp edges.
Secure the work piece!
Use theclampingdevicesoravice to hold the
work piece. Itistherebymore reliably held than
byhand.
Avoidabnormal bodypositions!
Ensure safe standingandkeepyour balance at
all times.
Service your tools withgreatest care!
Keepyourtools sharp andclean, in ordertowork
safer andbetter.
Follow the maintenance instructions and the
notes about tool change.
Checkthecable regularly and letitbe renewed
upon damage by a professionaltechnician.
Checktheextension cable regularly and letitbe
renewed if it is damaged.
Keephandlesdry andfree of oil andgrease.
Donot leave toolspanners inserted!
Always make sure thatspanners andadjustment
tools havebeenremoved before switching on.
Pull the plug outofthesocket:
if the tool is not in use, before maintenanceand
when changing the tools,e.g.sawblade, drill,
millingcutter.
Avoid unintended starting!
Make sure the switchisinoff position when
inserting the plug into the socket.
Outdooruseof extension cable.
Onlyuseapproved and specially marked
extension cables for outdooruse.
Bealert!
Beawareofwhatyou do. Approachyour work in
a reasonable way. Donot use the tool if you are
tired.
Checkthetool forpossibledamages!
Beforefurtheruseofthe tool,all safety features
or slightly damaged parts must be thoroughly
inspected for their correct function asintended.
Checkwhethermovable parts work correctly and
are neitherjammed nor damaged. All parts must
be correctly assembled and meet all
prerequisites for troublefree operation of the tool.
Damaged safety features and partsmust be
properlyrepaired or replacedbyanapproved
workshop if not specified otherwise in the
operating instructions.
Havedamaged switchesreplaced in a service
workshop.
Donot use tools, on whichtheswitch canno
longer be switched on and off.

The use of other attachment tools and
accessories can cause risk of injury!
Letyour tool be repaired by a skilled electrician!
This tool correspondswiththeapplicable safety
regulations. Repairs must only be carried out by
a skilled electrician andbyusing originalspare

Description of machine:
With thePROXXON drill grinder BSG 220you
canperfectly grindall spiral drills with adiameter
between3and13 mm andastandardangle
(118°, DIN 1412). Thedrill may be ofHSS, CrV
or WS (toolsteel). Withtheswivelmovement
around two axes during theg
rinding process the
correct"relief" for optimal drilling is achieved.
With the integrated dressing stone the special
fused aluminagrinding wheel can be perfectly
cleaned and smoothened afterlongeruse.

Fastening thedrill grinder:
Before starting work fastenthedrill grinderwith
twowood screws to a stable wooden board. The
base plate of the machine is provided with the
necessary bores. The woodenplatecanthenbe
fastened to a table with screw clamps.
Operation:
Before grinding:
Note!
Broken off drillsmustbemanually pre-
ground on abuffing machine.
Attention!
Only correctly grounddrills will achieve
perfectresults. Therefore pleaseobservethe
special information andtables in thismanual.

1. Insert drill 1(Fig.3)into thebore ofclamp 2.
Letthedrill shank protrude for approx.10
mm attherearsothatitcan be fixed in the
clamping prism. Donot yettighten clamp
screw 3.
2. Lay drill 1(Fig. 5)with clamp 2into the
positioning prism, push forwardagainst the
stop andalign,asshowninFig.5(cutting
edgesvertical).
3. Slackenscrew3andadjust adjustment bar 4
accordingly.
4. Fastenthedrill in clamp 2using Allenkey1
(Fig.7).
Drills with diameterofless than3mm:
Drills with adiameterofless than3mm must be
clamped in theadapter13(Fig.1)supplied for
this purpose.
Adapters for spiral drill diameters
1.5/1.6/2.0/2.4/2.5and3.0 mm areavailableas
accessories. Inthis case proceed as follows:
Insert drill 1(Fig. 4)into theadapter 2andfasten
with the Allenkey3. Theshank of theadapter
has adiameterof10 mm. Insert thedrill with the
adapterinto clamp 4. The machine must then be
adjusted aspreviously described for adrill with a
10 mm diameter.
Grinding thedrill:
Danger!
Always weargoggles whenperforming
grinding work!
Wear only suitable workingclothes (no wide
arms, ties, jewellery).
1. Turn knurled screw 1(Fig. 8)indirection B to
openthepositioning prism.
2. Laythedrill into the positioning prism and
insert aguide pin 2of theclamp into the slot
3in the swivel arm.
3. Turn knurled screw 1in direction A to close
the positioning prism.
4. Fixthedrill shank in clamping prism 5. For
this purpose press indexknob 4, move the
clamping prism forwardandslightly clamp
thedrill shank with screw 6.
Note!
In case of small or tooshort drillsclamping
withscrew 6(Fig.8)isnot necessary.Inany
case ensure exact axial stop andguidance in
the clamping prism 5(Fig. 8)!
5. Turn spindle 1(Fig.9)until thedrill 2slightly
contacts thegrinding wheel 3.Read the
scale value 4and turn the spindle 1exactly
one turn back. Theclearancebetween drill 2
andgrinding wheelisnow 1mm.
6. Switchthemachine on bytheONOFF
switch 7(Fig.1).
Note!
Remember the position on scale4(Fig.9)!
After grinding the firstcuttingedge the drill is
turnedaroundinthe positioningprismand at
this pointitmusthave thesamedistance to
the grinding wheel as before thefirst cutting
edge was ground.Otherwise thedrill willbe
asymmetric.
7. Move the swivel arm smoothly andevenlyto
the right against the stop whileadvancing the
feed spindle 1(Fig.10) slowlyindirection B.
Repeatthis process, until thecuttingedge of
thedrill is sharp.
Note!
A drillisnormally correctly sharpenedafter 4-
5swivelling movements. Remember the
position on the scale!
8. Return feed spindle 1(Fig.11) to the
previously remembered scale value 4.
9. Switchthemachine off bytheONOFF
switch 7(Fig.1).
10. Turn knurled screw 3(Fig.11) in direction A
and slacken clamp screw 2so thatthedrill
can be removed from theclamp.
Attention!
Atthis pointdonot loosen the clamp!
11. Turn thedrill with theclamp for 180°, layit
into the positioning prism andfastenitinthe
clamping prism,asdescribed for grinding the
first cuttingedge.
12. Switchthemachine on bytheON-OFF
switch 7(Fig 1) andgrind the secondcutting
edge.
Attention!
When grinding thesecond cutting edge stop
the feed at exactly thesamepositionatwhich
the first grinding process was finished.
Otherwisethe drill will be asymmetric.

Relief angleadjustment:
Note!
The reliefangle is generally adjustedbythe
positioning in theclamp (Fig. 5).The relief
anglesetting is factory set for the drill
diameters from 3to13mmand should only
be adjustedinexceptional cases.
Adjust hexagon nut1(Fig.13) of theadjustment
spindleaccording to table (Fig.12).
Dressing the grindingwheel:
Note!
If grooves have formedorifthe grinding
wheel is blockeditmustbedressed, in order
to achieve goodgrinding results.
Attention!
Wear goggles!
1. Switchthedrill grinderonbytheONOFF
switch 7(Fig.1).
2. Press knob 1(Fig.14)slightly down and
move the pressing part 2severaltimesup
anddown, until thecompletefront face of the
grinding wheelhasbeenprocessed.
Replacing the grinding wheel:
Attention!
Replace the grinding wheel once it has
reached adiameter of less than 45 mm. A
spare grinding wheel Part-No.: 21200-58 is
delivered withthe machine.
1. Pull out the mains plug.
2. Removecap1(Fig.15)with a screwdriveror
similar.
3. Unscrewsockethead capscrew2(Fig.15),
remove washer 3andgrinding wheel 5with
clampingf
lange 4.
4. Mount the new grinding wheel 5with
clampingflange 4and washer 3. Tighten
sockethead capscrew2andplug on cap 1.
Plug in the main plug.
Careandmaintenance:
Thedrill grinderisalmost maintenance free. For
a long lifetime youshouldcleanthemachineafter
eachusewith compressed air andasoft cloth,
because thegrindingdust is very aggressive.
Wastedisposal:
Donot dispose of the machine with your
normalhousehold refuse! The machine
containsmaterials which can be recycled. If you
haveany questions on this matterpleaseask
your localwastedisposal company or other
municipal facilities.
