A. Introduction
Welcome to the Quadra-Fire family. This manual will help
you understand and operate the wall control attached to
yournewpelletAdvancedEnergyappliance.
TheQuadra-Fire WallControlis not just atraditional ther-
mostat,butanintegralpartofthepelletappliancesystem.
While it has many of the features one would expect from
an advanced thermostat, including programmable setback
capabilitiesandcurrenttemperaturedisplay,italsoindicates
thesystem’scurrentoperatingcycleandstate.Itdoesthis
by communicating with the appliance via a wired connec-
tion.
Additionally,itallowsyoutosetparametersthatwilloptimize
theperformanceofyourpelletappliancesystem.Thesepa-
rametersareaccessedwithaneasytonavigatemenusys-
tem.

1. System Status Codes
Thestatusareaisusedtoindicatethecurrentstatusofthe
system.Itindicatesifthesystemisrunninginautomaticor
manualcycle,ifitisturnedonoroffandwhereitisinthe
operatingsequence.
a. START-UP
Indicatesthattheapplianceisinstart-upcycleandisinthe
processoflightinganinitialchargeoffuel.
b. SS-LOW or SS-MED (SS = soft start)
Indicatesthesoft-startportionofthelightingsequence.In
thesestagestherebeginstograduallybuildtooperating
temperature.
c. AUTO: (x) or MAN: (x) (x) = heat output level
Indicates both the operating cycle (automatic or manual)
andthecurrentheatoutputlevel.Theheatoutputlevelwill
be“H”high,“MH”mediumhigh,“M”medium,“ML”medium
lowand“L”low.
d. READY
Indicatesthatthesystemisturnedonandisfunctioningnor-
mally,butthereisnocallforheat(theroomtemperatureis
notbelowthesettemperature).See Figure 7.1 on page 7.
e. SHUTDOWN
Indicatesthesystemisshuttingdown,eitherbecauseitisno
longercallingforheatorthemaximumburntimehasbeen
reachedandthesystemmustrunanauto-cleancycle.
f. AUTO-CLEAN
Indicatesthesystemisrunningtherepotauto-cleancycle.
g. OFF
Indicatesthesystemhasbeenshutdownbytheuser.
h. MAINT BURN (Battery Back-up Only)
Themaintenanceburnistokeepthesystemfromshutting
downwhenoperatingonbatterybackup.Theappliancewill
notautomaticallyre-lightinmanualmode.
2. Current Time
Indicatesthecurrenttime.Thetimeisusedfortheprogram-
mablesetbackfeaturesofthewallcontrol.
3. Set Temperature
Indicates the current set temperature. It will change auto-
maticallyasthe control progresses throughthe7 day set-
backprogram.IfthewallcontrolisinHOLDTEMPcyclethe
“Setat:”indicationwillchangeto“Holdat:”anddisplaysthe
operatingtemperaturesetting.
4. Notication Icons
Thesystemnoticationareausesiconstoindicateifanac-

C. General Information About Using the Wall
Control
Whenabuttonispressedandthescreenchangesfromthe
mainscreentooneoftheotherscreens,thebacklightwillil-
luminatethedisplayarea.Asbuttonsarepressed,theback-
lightcontinuestobeilluminated.
Most screens have a DONE button which can be used to
returntothepreviousscreenultimatelyreturningtothemain
screen.
Thewallcontrolwillautomaticallyrevertbacktothestarting
screenifthereisnoactivityfor15secondsexceptforthe
COMFIRMFUELCHANGEscreen.Themainscreenwillbe
illuminated for an additional 10 seconds and the backlight
willshutoff.
Ifthewallcontrolissubjectedtoastaticshock,thescreen
maygoblank.Ifthishappens,wait25secondsandpress
anybutton.Thiswillresetthescreenrestorefunctionality
andturnonthebacklight.Ifthisdoesnotwork,callyour
dealer.

playarea.Theirlabelscanchangedependingonthemenu
screen.Onthemainscreentheleftbuttonwillbringupthe
systemmenuandtherightbuttonhasfunctionalityonlyin

6. Current Temperature
Thecurrenttemperatureareaindicatesthetemperatureof
the room where the wall control is located. The tempera-
turedisplayedcanbeinunitsofFahrenheitorCelsius.The
desired units can be selected via the system menu. See
Figure 6.5 on page 6.
1. Set Comfort Level (Temperature)
The most basic operation of the wall control is to turn the
applianceonoroffdependingontherequirementforheat.
Fromthemainscreen,theSETCOMFORTLEVELscreen
canbeactivatedbypressingtheUPorDOWNbuttononthe
rightsideofthedisplayarea.
Thersttimeeitherbuttonispressedthedisplaychangesto
theSETCOMFORTLEVELscreenandshowsthecurrent
settemperature.SubsequentpressesorholdingtheUPor
DOWNbuttonwillchangethesettemperature. Figure 3.2.
You can override the programming either permanently or
temporarily. The HOLDTEMP button (lower right) on the
SET COMFORT LEVEL screen is used to override preset
programming. Figure 3.3. By pressing the HOLD TEMP
button,thecurrentsettemperaturewillpermanentlyoverride
anyprogrammedtemperatureinthe7daysetbackprogram-
ming.Thisisaconvenientwayofoverridingaprogramwhen
your schedule changes temporarily and you don’t want to
reprogramthesetbackfunctionsonthewallcontrol.
Toreleasethepermanentoverride,pressthebuttonlabeled
RESUMEwhenintheHOLDTEMPcycle.Pressingthebut-
tonagainwillresumetheprogrammingatthenextprogram
interval.Figure 3.4.
To temporarily override the programming, use the UP and
DOWNbuttonsonlyanddonotpresstheHOLDTEMPbut-
ton.Thedisplaywillshowhowlongthenewtemperaturewill
hold before it returns to the next scheduled programming.

In MANUAL cycle, the heat output remains the same re-
gardless of the difference between the set and room tem-
peratures. The wall control will function as a simple on/off
thermostat.WhenthesystemissettoMANUALtheHEAT
OUTPUTselectionisaddedinthelowerrightcorner.
Pressthebuttonunderthisselectiontoaccessthisfeature.
TheHEATOUTPUTscreenisusedtosetthelevelofheat
produced whenever the wall control calls for heat. Figure

usedwiththepelletsystem.Thelistonthisscreenindicates
allfuelchoicesavailabletoburnintheappliance.
NOTE: The list of fuels can be updated by your local
dealer as they become available.
Toselectafueltype,usetheUP/DOWNbuttonstoscrollto
thedesiredfueltypeandthenpressthebuttonunder“Se-
lect”.Thearrowwillchangetoindicatethecurrentlyselect-
edfuel.
NOTE:Ifyouareburningahighashfuelsetthefuelselec-
tionto“UtilityPellets”.
Whenpurchasingcornorwheattoburninyourappliance,
readtheingredientlabelverycarefully.Do NOT purchase
fuel that contains any additivessuchasoils(i.e.soybean
oil)andmealsasitwillresultinpoorapplianceperformance.
Ifyouarebuyingcornorwheattheonlyingredientthatshould
belistediscornorwheat.

Thewallcontrolispre-programmedat68oFforalltimeset-
tings.Itwillremainthereuntilitisre-programmed.
Thewallcontrolcanbeprogrammedasasetbackthermo-
stat.Eachdayoftheweekhasfourprogramperiods.The
wallcontrolmenushavesomefeaturesthatmakeiteasyto
programgroupsofdaysalike.Thisminimizesthenumber
ofstepsrequiredtoprogramthewallcontrolformostap-
plications.
To access the programming screen, select Program from

toPM.
When the screen is rst entered the “Wake Hour” is high-
lighted. Use the UP/DOWN buttons to adjust the hour to
thedesiredhourandpressthebuttonunder“Set/Next”.The
highlightwillmoveto theminutesdisplay.Adjustthemin-
utesandpress“Set/Next.”Thehighlightisnowonthetem-
peraturevalue.Set thedesiredtemperaturefortheWake
periodandpress“Set/Next.”
ThehighlightisnowonthehourdisplayfortheDayperiod,
and the triangle has moved to the second line. Continue
programmingeachvalueasdesired.(Tostorethenalvalue
besuretopress“Set/Next”toreturnthehighlighttotherst
valueonthescreen.)
When you are nished making changes, or if you just en-
tered the programming screen to view the set program,
press “Done” or let the display return to the main screen
automatically.

In order for the setback function to work properly the wall
control must be aware of the current time. The SET DAY/
TIME screen is used to set the system clock. When the
screenisenteredthedayoftheweekishighlighted.
Use the UP/DOWN buttons to change this to the current
dayoftheweek.Pressthebuttonunder“Set/Next”andthe
highlightwillbemovedtothecurrenthoureld.Again,use
theUP/DOWNbuttonstosetthistothecurrenthour.Press
the“Set/Next”buttonagainandthecurrentminutedisplayis
highlighted.

TheTEMPERATURECALscreenisusedtocalibratethe
temperatureonthewallcontrol.Ifforsomereasonyoufeel
thewall control isnotaccurately reading thetemperature
you can calibrate it to a thermostat that you know is ac-
curate.PresstheUP/DOWNbuttonsto the desired tem-
perature.
c. Temp Differential
The TEMPERATURE DIFFERENTIAL screen is used to
change the set default temperature differential. This sets
howfarbelowthesetpointthewallcontrolallowstheroom
temperaturetofallbeforetheapplianceturnsbackon.Itis
usuallysetattimeofinstallation.
