The Raritan PM is a Web-enabled Power Distribution Unit (PDU) with
the ability to display the current locally and remotely over Ethernet. The
meter consumes less than 5 Watts of power and has a +/-2% accuracy*.
Some units support outlet-level metering, while others only support
unit-level metering. Check the description of your model for details.
* Accuracy of +/-2% with Full Scale 60Hz sine wave input.

Safety Guidelines
To avoid potentially fatal shock hazard and possible damage to Raritan
equipment:
SYSTEMS SHOULD ONLY BE CONFIGURED BY A COMPETENT
PERSON.
IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THIS EQUIPMENT IS CONNECTED TO
AN ELECTRICAL SUPPLY THAT HAS A PROTECTIVE GROUND
CONDUCTOR
WARNING: TO ISOLATE THIS EQUIPMENT DISCONNECT
POWER SUPPLY PLUG.
ATTENTION: AFIN D'ISOLER TOTALEMENT CET APPAREIL
DEBRANCHER FICHE D'ALIMENTATION.
CAUTION: USE ONLY IN DRY LOCATIONS.
ATTENTION: UTILISER UNIQUEMENT DANS DES
EMPLACEMENTS SECS.
Do not use a 2-wire power cord in any product configuration.
Test AC outlets at your computer and monitor for proper polarity
and grounding.
Use only with grounded outlets at both the computer and monitor.
When using a backup UPS, power the computer, monitor and
appliance off the supply.
Chapter 1 Introduction

Safety Guidelines
ii
The installation socket outlet used for the power supply to this
equipment must be installed near the equipment and must be easily
accessible.
When installing this product, it is essential that the distribution
circuit supplying the product is protected by a branch circuit
protection device with a maximum rating to suit the product
maximum rating.
This power distribution unit is intended for power supply provision
to equipment only. Secondary (Satellite) power strips shall not be
connected to the receptacles
This product has been designed to conform to the latest safety
requirements. In addition to compliance with standards for general
use, it has been factory configured for use in rack mounting
environments aiding the installer to provide systems compliant with
relevant standards.
Provide an earthing connection before the mains plug is connected to
the mains. And, when disconnecting the earthing connection, be sure
to disconnect after pulling out the mains plug from the mains.

3
•If the PDU is installed in a cabinet the ambient temperature of the
rack should be no greater than 45 degrees C.
•Install the PDU such that airflow required for safe operation of
equipment is not compromised.
•Mount the PDU so that uneven mechanical loading does not cause a
hazardous condition.
•Follow nameplate ratings when connecting equipment to the branch
circuit. Take into consideration the effect that overloading of the
circuits might have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring.
•The PDU relies on the building installation for protection from
overcurrent. A Listed or Certified overcurrent protection device is
required in the building installation. The Overcurrent protection
device should be sized according to the PDU's nameplate ratings and
the local electrical code.
•Maintain reliable earthing of rack-mount equipment. Particular
attention should be given to supply connections other than direct
connections to the branch circuit.
•PDU is intended for Restricted Access Location. Only service
personnel should install and access the PDU.
•For pluggable equipment, install the PDU so the input plug may be
disconnected for service.
•Caution: Disconnect all power cords before servicing.

Plug In Devices
You can now begin to plug your devices into the Raritan PM Power
Outlets. Be aware that all outlets are live and providing power. Once
plugged in, devices should be powered on individually to avoid
overloading the unit.
View Raritan PM Status
Once an IP address has been assigned to Raritan PM, you can type its IP
address into a browser window to bring up the Raritan PM status page.
Visit this page at any time to view the most up to date measurement of
each circuit or outlet (on units with outlet level monitoring).
You can also connect to Raritan PM at any time to reconfigure the PDU.
Chapter 4 Using the Raritan PM

SNMP/XML
10
SNMP/XML
In addition to the HTML based web pages, the Raritan PM PDU presents
its data via SNMP and an XML page. To use the PDU with SNMP Client
software, download the MIB from the link on the unit's web page and
import it into your SNMP manager. In addition, SNMP traps can be
utilized to monitor a user-set threshold for each circuit. The alarm
settings and SNMP server settings are located on the Configuration page
in the web interface.
The SNMP community is preset to 'public'. To change this, go to the
Raritan PM Configuration page, enter a new name in the SNMP
Community box and click Save Changes.
The XML page provides output that is easily parsed by both humans and
computers, and is useful for creating scripts to download and process
information from the unit automatically.
LED Display
Each Raritan PM PDU has a built-in 4-digit LED display. The display
scrolls through the most recent current measurement (in Amps) for each
circuit. The meter displays a circuit name, and then the measurement.
Momentarily press the Pause Scroll/IP Address Reset button on the
front of the PDU to pause the display on the current measurement.
While paused, the display will cycle back and forth between circuit name
and current reading every three seconds. Momentarily pressing the
'Pause Scroll/IP Address Reset' button again will skip ahead to the next
circuit. The display will begin to scroll again thirty (30) seconds after the
last button push.

Chapter 4: Using the Raritan PM
11
Viewing the IP Address from the LED Display
In the event that the IP address of the the Raritan PM is lost, it is possible
to view the currently configured IP address on the unit's built-in LED
display. or reset the IP address to the default.
To view the IP address, press and hold the Pause Scroll/IP Address
Reset button on the front on the PDU for 20 seconds. The screen will
switch from scrolling power data to a scrolling display of the IP address
starting with: c-IP (current IP address). The currently configured IP
address will then follow, one octet at a time, with a pause between each
octet. The IP address will be displayed twice before normal data
scrolling continues.
WARNING: If the Pause Scroll/IP Address Reset button is being held
while the second segment of the IP address is being displayed, the
unit's IP address will be reset. To prevent this, release the button as
soon as “c-IP” shows up on the display.
Reseting the IP Address from the LED Display
To reset the Raritan PM unit to its default IP address, press and hold the
Pause Scroll/IP Address Reset button on the front of the PDU for 30
seconds. After 20 seconds, the display will begin to show the current IP
address as mentioned above. After another 10 seconds, the display will
switch to scrolling d-IP 192.168.123.123.
This indicates that the IP address has been reset to its default value. The
display will resume its normal function after displaying the IP address
twice and the Pause Scroll/IP Address Reset is released.
Rebooting the Raritan PM from the LED Display
To reboot the Raritan PM, press and hold the Pause Scroll/IP Address
Reset button on the front on the PDU for 20 seconds. The screen will
switch from scrolling power data to a scrolling display of the IP address.
