General Description III
HEPA filter details:
The illustration below shows a high-performance H11 HEPA filter in assembled condition.
Please take notice of the three-stage configuration:
Stage 1 (C): filter mat, stage 2 (D): z-line filter, stage 3 (G): separator system

One of the purpose of the preliminary
filter mat on the air intake side of
UC devices is the initial filter effect. At the
same time, it generates additional air
resistance in the air intake area, i.e. where
the contaminated aerosol air enters. This
distributes the flow of air evenly across the
whole raw gas side of the filter and thus
generates an even laminar flow of air.
The Z-line preliminary filter system
has a zigzag configuration, giving it
a much larger filter surface area than if a
flat filter mat were used.
Advantage 1: Increased standing time
thanks to greater surface area, as in the
particulate filter package as well.
Advantage 2: Reduced air resistance
because of the large number of air pores
which are smaller than the coarse aerosols
and dust particles. Preliminary filtration is
extremely important as it increases the service
time of the particulate filter as the main filter.
There is what is known as an
expansion chamber between the
Z-line filter system and the final particulate
filter package. Once again, the flow of
air is distributed evenly. The pre-filtered
aerosol emulsion contamination therefore
has no option to impact a single point on
the particulate filter medium. The distribution
and depth of penetration across the
particulate filter material is constant.
