4. TROUBLESHOOTING
4.1 PROGRAM DOWNLOAD
4.1.1 OVERVIEW
Here are some important points to keep in mind when down oading software:
• If an error interrupts down oad processing, the machine cannot operate norma y
with the program software on y partia y down oaded.
• When down oad processing execution starts, “Down oading…” is disp ayed and
when down oading has comp eted successfu y, the message is c eared.
• If the down oad is interrupted when the “Down oading …” message is disp ayed,
the machine does not attempt a re-try.
• The program that down oads firmware from an SD card is part of the GW
contro er software. If down oading this software is interrupted, the program
stored in the machine may be corrupted. Because of this, it may not be possib e
to restart the down oading program. (In addition, if the GW contro er software
cannot be down oaded, other software on other SD cards cannot be
down oaded.) However, it may be possib e to restart the program without
rep acing the board by setting DIP SW 1 on the contro er to ON, and re-starting.
4.1.2 RECOVERY METHODS
When an error occurs during down oading, an error code is disp ayed on the
operation pane .
• If the down oad procedure can be re-started, re-start the down oad procedure.
• If the down oad procedure cannot be down oaded for other than the GW
contro er, rep ace the board where the down oaded program is stored.
• If the down oad procedure cannot be down oaded for the GW contro er, set DIP
SW 1 to ON. Power the machine off and on to start the down oading program.
After down oading has comp eted, set the DIP SW to OFF then power the
machine off and on again.

4.1.4 PAPER JAM CODES
When a jam occurs, a graphic i ustration of the main machine, finisher, book et
finisher, Z-fo d unit, cover interposer tray, LCT, and bypass tray appears on the
operation pane screen.
The ocation of the jammed paper becomes it (does not f ash) in the graphic
i ustration.
A jam code is disp ayed on the operation pane to indicate the cause and ocation
of the jam. For more detai s, p ease refer to the tab es on the fo owing pages.
Note concerning the tables
• Late: Paper shou d be at the sensor, but it is not.
• Lag: There shou d be no paper at the sensor, but paper is present.

4.2 SERVICE CALL CONDITIONS
4.2.1 SERVICE MODE LOCK/UNLOCK
At ocations where the machine contains sensitive data, the customer engineer
cannot operate the machine unti the Administrator turns the service mode ock off.
This function makes sure that work on the machine is a ways done with the
permission of the Administrator.
1. If you cannot go into the SP mode, ask the Administrator to og in with the
Operator Too and then set “Service Mode Lock” to OFF. After he or she ogs
in:
Operator Too s > System Settings > Administrator Too s > Service Mode Lock
> OFF
• This un ocks the machine and ets you get access to a the SP codes.
• The CE can do servicing on the machine and turn the machine off and on. It
is not necessary to ask the Administrator to og in again each time the
machine is turned on.
2. If you must use the printer bit switches, go into the SP mode and set SP 5169
to “1”.
3. After machine servicing is comp eted:
• Change SP 5169 from “1” to “0”.
• Turn the machine off and on. Te the administrator that you comp eted
servicing the machine.
• The Administrator wi then set the “Service Mode Lock” to ON.

4.2.2 SERIES SERVICE CALL CONDITIONS

4.2. SC CODE DESCRIPTIONS
Important
• If a prob em concerns a circuit board, disconnect and reconnect the connectors
and then test the machine. Often a oose or disconnected harness is the cause of
the prob em. A ways do this before you decide to rep ace the PCB.
• If a motor ock error occurs, check the mechanica oad before you decide to
rep ace the motor or sensors.
• When a Leve “A” or “B” SC occurs whi e in an SP mode, the machine cannot
disp ay the SC number. If this occurs, check the SC number after eaving the SP
mode.
• If you set SP 5875 to ‘on’, the machine reboots automatica y when the machine
issues a Leve “B&D” SC code.
•
CAUTION
Never turn off the main power switch when the power LED is lit or flashing.
To avoid damaging the hard disk or memory, press the operation switch to
switch the power off, wait for the power LED to go off, and then switch the
main power switch off.
NOTE: The main power LED ( ) ights or f ashes whi e the p aten cover or
ARDF is open, whi e the main machine is communicating with a facsimi e
or the network server, or whi e the machine is accessing the hard disk or
memory for reading or writing data.
