Mainsoperation
1. Place your radio on a flat surface.
2. PlugthemainsleadintotheMainssocketlocatedontherearofyour
radio ensuring that the plug is pushed fully into the socket.
3. Plug the other end into a wall socket and switch on. The Mains
indicator will light up indicating that the radio is connected to the
mains supply.

Battery operation
1. Remove the Battery cover on the rear of your radio by pushing the
catches in the direction of the arrows.
2. Insert two LR03 (AAA size) batteries into the small spaces in the
battery compartment. Insert four LR14 (C size) batteries into the
remaining spaces in the compartment. Take care to ensure all
batteries are inserted with the correct polarity as shown inside the
batterycompartment.Replace thebatterycover.
note : the two LR03 batteries provide power for the clock/
memory backup and must be fitted at all times.
3. Reduced power, distortion, and a ‘stuttering’ sound are all signs that
thebatteries mayneedreplacing. Iftheradio isnottobeusedforany
extended period of time it is recommended that the batteries are
removedfromtheradio.
We would recommend for economy, that the R9905 is used on the
mains whenever possible with battery operation for occasional or
stand-byuseonly.

Setting the clock time
1. Whenfirstconnectedtomainsorbatteriesthedisplaywillshow"0:00"
2. Hold down theMode button until the display begins to flash.
3. Setthehoursusingthe- button andtheminutesusingthe+button.
4. Press the Mode button to store the time.
Note: The clock uses the 24 hour system e.g. 2:00pm is shown as 14:00
Setting the alarm time
1. Press and release the Mode button. The current alarm time and a
flashing alarm symbol will appear in the display.
2. Pressandholddown theMode buttonuntil thealarmtimeflashes in
the display.
3. Setthehoursusingthe- button andtheminutesusingthe+button.
4. Press the Mode button to store the alarm time.

Operating your radio - search tuning
1. Switch on your radio by pressing thePower button.
2. SettheWavebandswitch totherequiredwaveband.Thewaveband
selectedwillappearinthedisplay.OnFM fullyextendtheTelescopic
aerial. On MW and LW rotate your radio for best reception.
3. Press and hold down either the Tuning + or - buttons until the
frequencyinthedisplaybeginstochangerapidly.Releasethebutton.
4. Yourradiowillscantheselectedwaveband,stoppingeachtimeitfinds
a station of sufficient strength. Adust the Volume control to the
requiredlevel.
5. Tosearchforadditionalstationsrepeattheaboveprocedure.Search
tuning may be stopped by a single press on either the Tuning + or -
buttons.
6. Press thePower buttonto turn off your radio.

frequencyupordown.Thefrequencystepsare:-FM50kHz, MW9kHz
and LW 1kHz. Adust the Volume control to the required level.

Pre-setting stations
Youmaystoreuptofivedifferentstationsoneachofthethreewavebands
giving a total of 15 preset stations.
1. Switch on your radio using thePower button.
2. SelectthedesiredwavebandusingtheWavebandswitch.
3. Tune into the required station using one of the tuning methods
previouslydescribed.
4. Press and release the Memo button a flashing 'M' will appear in the
display.
5. Whilstthe'M'isflashingpressoneofthePresetbuttonsunderwhich
you wish to store the station.
6. Press and release theMemo buttonto store the station. The preset
number will now appear alongside the 'M' in the display.
7. Repeat the above proceedure for the remaining presets.
8. Press the Power button to turn off your radio.
Note:Pre-settingofstationscanonlybecarriedoutwhilstthe'M'isflashing
in the display (5 seconds).

Recalling a preset station
1. Switch on your radio using thePower button.
2. SelectthedesiredwavebandusingtheWavebandswitch.
3. Press one of thePreset buttons to recall the station or press either
the Memo Up or Down buttons to step through the available
stations.

1. Your radio provides an automatic last station memory function. This
function recalls the station that was playing when the radio was
switchedoff.

Wake to radio
1. Set the alarm time as previously described.
2. Tune to the required station and set theVolume control to the level
at which you wish to wake.
3. RepeatedlypressandreleasetheAlarmbuttonuntilthe symbol
appears in the display. Set the Alarm mode button to the 'down'
position.
4. At the preselected time the radio will turn on. The radio will switch off
automaticallyafter90minutes.Thealarmmaybeturnedofffor24hours
by pressing thePower button.
5. To permanently cancel the alarm repeatedly press and release the
Alarm button until the symbol is removed from the display.

1. Set the alarm time as previously described.
2. RepeatedlypressandreleasetheAlarmbuttonuntilthe symbol
appearsinthedisplay.SettheAlarmmodebuttontothe'up'position.
3. Thebuzzerwillsoundatthepreselectedtime.Theradiowillswitchoff

by pressing thePower button.

Snooze control
1. The radio or buzzer alarm can be silenced for 5 minutes by pressing
the Snooze button. This sequence can be repeated during the 90
minutealarmperiod.

The radio can be set to turn off after a preset time has elapsed.
1. PressandholddowntheSleepbuttonuntilthedesiredtimeisreached
(maximum90minutesin10minutesteps).Theradiowillswitchoffafter
the sleep time has elapsed.
2. Tocancelthesleepfunctionbeforethepresettimehasexpired,press
thePower button.
Displaybacklight
1. Press and hold down theLight button to illuminate the display.

Lock Switch
TheLockswitchlocatedontheundersideofyourradioisusedtoprevent
unintentionaloperation.
1. Slide the Lock switch to the right-hand 'locked' position, the
symbolwillappearinthedisplay.ThePower andallotherbuttonswill
be disabled. This will prevent accidental operation when the radio is
packedina suitcase.ToreleasetheLockswitch move theswitchto
the left-hand 'unlocked' position, the symbol will be removed
from the display.

Donotallowthisradio tobeexposedtowater,steamorsand.Donotleave
yourradiowhereexcessiveheatcouldcausedamagesuchasinaparked
car where the heat from the sun can build up even though the outside
temperaturemaynotseemtoohigh.Itis recommendedthat theFMband
be used where ever possible as better results in terms of quality and
freedomfrom interferencewillusuallybeobtainedthanon theMWorLW
bands.
Headphones
1. A Headphone Socket (3.5mm) located on the left hand end of your
radio is provided for use with either headphones or an earpiece.
Inserting the headphone plug automatically mutes the internal loud-
speaker.
