CONVERSION PROCEDURES
pg 3
Conversion from Roland Eco-Sol Max Ink to ElevenTen Color R-1121
Series Ink
The following conversion procedure is designed to convert your Roland printer from the Roland Eco-
Sol Max inkset to the ElevenTen Color R-1121 Series inkset. This procedure can be used for either a
CMYKx3 or CMYKLcLm x 2 ink configuration as long as the ElevenTen Color inkset matches the configu-
ration that is currently installed. The ElevenTen Color R-1121 Series inkset has been specifically formu-
lated to be a fully compatible color match, thereby eliminating the need to flush the printer with cleaning
solution or generate new ICC profiles.
Failure to implement this procedure as detailed in this document may cause damage to your printer.
ElevenTen Color cannot be held responsible for damage caused by the improper implementation of this
procedure. If any further information is required about which procedure you need to perform, please con-
tact ElevenTen Color Technical Support for further information or instructions.
Pictorial Signs
Pictorial Signs are used as a visual reference to quickly inform users of certain safe practices that must be
carried out or to warn of pending danger.
All personnel mixing and handling these products must wear gloves and eye protection.
Clean up spills immediately. If ink does come in contact with skin, wipe ink off with a clean,
dry, absorbent cloth (do not use solvent or thinner). Wash the affected area with soap and
water. Consult the ElevenTen Color R-1121 Series Material Safety Data Sheet for further
instructions and warnings.

CONVERSION PROCEDURES
REQUIREMENTS
The following procedures require a full set of ElevenTen Color R-1121 Series Ink
cartridges to accommodate your printer’s ink configuration (i.e. 2xCMYKLcLm or
3xCMYK.)
STEP 1
Before commencing with the ink conversion it is required that a Test Pattern print be obtained. (The
procedure for performing this test is in Appendix 1). No warranty dispute regarding the conversion can
be verified if a pre-conversion Test Pattern print is not supplied. If several nozzles are permanently
missing even after several cleans, you can proceed as long as the customer agrees to sign a disclaimer
stating the condition of the Test Pattern print before the conversion. A copy of the disclaimer is located in
Appendix 3 of this conversion procedure.
STEP 2
Next, remove each Roland EcoMax Cartridge one-by-one, replacing each color
with the corresponding ElevenTen Color R-1121 Series ink cartridge. Take care
that the color removed is replaced with the identical color from the ElevenTen Color
R-1121 Series ink cartridge.

!Empty the waste bottle before starting this procedure. The waste bottle is usually located on the
underside of the printer. Dispose of the ink safely, as guided in your Roland user manual. (Consult
your user manual if you are unsure of the waste tank location.) For more information on proper
disposal of cartridges and/or ink waste please contact your local, county or state regulatory agency.
!It is imperative that the parts for your Roland printer are compatible with solvent ink before you
proceed with the ink conversion procedure. Appendix 2 describes how to check your printer’s
parts for solvent ink compatibility. Failure to confirm that you have the compatible parts in your
Roland printer before proceeding may cause irreparable damage to your printer.

STEP 3
Next, perform 3 Powerful Head Cleaning functions. (The procedure for performing this function is described
in Appendix 1). This will automatically replace the Roland EcoMax inks with your new ElevenTen Color
R-1121 Series inkset by charging the ink lines.
You have almost completed the conversion.
STEP 4
When the last Powerful Head Cleaning has finished, return to the main screen by pressing the [ ] key 3
times.
Perform a Test Pattern print and compare it against the Test Pattern print previously printed with the Roland
EcoMax inkset.
If there are nozzles missing (which were present before the ink conversion procedure) perform a normal
head clean. (The procedure to perform a normal head clean is described in Appendix 1).
Again, perform a Test Pattern print. Repeat this procedure until all the nozzles are restored.
If you fail to restore any nozzles lost during the conversion procedure, contact ElevenTen Color Technical
Support for further instruction and guidance.
Do not remove the cartridges from the printer before they are empty. As with the OEM cartridges,
removing and replacing the cartridges repeatedly may allow ink to leak into the printer.
!Even though the Roland printer has been converted to use ElevenTen Color R-1121 Series Inkset,
general maintenance procedures must still be carried out on the printer as documented in your
Roland user manual. Failure to do so may cause irreparable damage to your printer. There is a guide
for preventative maintenance procedures in Appendix 1.

Preventative Maintenance Measures
Gently wipe down around the cap station and the wiper arm, removing any dried ink which may
contaminate the new inkset. Using a swab and some of the ElevenTen Color R-1121 Series Cleaning
solution, gently wipe down the area around the cap station, followed by wiping down the wiper blade
and underneath the carriage on the fascia of the printheads. Dispose of any gloves, swabs and empty
cartridges used during the conversion in a proper manner.

Solvent-Compatible Parts for Roland Printers
Before switching your Roland printer to the ElevenTen Color R-1121 Series inkset, care needs to be taken
that the parts used in your printer are solvent compatible. In both cases there are parts available that are
not solvent compatible and would result in damage to the part or to the printer.
Print Heads
Print heads for solvent based inks differ from those of water based ink by the kind of gasket that is used
inbetween the print head base and the spigot. The pictures below show the different gaskets.
Do NOT use a print head with the configuration on the right. The gasket assembly should not have a plas-
tic plate that covers the print head’s printed circuit board.
Solvent compatibility can also be determined by looking at the label placed
under the end of the plastic lug of the print head. This is the white label that
contains head rank information for the print head. Solvent compatible print
heads have dots after the first 15 characters of the code, while the water
based print heads contain no dots and all alpha-numeric characters. Labels
must contain dots to be solvent compatible. Labels with only alpha-numeric
characters are not compatible.
Pumps and Tubing
There are two types of pumps available from Roland. The solvent compatible pumps are easily identified
by the color of the tubes leading in to and out of the pump. Pumps with white or off-white tubes are NOT
solvent compatible and should not be used. Pumps with black tubes are solvent compatible and may be
used.
