1. About the User's Manuals for This Machine
Please read this document and the included “SP-300 User's Manual”.
This document is the user's manual for the SP-300S. It describes the differences from the SP-300, including prepara-
tions to make before printing and the procedures for printing using the dedicated inks and media.
Safety cautions and information such as detailed operation procedures are given in the “SP-300 User's Manual”. When
using this machine, refer also to the “SP-300 User's Manual”.
For information on how to install and set up the Windows driver and make settings for Roland COLORIP, refer also to
the “SP-300 Windows Driver Guide” and the “Roland COLORIP Quick Start Guide”.

2. Important Notes on Usage
Limitations of the SP-300S (Sublimation-ink Model)
Type of Usable Media Clamps
Use the long media clamps to secure the dedicated sublimation-ink media in place.
The default setting for the [MEDIA CLAMP] menu item is [LONG]. When the [MEDIA CLAMP] menu item is set to
[LONG], media-cutoff operations cannot be performed.
Limitations for Crop Marks
When dedicated inks are used in combination with dedicated media, crop marks cannot be detected automatically.
When using crop marks, perform alignment manually.
Cutting Features
The dedicated media is not suited to cutting.
Using the Printing Heater and Dryer
The printing heater and dryer are set to [OFF] by default.
Attempting to heat dedicated media by printing heater and dryer may cause it to warp and strike the printing heads,
resulting in malfunction.
The [FULL WIDTH S] Menu Item
The default setting for the [FULLWIDTH S] menu item is [DISABLE]. This makes the printing carriage move during
printing over a distance determined by the range of the printing data.
Cleaning Cartridges
The “SP-300 User's Manual” describes SOL INK cleaning cartridges, but these cannot be used by the SP-300S (subli-
mation-ink model).
When relocation of the machine or the like makes head cleaning necessary, be sure to use "Cleaning liquid" (for water-
soluble) use from Roland DG Corp. (sold separately).

Usable Inks and Media
Use only genuine Roland DG Corp. inks and media.
Ink : Sublimation ink cartridges
Product codes : SBL-CY (cyan), SBL-MG (magenta), SBL-YE (yellow), and SBL-BK (black)
Media : Sublimation-ink media
Product codes : SHT-680
Sublimation inks are not flammable.
Never ingest the inks or allow them to come into contact with the eyes.
Important Notes on Transfer Operations
Important Note on the Handling of Completed Articles
• Duplication of a copyrighted work without the permission of the copyright-holder for any purpose other than personal
enjoyment is prohibited by law. Roland DG Corp. assumes no liability for any violation of a third-party copyright by
any article created using this product.
Important Notes on the Handling of Transfer Media
• Place unused transfer media in individual pouches or boxes, and store away from high temperatures, high humidity,
and direct sunlight.
• Use printed transfer media as soon as possible. Favorable transfer results may not be obtained if the media is allowed
to stand for a long time without transfer.
• Never stack printed transfer media in a high-temperature location. Discoloration due to color bleed may occur.
Important Notes for After Transfer
• In the event that wearing a transferred T-shirt or the like results in skin irritation, stop wearing the article.
• Ironing the transfer area may cause color bleed.
• Never stack transferred fabrics, T-shirts, or the like in a high-temperature location. Discoloration due to color bleed
may occur.

3. Assembling and Installing
The procedures for assembling and installing this machine differ in some ways from those for the SP-300. The proce-
dures corresponding to the following sections in the “SP-300 User's Manual” are different.
•"1-3 Assembling and Installing" "Step 6 : Change the Settings for the Language and Unit of Measurement,
and Check the Voltage Settings"
•"1-3 Assembling and Installing" "Step 7 : Fill Ink"
Be sure to carry out these operations by following the procedures described below.
Steps 1 Through 5
In the “SP-300 User's Manual”, go to "1-3 Assembling and Installing" and carry out the operations in the procedures
from "Step 1: Assemble the Stand" through "Step 5: Set the Voltage Switches."
Step 6 : Change the Settings for the Language and Unit of Measurement, and Check the Voltage Settings
This is different from the procedure in the “SP-300 User's Manual”. Be sure to carry out this operation by following the
procedure below.

Hold down the [ ] key and the [CUT CONFIG]
key and switch on the main power switch.
The screen shown in the figure appears.

Press the [ENTER] key.
The sub power is switched off.

Hold down the [MENU] key and press the
[POWER] key.
The sub power is switched on.
The screen in the figure appears on the display.

Use the [ ] key to select [ENGLISH], then
press the [ENTER] key.
Make sure the text shown on the display is in English.

Follow the steps below to set the voltage switches, then start over from the beginning.
1. Press the [POWER] key to switch off the sub power.
2. Switch off the main power switch.
3. Refer to "Step 5 : Set the Voltage Switches," and make the settings for the voltage switches.

This is different from the procedure in the “SP-300 User's Manual”. Be sure to carry out this operation by following the
procedure below.

When check the voltage settings are finished,
the screen shown in the figure appears.
Press the [ENTER] key.

Make sure the drain bottle is installed at the
bottomofthemachine, then press the [ENTER]
key.

Be sure to examine the label on the ink-car-
tridge port and make sure the slot where it is to
be inserted.

Steps 8 Through 10
In the “SP-300 User's Manual”, go to "1-3 Assembling and Installing" and carry out the operations in the procedures
from "Step 8: Match the Machine to the Environment Where Installed" through "Step 10: Connect to the Computer."
Attaching the Model Name Label
Affix the included model name label on the "SP-300" label at the location shown in the figure.

4. Installing the Windows Driver
Perform installation using the "SP-300 Sublimation CD-ROM". To install, follow the procedure in the “SP-300 Win-
dows Driver Guide”.
When installing, give attention to the following points.
• Use the "SP-300 Sublimation CD-ROM".
• Wherever "SP-300" appears in the manual, read "SP-300S". For all model names, that you are asked to
select, choose "SP-300S".

5. Roland COLORIP Settings
InstallingandSetting UptheDedicated "ImageConfiguration" Data
You install and set up Roland COLORIP, then install the dedicated settings file for this machine. This is necessary for
performing output on the machine. Be sure to install it.

Followtheinstructionsinthe“RolandCOLORIP
Quick Start Guide” to install and set up Roland
COLORIP.
Use the Roland COLORIP CD-ROM to do this.

Next, install the dedicated Image configuration
data.
Insert the "Roland Sublimation CD-ROM" into
the CD-ROM drive.

Display the "Roland Sublimation CD-ROM",
then open the [COLORIP Files] folder.

Run [imageConfigInstaller] (imageConfig
Installer.exe).

Verify the destination for installing. Make sure
the folder where COLORIP is installed is se-
lected, then click [OK].

6. Transfer Conditions
Transferable Materials
Use commercially available materials designated as usable for sublimation transfer.
The following items cannot be used for transfer.
• 100% cotton fabric
• Materials not processed for sublimation-transfer use
Successful transfer is affected by a wide variety of factors, including the type of material and the pressing method.
Before use, be sure to carry out a test transfer ahead of time to make sure that satisfactory quality can be obtained.
What to Have on Hand
Sublimation Transfer Press
Prepare a press suited to the material.
Never use a household iron or the like. Heat is not applied evenly, which may result in faulty transfer, color loss, or
bleeding.
Heat-resistant Tape
You use this to fasten the transfer media to the material. Use commercially available heat-resistant tape.
Paper to Prevent Back Bleed-through
Back bleed-through may occur when you perform transfer onto fabric. To prevent back bleed-through, have on hand
some silicone- or Teflon-treated paper (commercially available cooking paper can also be substituted).
Regular paper (To Prevent Color Bleed)
Color bleed may occur, when you perform transfer. To prevent color bleed to the press, prepare commercially available
copier paper or the loke. Use the regular paper larger than transfer media.

6. Transfer Conditions
Transfer Conditions
The pressing time, temperature, and pressure vary according to the transfer material and the press that you're using. Use
the following chart as a guide when you perform transfer. For detailed information, refer to the documentation for the
press and the transfer material.
Also, be sure to carry out a test transfer ahead of time to make sure that satisfactory quality can be obtained.
*1 : Use only materials designed for sublimation-transfer use.
*2 : If you're using a pneumatic press, use an air pressure of 0.27 Mpa (approx. 2.8 kgf/cm2 (40 psi)) as a general guide.

To eliminate humidity and moisture, perform
pre-pressing at 200 ºC (392 ºF) for 5 seconds
before performing transfer.
Also, to prevent back bleed-through, enclose
a Teflon sheet in the inner side of the fabric
when you perform transfer.

7. How to Perform Transfer
Preparing the Data
Prepare mirror-image data for transfer use.
You can use Roland COLORIP to make a mirror image of
the original. Click the [Size] tab, then select the [Mirror]
check box. The data for the original image is reversed.
Transfer Procedure
1
Press the printed surface of the transfer media
tightly against the materia, securing the media
in place with heat-resistant tape.
2
Put the regular paper on the transfer media.

Use the press to perform pressing.
4
When pressing ends, immediately remove the
transfer media.
Remove the transfer media immediately. Allowing it to
stand may blur the transfer image.
Safety Cautions
• When using the press, be very careful to avoid burns or fire.
• Carefully read the documentation for the press you're using and use the press correctly.
• Work in a well-ventilated location. The press may produce smoke or odor.
