SAFETY
BEGINS
WITH YOU!
READ MANUAL THOROUGHLY!
This manual contains the safety precautions
and recommended assembly and operation
techniques outlined by the manufacturer. Each
Rookie Sidekick Portable Hose Roller has been
designed and constructed to minimize risk of
injury whenever possible, however, improper
use and/or unfamiliarity with recommended
procedures can result in serious injury.

1 - All Rookie Sidekick models
can be mounted on an ATV rack,
a receiver hitch, or a optional
portable stand.
RECEIVER HITCH:
Use adaptor (a) (supplied).
Mount SideKick to receiver
hitch, making sure retaining
pins(b) are in place.
The adapter between the
Sidekick and the receiver hitch
can be turned so that it raises 6”,
lowers 6”, or makes the Sidekick
level.

3a - Gas model - Remove foot
pedal (f) from holder. Place foot
pedal on at surface near the
hose guide/guard on either side
of roller, making sure cable is
not twisted or kinked.
3b - Electric models - Foot
pedal (g) is stored in holder
within frame. Take out pedal
and place on at surface near the
hose guide/guard on either side
of roller, making sure the hose is
not kinked.
On 110 volt AC, the end of
the tubing opposite the foot
pedal can now be connected
by pushing it into the barbed
receptor (h) on the box mounted
on the motor of the 110 volt
motor.

4 - Fueling the Gas model
Fuel gas engine model with
unleaded fuel. Do not ll above
the tank shoulder. IF ENGINE
HAS BEEN RUNNING
ALLOW IT TO COOL
BEFORE REFUELING.
The fuel valve lever must be in
the ON position for the engine
to run. Turn switch on engine to
ON position. Start the engine by
pulling the starter grip until you
feel resistance, then pull briskly.
Return the starter grip gently.
The Gas Sidekick is now ready
to operate- see hose rolling
instructions (page 8).
BE SURE FUEL SWITCH
IS TURNED TO THE
OFF POSITION WHILE
TRANSPORTING THE
SIDEKICK.

Refer to Honda Operators
Manual (included with your
Sidekick) for proper fuel and oil
specications.
WARNING! - DO NOT
OPERATE ON AN INCLINE
OF MORE THAN 20
DEGREES. OIL ALERT WILL
SHUT DOWN ENGINE.
5a - Connecting power to
110 volt - For 110 volt electric
models always use ground
default plug-in to connect cord.

The electric Sidekick is now
ready to operate.
6a - Gas Model - Turn
switch located on engine to
ON position. Start engine
by pulling the starter grip
until you feel resistance,
then pull briskly. Return the
starter grip gently. Operate
with the foot pedal.
6b - Electric Models -
110 volt is ready to operate
with foot pedal once power
source has been connected.
(see previous page for
connecting instructions).

CLEAR OF MOVING
PARTS BEFORE
OPERATING FOOT
PEDAL.
7 - Position male end of
hose between mandrel pins
so that it remains in place
without the use of hands.

8 - Apply pressure to foot
control holding hose with
both hands allowing it to slide
through hands, while guiding
the hose onto the mandrel.
9 - Allow the rst few coils to
roll on loosely, and the balance
to roll tightly. This will allow
easy removal of the completed
roll.
10 - Controlling the speed
of the rolling process, with
foot control, will prevent risk
of injury to the operator, as
the female end of the hose
approaches.
11 - To stop the rolling process-
Remove foot pressure on pedal
and/or turn power switch to off
position. Disconnect electric
units from power source.
12 - On gas engine models turn
fuel valve lever to off position
to prevent fuel leakage when
moving hose roller.

STORAGE & MAINTENANCE

13 - When job is complete,
unplug from power source or
turn off switch on engine.
Gas Model - coil cable and
secure foot pedal to framework
with pin.
Electric Models - Disconnect
foot pedal, coil tubing and
secure to framework.
ON ALL MODELS -
Periodically check for loosened
nuts and screws. Tighten as
needed.
Oil in Gearbox Speed-reducer
should be checked monthly
(more often under severe
conditions). Add or replace oil
with SHC 634 Synthetic Gear
Oil or 80-90 Weight Petroleum
Oil.
