SCARAB M6 - Abbreviated Operating Instructions
TOENTERSWEEPMODE
VEHICLEENGINERUNNING.AIRTANKSFULL.
1. PresstheStartSwitchonthemainpaneltostarttheauxiliaryengineandentersweepmode.
2. Preselecttherequiredsweepingcombination.Aseachitemisselectedthecorresponding
symbolontheLCDmonitorwillchangeasillustratedbelow.Startthesuctionfan.
3. Engageasuitablegearratioandreleasetheclutchtocommencesweeping.
WHENREVERSING
1. Whenreversegearisselected,allsweepinggearwillautomaticallystopandretract.
2. Whenreverseisdeselected,allactivesweepingequipmentwillredeploy.
LEAVINGSWEEPMODE
1. Movethemulti‐functionswitchforwardtotheOFFpositiontostopandretractallactive
sweepingequipment.
2. Switchoffthesuctionfan.
REARDOOR&HOPPERCONTROLS
Thehoppersafetypropmustalwaysbedeployedwhenworkingbeneatharaisedhopper.
Reardoorsafetypropmustbedeployedandwhenworkingbeneathopenreardoor.
DISCHARGINGTHEPAYLOAD(TIPPING)
1. Simultaneouslypressthesafetyinterlockanddooropenswitch,untilthedoorisfullyopen.
2. Simultaneouslypressthesafetyinterlockandhopperraiseswitch,untilthehopperisfully
raised.
Beforeloweringthehopper,ensurethattheareabelowitisclear.Stowthehopperprop.
3. Simultaneouslypressthesafetyinterlockandhopperdownswitch,untilthehopperisfully
down.
Beforeclosingthereardoor,ensureallpersonnelareclearoftheimmediateareaandthat
thedoorsealandseal‐matingfaceareclean.Stowthereardoorprop.
4. Simultaneouslypressthesafetyinterlockanddoorcloseswitch,untilthedoorisfullyclosed.
Beforestoppingtheauxiliaryengine,allowittoidleforatleast2minutestoallowtheturbo‐
chargertocooldown.
Thisdocumentisdesignedasaquickreferenceguide,toallowtheoperatortodrivethe
vehicleinSweepModeandoperatethebasiccontrols.Itdoesnotconstitutethefulloperating
instructions.

•Onlytrainedoperativesshouldbeallowedtodriveorworkonthismachine.
•Neverworkunderaraisedhopperorreardoorwithouttheappropriatesafetypropinposition.
•Donotdrivethevehiclewiththehopperraised.TheredwarningsymbolontheLCDmonitorremainsilluminateduntilthehopperis
fullydown.
•Beforeworkingonthevehicleensurethatitisonfirm,levelground,applythehandbrake,stoptheengineandremovetheignitionkey.
•Beforeraisingthehopperoropeningthereardoor,ensurethatthereissufficientclearanceanditissafetodoso.
•Beforestartingtheauxiliaryengine,ensurethatallcontrolsareswitchedoffandthevehicle’sgearboxisinneutral.
•Beforedrivingthevehicle,ensurethatallvehiclecheckshavebeencarriedoutandthatallequipmentisstowedandthatthebrush(es)
areraised.
•Donotoverloadthehopper.
•Highpressurewatercanbedangerous,alwayswearsuitableeyeprotectionwhenoperatingthehighpressurewaterpumpnadwhen
usingthelance.Donotdirectthewaterjetatotherpersons.Bewareofelectricalinstallationsonpublicbuildingsandlamppostsetc.
andalwaysexiceseextremecautioninpublicplaces.
•Thesuctionfanisanextremelyheavyrotatingmass.Vibrationscomingfromthesuctionfanmustbeinvestigated,thecause
determinedandrectifiedimmediately.
•Whenworkingonthesuctionfan.Neverattempttosloworstopthefanbyusingthehandsorbyinsertinganyitemintothefan
chamber,evenatlowspeed.Failuretocomplycanresultinseriousinjury.
•Whenoperatingthemachineinanymode,alwaysbeawareofobjectsandpeopleintheimmediatevicinity,especiallytherearofthe
machinewhenreversing.
•Whateverthesituation,rememberthattherulesoftrafficandroadsafetymustbeobserved.
•Whileoperatingthismachinethesafetyandwellbeingofotherpeoplearethesoleresponsibilityoftheoperator.
CAUTIONS
Ifthesuctionfanvibrates,itshouldbecleanedimmediately(RefertotheOperatingManual).Prolongedvibrationwillresultindamageto
thefan,bearingsand,inextremecases,thehopper.
Intheeventofahydraulicleak,stoptheauxiliaryengineandinvestigate.
Thehighandlowpressurewaterpumpsmustneverbepermittedtorundryotherwisethesealsinthepumpwillbedamaged.
Donotdirectthehighpressurejetatpaintworkorelectricalconnectionsonthevehicle.
ROUTINEDAILYMAINTENANCE
1. Checkthevehicle’sgeneralcondition(Including:‐Tyres,lightsandallfluidlevels)inaccordancewiththechassismanufacturers’
recommendations.
2. Checkhydraulicoillevel.(Note:‐Iftheoillevelisnotmaintained,thesweepingpanelwillautomaticallyshutdownuntiltheoilleveliscorrect.)
3. Checktheconditionofthebrushesandremoveanyitemssuchasstringthatmaybeentangled.
4. Checkgroundclearanceofsuctionrubberflaps,20mmfront/30mmrearandsidearesuitableclearances,suctionpowercanbelostifclearance
areincorrectbutitispossibletoslightlyvarythesesettingstobettersuitspecificsweepingconditionsaccordingtotheoperator’sexperience.
5. Checkwatersprayjetsforblockages.
6. Cleantheoilcoolerandcheckthatcoolingfanfunctions(Note:‐Iffitted,redwarninglightandbuzzerwilloperatewhenthemaxtemperature
isreached).
7. Washvehicle,ensuringthatthesuctionfanandhopperfilterscreenarecleaned.
8. Lubricatebrushlinks,pivotpointsandwidesweepbearings.
9. Removeandcleanwaterstrainerelements.
10. Alwaysleavethevehiclewithreardoorslightlyopentoallowwatertodrainout.
11. Infrostyweather,drainpumpsandtanks,removewaterstrainerelements,turnonallwatersprays.
