Thefundamental prerequisiteforthesafe handlingofthis device
andits troublefreeoperationisthe knowledgeofthe basicsafety
noticesand safetyinstructions.TheseOperating Instructions
containthe mostimportantnoticesfor thesafeoperation ofthe
device.These OperatingInstructions,inparticularthesafety
notices,must beobservedby anyperson whoworkswith
thedevice.
Inaddition, thelocallyvalid rulesandregulations fortheprevention
ofaccidents mustbecomplied with.
Therepresentations withintheOperatingInstructions arenottrue
toscale.
Thedimensions givenarenotbinding.
Generalindications ofdirection,such asFRONT,REAR, RIGHT,
LEFTapply whenviewingthe frontofthedevice.
0.1 Warranty and Liability
Inprinciple, thesupplyof thedeviceis subjectto our”General
Conditionsof SaleandDelivery”.These havebeenprovided tothe
operatingcompanyon conclusionofthe contract,atthelatest.
Warranty:
-Schmidt tensionmetersare warrantedfor 12months.
Partssubject towear,electronic componentsandmeasuring
springsare notcovered by thewarranty.Nowarrantyor liability
willbe acceptedfor bodilyinjuryor propertydamageresulting
fromone orseveralof thefollowingcauses:
-Misuse orabuseof thedevice.
-Improper mounting,commissioning,operation andmaintenance
ofthe device(e.g.verification interval).
-Operation ofthedevice ifanysafeguards aredefectiveor ifany
safetyand protectionprecautionsarenot properlyinstalledor not
operative.
-Ignoring thenoticesin theOperatingInstructionsregarding
transport,storage,mounting,commissioning,operation,
maintenanceandsetup ofthedevice.
-Any unauthorizedstructuralalteration ofthedevice.
-Insufficient inspectionofdevice componentsthataresubject to
wear.
-Opening thedevice orimproperrepair work.
-Disasters causedbythe effectsof foreignobjectsor byforce
majeure.
1.3 Responsibilitiesof the Personnel
Allpersons whowork withthedevice agreeto performthefollow-
ingduties beforestartingwork:
-Toobservethe basicregulationsonindustrialsafetyandaccident
prevention.
-Toreadthe chapteronsafetyandthe warningnotices inthese
OperatingInstructions andtoconfirm withtheirsignatures that
theyhaveunderstoodthem.
1.2 Responsibilities of the Operating Company
Incompliance withtheEC Directive89/655/ EEC,theoperating
companyagrees toonlypermit personsto workwiththe device
who:
-arefamiliar withthebasic regulationsonindustrial safetyand
accidentpreventionand whohavebeentrainedinhandlingthe
device.
-havereadand understoodthechapteronsafetyandthewarning
noticesin theseOperatingInstructions,and haveconfirmedthis
withtheir signatures.
-areexamined regularlyontheir safeandconscientious working
method.
1.4 InformalSafety Measures
TheOperating Instructionsmustalwaysbe keptonhand wherethe
deviceisoperated.
Apartfrom theOperatingInstructions, thegenerallyand locally
validregulationsonaccidentpreventionand environmental
protectionmust beprovidedand compliedwith.
Thecopyright ontheseOperating Instructionsremainswith the
company: HANS SCHMIDT & Co GmbH.
TheseOperatingInstructions areintendedforthe operating
companyand itspersonnelonly.Theycontaininstructions and
noticesthat mayonlybe reproducedonthe priorwritten
permissionof HANS SCHMIDT & Co GmbH
andunderindication ofthecompletereference data.
Violationswill beprosecuted.
Thedevicehas beendesignedaccordingto thestateofthe artand
theapprovedsafetystandards.
Nevertheless,its usemay causeseriousor fatalinjury totheuser
orthird persons,and/oran impairmentofthe deviceorofother
materialassets.
Thedevice mayonlybe applied:
-Forits intendedusein afaultlesscondition withregardto the
safetyrequirements.
-Malfunctionsthat couldimpairsafety mustberemedied
immediately.
-Personalprotectiveequipment mustbeused accordingtothe EC
Directive90 /686 /EEC.
1.6 Dangers in Handling the Device
Thedevice isintendedexclusively formeasuringrotation speeds
andsurfacespeeds.
Anyother useorany useexceedingthis intentionwillberegarded
asmisuse.
Under no circumstancesshall HANS SCHMIDT & Co GmbH be
heldliable fordamage resultingfrommisuse.
Theintendeduse alsoincludes:
-Complyingwith allnoticesincluded intheOperating Instructions
andobserving allinspectionandmaintenance works.
1.7 Intended Use
The device must not be operated in
explosion hazard areas and must not
come into contact with aggressive
substances.

1.5 Training of the Personnel
Onlytrained andinstructedpersonnel ispermitted toworkwith
thedevice. Theresponsibilitiesof thepersonnelmust beclearly
definedfor mounting,commissioning,operation,setup, mainten-
ance,and repair.Trainees mayonlywork withthedevice under
thesupervisionof anexperiencedperson.
