REAR BICYCLE CARRIER 5 STRAP FIXING
MAXIMUM 3 BICYCLES

Thank you for purchasing a Sealey product. Manufactured to a high standard, this product will, if used according to these
instructions, and properly maintained, give you years of trouble free performance.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. NOTE THE SAFE OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, WARNINGS & CAUTIONS. USE
THE PRODUCT CORRECTLY AND WITH CARE FOR THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH IT IS INTENDED. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY CAUSE DAMAGE AND/OR
PERSONAL INJURY AND WILL INVALIDATE THE WARRANTY. KEEP THESE INSTRUCTIONS SAFE FOR FUTURE USE.
1. SAFETY
8DO NOT use the cycle carrier if any parts are missing or damaged as this may cause failure or possible personal injury.
WARNING! Due to the variety in design of vehicles & cycles, it is the user’s full responsibility to ensure no damage occurs whilst
using this cycle carrier. Correct attachment of carrier to a vehicle is therefore critical and is beyond control of the manufacturer,
distributor, or supplier.
WARNING! The user must secure the carrier and any cycles to be carried properly, checking the security frequently when in use.
9Use strong, good quality tie restraints for securing cycles to the carrier. DO NOT use string, or elasticated straps.
9If your vehicle lights and/or number plate are obscured by your bikes, you are required BY LAW to replicate them with an
auxiliary lighting kit.
WARNING! Make an assessment of the suitability of the carrier to t the vehicle. Refer to the manufacturer’s handbook to nd the
suitability of attachment points. Consider the position and strength of spoilers, large glass panels and large body panels. Be aware
of when the rear wiper will operate automatically.
9Avoid damage caused by hot exhaust fumes do not position cycles directly next to the vehicle’s exhaust, especially the bicycle
tyres. If necessary t an exhaust deector.
9Ensure that bicycles do not come into contact with the vehicle bodywork and provide protection as required.
WARNING! Remove any loose objects from the bikes i.e pumps, bottles etc.
WARNING! Avoid any protrusions beyond the side of the car as these may present a risk of injury to passers-by.
8DO NOT use the cycle carrier for any purpose other than for which it is designed.
8DO NOT strap any other items to the carrier, only bicycles.
WARNING! Drive carefully - Be aware of cross winds, sudden braking or hard cornering, reduce speed accordingly when using
carrier.
WARNING! This carrier is designed for temporary use only, remove when not in use or before going through a car wash.
9 Every time before use check the carrier for security of ttings or any sign of wear and tear. Replace any worn or damaged parts.
WARNING! Remember the driver of the vehicle is responsible for the security and safety of the load carried.
2. INTRODUCTION
Rigid yet lightweight carrier designed to t most saloons, hatchbacks, vans, estates and coupés. Carries up to 3 standard bicycles. Includes
ve nylon xing straps and foam rubber tubes for protection of vehicle at contact points. Folds for easy storage. Available separately; set of
adaptors for use when xing straps of bicycle carrier to glass edged hatches - order Model no. BS3/1.

3. SPECIFICATION

4. ASSEMBLY
4.1. Unfold frame and set the required frame angle for the vehicle type that the carrier is being tted to, refer to gs.1 to 6.
4.2. Adjusting the Frame Angle
4.2.1. Pull the over centre levers back to allow the frame to be moved to the required angle. Fix the angle brackets to the frame using
Angle Bracket Nut, see g.1.
4.3. Locking the Frame
4.3.1. The frame is locked by using the over centre levers, see g.1. The pressure exerted by the over centre lever is increased
by holding the nut on the back stationary and winding the lever clockwise. Ensure that frame is securely locked in position and that
both levers are pushed fully over (shut).
5. FIXING CARRIER TO VEHICLES
5.1. Wash the vehicle to remove any dirt etc. that could scratch the paintwork where the hooks attach to it.
5.2. Position the carrier on the rear of your vehicle. The arms should be adjusted to an angle of between 10° and 30° above the
horizontal, refer to section 4.2.
5.3. Saloon Cars
5.3.1. When tting the carrier ensure that straps are not twisted and that the straps are progressively tightened alternately and equally.
5.3.2. Ensure the carrier is centrally positioned.
5.3.3. Set the angle of the frame for a saloon car, see section 4.2, and refer to g.3.
5.3.4. Depending on the shape of the car, the angle brackets may need to be fastened to the bolts which hold the lower strap buckles to
the frame using the spare handwheels, see g.2.
5.3.5. Refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s handbook.
5.3.6. Hook the top strap to the top edge of the boot lid, x the two side straps to each edge of the boot lid and the two bottom straps to
the bottom edge of the boot lid.
5.3.7. Equally tighten the straps, check the position of the carrier and fully tighten the straps.

5.4. Hatchback and Estate cars
WARNING! For vehicles with a glass edge to the top of the tailgate or door, use BS3/1 Hatchback Glass Pullers available from
your Sealey stockist.
5.4.1. When tting the carrier ensure that straps are not twisted and that the straps are progressively tightened alternately and equally.
5.4.2. Ensure the carrier is centrally positioned.
5.4.3. Set the angle of the frame, for a hatchback or an estate car, see section 4.2, and refer to g.4.
5.4.4. Refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s handbook.
5.4.5. Hook the top strap to the top edge of the tailgate or door, x the two side straps to each edge of the tailgate or door and the two
bottom straps to the bottom edge of the tailgate or door.
5.4.6. Equally tighten the straps, check the position of the carrier and fully tighten.
5.5. Vans
5.5.1. When tting the carrier ensure that straps are not twisted and that the straps are progressively tightened alternately and equally.
5.5.2. Ensure the carrier is centrally positioned.
5.5.3. Set the angle of the frame, for a van, see section 4.2, and refer to g.5.
5.5.4. Refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s handbook.
5.5.5. Hook the top strap to the top edge of the tailgate or door. Position the hook to one side of a pair of equally sized rear doors. The
carrier must still be centrally positioned on the vehicle. Fix the two side straps to each edge of the tailgate or doors and
the two bottom straps to the bottom edge of the tailgate or doors.
5.5.6. Equally tighten the straps, check the position of the carrier and fully tighten the straps.GG
6. PLACING CYCLES ON CARRIER
Refer to g.6.
6.1. When placing cycles (max of 3) onto the carrier place them in opposite directions. Avoid placing them near the exhaust especially
the tyres.
6.2. Secure cycle(s) onto the carrier with suitable ties or straps (2 provided). DO NOT use string or elasticated straps. Ensure that
cycles do not come into contact with the vehicle’s bodywork.
6.3. Recheck and retighten the straps, tie off the surplus lengths of strap for security.
WARNING! Remember the driver of the vehicle is resposible for the safety and security of the load carried. Check the tension of
all straps and the security of the cycles frequently during your journey. If your lights or number plate are obscured, you must t an
auxillary number plate and/or lighting system. Contact your local Sealey dealer for details.

Environmental Protection
Recycle unwanted materials instead of disposing of them as waste. All tools, accessories and packaging should be
sorted, taken to a recycling centre and disposed of in a manner which is compatible with the environment.
When the product becomes completely unserviceable and requires disposal, drain off any fluids (if applicable)
into approved containers and dispose of the product and the fluids according to local regulations.
