ASSEMBLY
Assembly requires two persons. Set the treadmillina clearedarea and remove all packingmaterials. Do not
disposeof the packingmaterialsuntilassemblyiscompleted.Note: The undersideofthe treadmillwalkingbelt is
coated withhigh-performancalubricant.Duringshipping,a small amountof lubricantmay betransferredtothe
topof the walking beltor the shippingcarton. This is a normalconditionand does notaffect treadmillperfor-
mance. Ifthere is lubricanton topof thewalking belt,simplywipe offthe lubricantwith a softclothand a mild,
non-abrasivecleaner.
Assembly requires the included allen wre_ and your own phillips screwdriver (_===_=._,
rubber mallet _::=:_, and wire cutters _:_.
For help identifying assembly hardware, see the drawings below. Note: The assembly hardware and other
small parts are packaged in separate part bags. If a part is not found in the part bags, check to see if the

1. With the help of a secondperson,carefully raise the
Uprights (109) to the position shown.
Insert one ofthe Extension Legs (128) intothe treadmill
as shown. Make sure that the ExtensionLeg isturnedso
the Base Pad (100) isbeneath it. Note: It may be hetpful
totip the Uprights(109) forward as you insertthe
Extension Leg.
Insertthe other Extension Leg(not shown) in the same
way.

2. Remove the plastic ties and the wood brace from the
Uprights (109).
Identify the left handrail, which has a hole in the indi-
cated location, and the right handrail. Hold the right
handrail near the right Updght (109), and insert the Wire
Harness (83) into the large hole in the right handrail and
out of the upper end as shown.
Next, hold the right handrail against the right Upright
(109), and hand tighten a 4" Bolt (112) into the right
Upright and the lower end of the right handrail. Tighten
two 5/16" x 1° Bolts (122) into the upper end of the right
handrail and the right Updght. Be careful not to drop
the Bolts into the handrail. Firmly tighten all three
Bolts.
Attach the left handrail as described above. Note: There
is not a wire harness in the left Upright (109).

3. With the help ofanother person, holdthe console as-
sembly near the right Updght (109) and the left Upright
(not shown).
Connect the Wire Harness (83) to thewire harness in
the console assembly. Make sure to connect the con-
nectors properly (see the inset drawing); the con-
hectors should slide together easily and snap into
place. Ifthe connectorsdo not slidetogether easilyand
snap intoplace, turnone connectorand tryto connect
them again. IF THE CONNECTORS ARE NOT CON-
NECTED PROPERLY, THE CONSOLE MAY BE DAM-
AGED WHEN THE POWER IS TURNED ON. Insertthe
excess wire harnesses back into the righthandrail.
Set the consoleassemblyonthe right Upright (109) and
the Left Upright (not shown). Thread two 1/4" x 1" Bolts
(71) with 1/4" Star Washers (92) into each side of the
consoleassembly. After you have started all four
Bolts, tighten them,

4. With the help of asecond person,carefullytip the
Uprights (109) down to the position shown. Make sure
that the Extension Legs (128) remain in the Uprights.
Press the two Base Endcaps (99) into the base of the
Uprights (109). See the inset drawing. Make sure that
the angle of each Endcap matches the angle of the
Upright.
Attach each ExtensionLeg (128) withtwo 3/4" Tek
Screws (47) and a RoundBase Pad (67) as shown.
(Note: Attach the lower Screw [without the Round Base
Pad] first.) Attach the two Base Pads (100) with four 3/4"
Tek Screws. Note: There are no screw holes in the Base
Endcaps (99). Press firmly on the screwdriver when
tightening the 3/4" Tek Screws (47).
With the help of a second person, carefully raise the
Uprights (109) so the Base Pads (100) are resting on the
floor.

5. Remove the knob from the pin. Make sure that the collar
and the spring are on the pin as shown. Insert the pin
into the Latch Housing (75) and tighten the knob back
onto the pin.
Raise the Frame (54) to the vertical position. While an-
other person holds the Frame, hold the Latch Housing
(75) against the inside of the Frame. Thread two 3/4"
Screws (6) several turns into the Latch Housing and the
Frame.
Align the pin with the hole in the Left Handgrip (76) by
sliding the Latch Housing (75) up or down. Make sure
that the pin can be inserted fully into the hole. Hold
the Latch Housing in place and tighten the two 3/4"
Screws (6). Be careful not to overtighten the Screws.
Pull the knob to the right and carefully lower the Frame
(54) to the floor. Press the Latch Cover (12) into the left
side of the Frame. See the inset drawing. Make sure that
the notch in the Latch Cover is positioned over the Foot
Rail (2) as shown.
Note: Over a period of use, the Latch Housing (75) may
need to be adjusted again to align the pin with the hole in
the Left Handgrip (76).

6. Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill. Note: Extrahardware may
be included.Keep the includedallenwrenches ina secure place.The large alienwrench isused toadjustthe
walking belt (see page 27). To protectthefloor orcarpet, place a mat underthe treadmill.

Ifyou purchase the optional chest pulse sensor (see page 23), follow the steps below to install the re-
ceiver and the short jumper wire included with the chest pulse sensor.
1. Make sure that the power cord is unplugged. Remove
the indicated3/4" Screw(6) and theAccessDoor (94)
fromthe backofthe ConsoleBack(95).
2. Connect the wire on the receiver (A) to the indicated wire
extending from the Console Back (95). Remove the
paper from the adhesive pad on the back of the receiver.
Hold the receiver so the small cylinder is near the
lower edge of the receiver and is facing the Console
Back as shown. Firmlypress the receiverontothe indi-
cated corner of the Access Door (94). Note: If there are
two screws included with the chest pulse sensor and two
plastic posts on the inside of the Access Door, attach the
receiver to the plastic posts on the Access Door with the
two screws.

3. Make sure that no wires are pinched. Reattachthe Access Door (94) with the314"Screw (6). The otherwires
includedwiththe receivermay be discarded.

TREADMILL OPERATION
THE PERFORMANT LUBETM WALKING BELT
Your treadmill features awalking belt coated with
PERFORMANT LUBETM, a high-performancelubricant.
IMPORTANT: Never apply silicone spray or other
substances to the walking belt or the walking plat-
form. Such substances will deteriorate the walking
belt and cause excessive wear.
HOWTO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD
an equipment-groundingconductorand agrounding
plug.Plug the power cord into a surge suppressor,
and plug the surge suppressor into an appropriate
outlet that is properly installed and grounded in
accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
Important: The treadmill is not compatible with
GFCl-equipped outlets.
This productis for useon a nominal 120-volt circuit,
and has a groundingplugthatlookslikethe plug illus-
trated in drawing1 below. Atemporaryadapterthat
looks likethe adapter illustratedin drawing2 may be
usedto connectthe surgesuppressorto a 2-pole
receptacle as shown indrawing 2if a properly
groundedoutletisnot available.
Your treadmill,like any othertype of sophisticated
electronic equipment, can be seriously damaged by
sudden voltage changesin your home's power.
Voltage surges, spikes,and noise interference can
result from weather conditionsor from otherappliances
being turned on oroff. To decrease the possibility of
your treadmill being damaged, always use a surge
suppressor with your treadmill (see drawing 1 at
the right). To purchase a surge suppressor, see
your local Sears or call 1.800-366-7278 and order
part number 146148.
Use only a single-outlet surge suppressor that is
UL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surge sup-
pressor (TVSS). The surge suppressor must have a
UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts or less
and a minimum surge dissipation of 450 joules.
The surge suppressor must be electrically rated
for 120 volts AC and t5 amps. There must be a
monitoring light on the surge suppressor to indi-
cate whether it isfunctioning properly. Failure to
use a properly functioning surge suppressor could
result in damage to the control system of the
treadmill. If the control system is damaged, the
walking belt may change speed or stop unexpect-
edly, which may result in a fall and serious injury.
This product must be grounded. If itshouldmalfunc-
tionor break down, groundingprovidesa pathof least
resistancefor electriccurrentto reducethe risk ofelec-
tricshock. This product is equippedwith a cordhaving

The temporary adapter should be used only untila
properly grounded outlet (drawing 1) can be installed
by a qualified electrician.
The green-coloredrigid ear, lug. or the like extending
from the adapter must be connected to a permanent
ground such as a properly grounded outlet box cover.
Whenever the adapter is used it must be held in place
bya metal screw. Some 2-pole receptacle outlet box
covers are not grounded. Contact a qualified elec-
trician to determine if the outlet box cover is
grounded before using an adapter.

Note: Ifthere is asheet of clear plastic
on the console, remove the plastic. Key
FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE
The treadmillconsoleoffersan impressive array of
features that help you get the most from your workouts.
When the manual mode of the console is selected, the
speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with
the touch of a button. As you exercise, the console will
display instant exercise feedback. You can even mea-
sure your heart rate using the handgrip pulse sensor or
the optional chest pulse sensor (see page 23).
Inaddition, the console offersfour preset programs.
Each program automatically controls the speed and in-
clineofthetreadmillas itguidesyouthroughan effec-
tive workout. Two heart rate programs are also offered.
Each programautomaticallyadjuststhe speed and in-
clineofthetreadmilltokeep yourheart ratenear a tar-
get heart ratewhileyou exemise.
The console also features iFIT.com interactive technol-
ogy. Having iFIT.com technology is like having a per-
sonal trainer in your home. Using the included audio
cable, you can connect the treadmill to your home
stereo, portable stereo, computer, or VCR and play
special iFIT.com CD and video programs (iFIT.com
CDs and videocassettes are available separately).
iFIT.com CD and video programs automatically control
the speed and incline of the treadmill as a personal
trainer guides you through every step of your workout.

BStand on the foot rails ofthe treadmill. Find the clip
attached tothe key (see thedrawingon page 11)
and slidethe clipontothe waistbandofyour
clothes. Next, routethe cordattached tothe clip
under the handgrip pulse sensor, and insertthe
key intotheconsole. After a moment,the displays
and various indicatorswill light.Test the clip by
carefully taking a few steps backward ut_til the
key is pulled from the console. If the key is not
pulled from the console, adjust the position of
the clip.
HOW TO USE THE _NUAL MODE
BInsert the key fully into the console.

Note: The first time the treadmill is used, observe
the alignment of the walking belt, and align the
walking belt if necessary (see page 27).

display will show the time remaining in the pro-
gram rather than the elapsed time.

pulse is detected, two dashes (- -) willappear in
the Calories/Pulse display, and then your heart
rate will be shown. For the most accurate heart
rate reading, continue to hold the contacts for
about 15 seconds.
Note: The pulse bar is intended to be used only
for heart ratemeasurement. Do not use the
pulse bar as a handlebar. Always hold the
handrails for support when you are not mea-
suring your heart rate.
D Turn on the fan if desired.
To turnon the fan, press the Fan button. To turn
onthe fan at highspeed, press the button a sec-
ond time. To turn offthe fan, press the button a
third time. Note: A few minutes after the walking
belt is stopped, the fan will automatically turn off.
B When you are finished exercising, remove the
key from the console.
Steponto thefoot rails,press the Stopbutton, and
adjust the incline of the treadmill to the lowest
setting. The inclinemust be at the lowest setting
when the treadmill is folded tothe storage posi-
tion or the treadmill will be damaged. Next,re-
movethe keyfromtheconsoleand putitina se-
cureplace.Note: If the displays and various indi-
cators on the console remain lit after the key is
removed, the console is in the "demo" mode.
See page 23 and turn off the demo mode.
When you are finished using the treadmill, switch
the reset]offcircuit breaker to the offposition and
unplugthe powercord.

trainer program indicators lights.
The diagrams beside the personal trainer program
indicators show how the speed and incline of the
treadmill will change during the programs. When a
program is selected, the Speed display will flash
the maximum speed setting of the program for a
few seconds, and the Distance/Incline display will
flash the maximum Incline setting. The Time/Pace
display will show how long the program will last.
The matrix willwill
show the first four
speed settings of the
program.
[]Press the Start button or the Speed increase
button to start the program.
A moment after the button is pressed, the tread-
mill will automatically adjust to the first speed and
incline settings of the program. Hold the handrails
and begin walking.
Each program is divided intoseveral time seg-
ments of different lengths, One speed setting and
one incline setting are programmed for each seg-
ment. Note: The same speed setting and/or in-
cline setting may be programmed for two or more
consecutive segments.

When only three seconds remain in the first seg-
ment of the program, both the Current Segment
column and the column to the right will flash and a
series of tones will sound. If the speed and/or in-
cline of the treadmill is about to change, the Speed
display and/or the Distance/Incline display will
flash to alert you. When the first segment ends, aft
speed settingswill move one column to the left.
The speed setting for the second segment will then
be shown in the flashing Current Segment column
and the treadmill will automatically adjust to the
speed and incline settings for the second segment.
Note: If all of the indicators in the Current Segment
column are lit after the speed settings have moved
to the left, the speed settingsmay move downward
so that only the highest indicators appear in the
matrix. If some of the indicators in the Current
Segment column are not lit when the speed set-
tings move to the left again, the speed settings will
move back up.
The program will continue in this way until the
speed setting for the last segment is shown in the
Current Segment column and the last segment
ends. The walking belt will then slow to a stop.
If the speed or inclinesetting is too high or too low
at any time during the program, you can manually
override the setting by pressing the Speed or
Incline buttons. Every few times a Speed button is
pressed, an additional indicator will light or darken
in the Current Segment column. (If any of the
columns to the right of the Current Segment col-
umn have the same number of lit indicators as the
Current Segment column, an additional indicator
may light or darken in those columns as well.)
Note: When the next segment of the program
begins, the treadmill will automatically adjust
to the speed and incline settings for the next
segment.

To stop the programat any time, press the Stop
button. The Time/Pace displaywillbegin to flash.
To restartthe program,pressthe Startbuttonor
the Speed increasebutton.The walkingbelt will
beginto moveat 1 mph.When the next segment
ofthe programbegins,the treadmillwillautomati-
callyadjust to the speed and incline settingsforthe
nextsegment.

key from the console.
When the programends,make sure that the in-
cline of the treadmill is at the lowest setting.
Next, removethe key fromthe consoleand putitin
a secureplace. Note: Ifthe displays and various
indicators on the console remain lit after the
key is removed, the console is in the "demo"
mode. See page 23 and turn offthe demo mode.
When you are finished usingthe treadmill, switch
the reset/off circuit breaker to the off position and
unplug the power cord.

You must wear the optional chest pulse sensor
(see page 23) to use a heart rate program. See
the instructionsincludedwiththe chestpulse
sensor.

cators show how the target heart rate willchange
duringthe programs. Duringthe 85% Max pro-
gram, yourheart ratewillreach approximately
85% ofyourestimated maximum heart rate; dur-
ingthe Self Select program,yourheart rate willre-
main near a level thatyou select. Note:Your esti-
mated maximum heart rate isdetermined bysub-
tractingyourage from 220. For example, ifyou
are 30 years old, yourestimated maximum heart
rate is 190 beats per minute(220 - 30 = 190).

button to start the program.
A moment after the button is pressed, the tread-
mill willautomatically adjust to the first speed and
incline settings of the program. Hold the handrails
and begin walking.
Each heart rate program is divided into several time
segmentsof different lengths. One target heart rate
is programmed for each segment. Note: If the Self
Select program is selected, the same target heart
rate is programmed for all segments.
During each segment, the console will reguiady
compare your heart rate to the current target heart
rate. If your heart rate is too far below or above
the target heart rate, the speed of the treadmill will
automatically increase or decrease to bring your
heart rate closer to the target heart rate. If the
speed reaches the maximum speed setting of the
program (see step 5 on page 16) and your heart
rate is still too far below the current target heart
rate, the incline of the treadmill will also increase
to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart
rate.
During the last three seconds of each segment, a
series of tones will sound and the Speed display
and the Distance/Incline display will flash.
The program will continue until the last segment
ends. The walking belt will then slow to a stop.
If the speed or incline setting is too high or too low
at any time during the program, you can adjust the
setting with the Speed or Incline buttons. However,
each time the console compares your heart rate to
the current target heart rate, the speed and/or in-
cline of the treadmill may automatically change to
bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate.
If your pulse is not detected during the program,
the letters "PLS" will flash in the Calories/Pulse
display and the speed and incline of the treadmill
may automatically decrease until your pulse is de-
tected. If this occurs, see the instructions included
with the optional chest pulse sensor.
To stop the program at any time, press the Stop
button. Heart rate programs cannot be stopped
temporarily and then restarted. To use a heart rate
program again, reselect the program and start itat
the beginning.

To use iFIT.com CDs or videocassettes, the treadmill
must be connected to your portable CD player, portable
stereo, home stereo, computer with CD player, or
VCR. See HOW TO CONNECT THE TREADMILL TO
YOUR CD PLAYER, VCR, OR COMPUTER on pages
18 to 20. Note: To purchase iFIT.com CDs or video-

Follow the steps below to use an iFIT.com CD or video
program.
B Insert the key into the console.
See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 12.
B Select the iFIT.com mode.
When the key is in-
serted, the manual
mode will be selected.
To use iFIT.com CDs or
videocassettes, press
the iFIT.com button. The
indicator on the button
will light.

If you are using an iFIT.com CD, insert the CD
into your CD player. If you are using an iFIT.com

VCR.
B Press the PLAY button on your CD player or
VCR.

sonal trainer wiltbegin guiding you through your
workout. Simply follow your personal trainer's
instructions. Note: If the Time/Pace display is
flashing, press the Start button or the Speed in-
crease button on the console. The treadmill will
not respond to a CD or video program while the
Time/Pace display is flashing.
DuringtheCD or videoprogram, an electronic
"chirping"soundwill alertyou when thespeed
and/orinclineofthetreadmillisabouttochange.
CAUTION: Always listen for the "chirp" and be
prepared for speed and/or incline changes. In
some instances, the speed and/or incline may
change before the personal trainer describes
the change.
