for all employees who perform work on the product.
Make sure this documentation is accessible and legible. Ensure that persons respon-
sible for the systems and their operation as well as persons who work on the product
independently have read through the documentation carefully and understood it. If you
are unclear about any of the information in this documentation or if you require further
information, contact SEW‑EURODRIVE.
1.2 Important notes
Inspect the shipment for damage as soon as you receive the delivery. Inform the ship-
ping company immediately about any damage. If the product is damaged, it must not
be assembled, installed or started up.
Removing covers without authorization, improper use, or incorrect installation and
operation may result in severe injuries to persons or damage to machinery.
1.3 Structure of the safety notes
1.3.1 Meaning of signal words
The following table shows the grading and meaning of the signal words for safety
notes.
Signal word Meaning Consequences if disregarded
DANGER Imminent hazard Severe or fatal injuries
WARNING Possible dangerous situation Severe or fatal injuries
CAUTION Possible dangerous situation Minor injuries
NOTICE Possible damage to property Damage to the product or its envi-

INFORMATION Useful information or tip: Simplifies
handling of the product.
1.3.2 Structure of section-related safety notes
Section-related safety notes do not apply to a specific action but to several actions
pertaining to one subject. The hazard symbols used either indicate a general hazard
or a specific hazard.
This is the formal structure of a safety note for a specific section:

Possible consequence(s) if disregarded.

1.4 Decimal separator in numerical values
In this document, a period is used to indicate the decimal separator.

The demo unit is intended for didactic purposes only. The kit serves as a teaching tool
for the structure, function, and professional assembly of an AC asynchronous motor.
Following the information in this documentation, you may mount the motor on the
given gear unit and operate it by hand. Do not operate the motor with electrical voltage
under any circumstances.

Read the information in this documentation. This is essential for fault-free operation
and fulfillment of any rights to claim under limited warranty. Read the documentation
before you start working with the product.

4 Assembly
4.1 Information about assembly
WARNING
The demo assembly kit is not designed to be connected to electrical voltage.
Severe injuries from electric shock.
• Do not connect the demo assembly kit to electrical voltage under any circum-
stances.
WARNING
Motors have moving parts.
Severe injuries from crushing.
• Do not place your fingers in the motor housing while parts are rotating.
• Remove the crank handle before performing any work on the motor housing.
WARNING
Parts in the training kit and the case itself are heavy and may fall or topple over.
Severe injuries from crushing.
• Secure the parts by taking appropriate measures.
• Wear safety shoes.
CAUTION
Parts of the motor may have sharp edges, especially at keyways and housing
edges.
Risk of injury from incised wounds.
• Always wear suitable gloves during assembly and disassembly.
CAUTION
Clamped retaining rings may loosen and spring out from the pliers.
Risk of injury due to flying parts.
• Wear safety goggles during installation and removal of retaining rings.
• Always insert the pliers into the thinner side of the bore in the retaining ring first.
(The bore in the retaining ring is conical.)
NOTICE
Parts of the motor may be heavy and sharp-edged.
Damage to the working surface.
• Use the included assembly base during assembly and disassembly.

sembly step.

about the real assembly steps.

1. Lay out the assembly base [W13] at the work-
place and put the assembly base together.
2 Required parts:
• Assembly tool [W12]
1. Place the assembly tool [W12] on the assembly
base [W13] with the recess facing up.

• Drive-end endshield: Motor flange Ø160mm [6]
If you would like to install a helical gear unit or a
helical-bevel gear unit later, you must use the
Ø160mm motor flange [6].
• Drive-end endshield: Motor flange Ø120mm [7]
If you would like to install a helical-worm gear
unit later, you must use the Ø120mm motor
flange [7].
Information: The figure shows a Ø 160 mm motor
flange.
1. Place the drive-end endshield (the Ø160mm
motor flange [6] or the Ø120mm motor flange
[7]) into the assembly tool [W12].
4 Required parts:
• Deep groove ball bearing 6204 [12]
1. Place the deep groove ball bearing 6204 [12]
into the drive-end endshield (Ø160mm motor
flange [6] or Ø120mm motor flange [7]).
Information: You can freely choose the installation
side of the bearing. The bearing is sealed on both
sides.
During factory assembly, the bearing is
installed by shrink fitting. For this purpose, the drive-
end endshield is heated to a predefined tempera-
ture, whereby the bore temporarily expands.
5 Required parts:
• Retaining ring Ø 47 x 1.75 [13]
• Retaining ring pliers for inner rings [W9]
1. Insert the retaining ring Ø 47 x 1.75 [13] by us-
ing the retaining pliers for inner rings [W9].

Step Figure Procedure
6 Required parts:
• Short rotor stack [1]
1. Insert the short rotor stack [1] into the previously
installed bearing with the pinion shaft end facing
down.
To ensure a defined fit, the bearing is first
heated and then pressed onto the shaft during fac-
tory assembly.
7 Required parts:
• Stator housing [2]
1. Mount the stator housing [2].
Information: Align the housing so that the recess
for the terminal box faces up and the breather plug
of the drive-end endshield is placed between the
terminal box and the nameplate.
Depending on the mounting position/ter-
minal box position, the alignment of the breather
plug varies.
