MULTI ACCESS

MULTI ACCESS
Multi access is when mutiple functions are used simultaneously.
In multi access, jobs where the user operates the unit directly have the highest priority.
●Direct access
Copying, scanning a document for sending (fax function), direct sending (fax function)
●Remote access
Printing data (printer function), printing fax data (fax function), normal fax reception (fax function), etc.
For example, if you have a copying job in progress, received faxes are not immediately printed.When
copyingisfinished,thefaxesareprinted.(Youcan,however,interruptacopyingtoprint afaxifnecessary).

in this section.
When paper runs out during printing...
Load paper, and printing continues with the data that was being printed before the paper ran out.

About Copier Mode/Fax Mode
You can change between copier mode and fax mode. To change modes, press the COPY/FAX key.

: You can use the copier function.
: You can use the printer function. : You can use the fax function.
In copier mode:
COPY indicator lights up
In fax mode:
FAX indicator lights up
The function of some operation panel keys and indicators depends on the mode selected. For detailed information, see manual
for the function you are using.
When the following functions are in use, pressing the COPY/FAX key causes the unit to change modes after the operation in
progress is finished. The indicator for the current mode remains lit, and the indicator for the new mode will blink until the
operation is complete.
●Copying
●Scanning documents for memory sending
●Direct sending
When the unit is in the following conditions, you cannot change between copier mode and fax mode.
●A paper or original misfeed has occurred.
●Paper has run out during copying and the unit is stopped.
●Setting of the tray paper size or toner save mode, etc. is in progress in copier mode.
●Interrupt copying is being performed in copier mode.
●Setting of a user program in copier or fax mode is in progress.
●Information (group dialing or program dialing information, etc.) is being entered in fax mode.
●The front or side cover is open.

Printing data during copying
Print data is received, but cannot be printed right away, because copying has priority. When copying is finished the print
data is printed under any of the following conditions.
●You press the CLEAR ALL key
●The auto clear time elapses (when set *)
●60 seconds elapses (when the auto clear time is not set *)
Normal fax reception during copying
Faxes are automatically received with substitute reception during copying. When copying is finished the
faxes printed under any of the following conditions.
●You press the CLEAR ALL key
●The auto clear time elapses (when set *)
●60 seconds elapses (when the auto clear time is not set *)
Printing received data during copying
Received data cannot be printed right away, because copying has priority. When copying is finished the received data
is printed under any of the following conditions.
●You press the CLEAR ALL key
●The auto clear time elapses (when set *)
●60 seconds elapses (when the auto clear time is not set *)
Receiving a telephone call during copying
You can receive a telephone call during copying. If the telephone call is a fax transmission you can interrupt the copy job
to receive the fax. To interrupt the copy job to receive a fax, perform the following steps.
1Press the CLEAR ALL key or the CLEAR key to interrupt copying.
2If there are documents in the single pass feeder or on the original table, remove them.
3Press the COPY/FAX key to select fax mode.
4Press the START key.
Receving begins.
Performing a copy job during printing
When using copier mode or when selecting copier mode from fax mode, you can peform a copying job.
Pending print data is held and after copying is finished, printing resumes. To interrupt the print job to copy, perform the
following steps.
1Confirm that copier mode is selected.
(If the unit is in fax mode, press the COPY/FAX key)
2Make copier settings and press the START key.
When the page currently being printed is finished, copying begins.
3After copying is finished, printing resumes under any of the following conditions.
●You press the CLEAR ALL key
●The auto clear time elapses (when set *)
●60 seconds elapses (when the auto clear time is not set *)

Receiving a telephone call during printing
(when the extension telephone is connected to theTEL jack)
You can receive a telephone call during printing. If the telephone call is a fax transmission you can interrupt the print job
to receive the fax. To interrupt the print job to receive a fax, perform the following steps.
1Confirm that fax mode is selected.
(If the unit is in copier mode, press the COPY/FAX key)
2If there are documents in the single pass feeder or on the original table, remove them.
3Press the START key.
Receiving begins.
Receiving a telephone call while scanning a document for sending
(when the extension telephone is connected to theTEL jack)
You can receive a telephone call while scanning a document for sending. If the telephone call is a fax transmission you
can interrupt the scanning to receive the fax. To interrupt the scanning to receive a fax, perform the following steps.
1Press the CLEAR ALL key or the CLEAR key to interrupt scanning.
2If there are documents in the single pass feeder or on the original table, remove them.
3Press the START key.
Receiving begins.
Copying during a normal fax reception
When using copier mode or when selecting copier mode from fax mode, you can peform a copying job. Fax data is
automatically received with the substitute reception function and after copying is finished, printing of the received fax
data resumes. To interrupt a fax reception for copying, perform the following steps.
1Confirm that copier mode is selected.
(If the unit is in fax mode, press the COPY/FAX key)
2Make copier settings and press the START key.
When the page currently being printed is finished, copying begins.
3After copying is finished, printing of the received fax resumes under any of the
following conditions.
●You press the CLEAR ALL key
●The auto clear time elapses (when set *)
●60 seconds elapses (when the auto clear time is not set *)

Printing data during the printing of received fax data
(when the extension telephone is connected to theTEL jack)
Print data is received, but cannot be printed right away because the unit is busy printing the received fax data. The print
data is printed after the received fax data finishes printing.
Receiving a telephone call during the printing of received fax data
You can receive a telephone call while printing received fax data. If the telephone call is a fax transmission you can
interrupt the printing of received fax data to receive the incoming fax. To interrupt the printing of received fax data to
receive a fax, perform the following steps.
1Confirm that fax mode is selected.
(If the unit is in copier mode, press the COPY/FAX key)
2If there are documents in the single pass feeder or on the original table, remove them.
3Press the START key.
Receiving begins.
Other combinations of operations

When an extension telephone is connected to the unit you can make a telephone call from the extension telephone.

When an extension telephone is connected to the unit, you can make a telephone call from the extension telephone.

The received fax data is printed after the data printing finishes.

When scanning multiples sheets of originals, the time needed to scan each sheet may be longer than that in a normal
operation.

Automatically changes to substitute reception.

Because scanning has priority, the printing of received fax data may be suspended until all of the scanning is finished.

The unit is busy with the current operation, therefore the direct sending job must wait. After the current operation is
finished, direct sending begins.
