Introduction
The Milltronics RBSS is a high-resolution, wheel-driven return belt speed sensor that
provides speed input to an integrator when used on a belt scale system.
The RBSS has a toothed gear, wheel, and trailing arm assembly, that rides along the
return belt. The gear and wheel rotate on a shaft fixed to the trailing arm. The internal
magnetic sensor detects the gear rotation and generates a signal proportional to the belt
speed. The output signal is transmitted via cable connection to the integrator to
determine the rate of the conveyed material.
The RBSS IS speed sensor contains a Pepperl + Fuchs, NAMUR rated, inductive proximity
switch, model number: NJ0.8-5GM-N. The proximity switch detects the gear rotation, and
transmits a signal to the integrator via the associated Switch Isolator.

Installation
Location
The RBSS should be located near the scale assembly to simplify wiring. The wheel
should ride on the return belt, either just before or just after a return belt idler.
RBSS without mounting bracket
The standard RBSS mounting attaches to the conveyor stringers via a customer-supplied
1" cross bar, cut and fastened to the stringers.
RBSS with mounting bracket
The RBSS speed sensor attaches to a customer-supplied structural cross member via a
pivot and bracket assembly.

Installation Steps
RBSS without mounting bracket
1. Measure the distance between the inside of the conveyor stringers, and then cut
the 24 mm (1”) cross bar to the measured length.
2. Orient the Return Belt Speed Sensor as shown in the “RBSS without mounting
bracket” on page 4.
3. Slide the cross bar through the hole on the end of the Return Belt Speed Sensor, and
then slide one 24 mm (1”) washer onto either end of the cross bar.
4. Position the assembly so the sensor wheel rides in the middle of the return belt.
5. Make sure there is 3 mm (1/8”) clearance between the sides of the sensor and the
washers, and then tack-weld the washers to the cross bar.
6. Tack-weld one end of the cross bar to one stringer.
7. Square the entire assembly with the return belt so the wheel will ride straight.
8. Tack-weld the other end of the cross bar to the opposite stringer, making sure the
assembly remains square with the belt.
9. Run the belt to check that the wheel is riding straight on the belt and is not pulling to
either side. If necessary, break one weld and pivot the entire assembly until the
wheel runs true.
RBSS with mounting bracket
1. Position the RBSS mounting bracket against a structural cross member so the
sensor wheel rides in the middle of the return belt. See the “RBSS with mounting
bracket” on page 4.
2. Drill and fasten or tack-weld the RBSS mounting bracket in place.
3. Position the RBSS between the bracket arms, and insert pin. Insert pin clip into pin.
4. Run the belt to check that the wheel is riding straight on the belt and is not pulling to
either side. If necessary, reposition the bracket until the wheel runs true.

Interconnection
Ensure that there is sufficient slack in the cabling to allow the RBSS arm to pivot freely so
the wheel rides on the belt. Restriction of the arm can cause slippage or excessive
contact between the belt and the wheel.

Maintenance
Inspection
• Inspect the RBSS periodically to ensure that it can rotate freely about the pivot pin
or cross bar.
• Inspect the proximity switch area periodically and remove any material build-up.

Einführung
Der Milltronics RBSS ist ein Geschwindigkeitssensor mit Laufrad zur Montage auf dem
Untergurt. In Verbindung mit einer Bandwaage liefert er Geschwindigkeitssignale an
einen Messumformer.
Der RBSS Sensor ist mit einem Zahnrad und einem Rad ausgestattet. Der nachlaufende
Arm liegt auf dem Untergurt auf. Zahnrad und Rad drehen sich an einer am nachlaufen-
den Arm befestigten Welle. Der interne Magnetsensor erfasst die Radumdrehung und
erzeugt ein zur Bandgeschwindigkeit proportionales Signal. Das Ausgangssignal wird
über Kabelanschluss an den Messumformer übertragen; daraus wird die Förderstärke
bestimmt.
Der Geschwindigkeitssensor RBSS IS (eigensichere Ausführung) besitzt einen integrier-
ten Pepperl + Fuchs Näherungsschalter mit NAMUR Zulassung, Modellnr.: NJ0.8-5GM-N.
Der Näherungsschalter erfasst die Radumdrehung und übertragt über den zugehörigen
Trennschaltverstärker ein Signal an den Messumformer.

Einbauort
Bauen Sie den RBSS in der Nähe der Bandwaage ein, um die Verkabelung zu erleichtern.
Das Rad muss auf dem Untergurt aufliegen, entweder kurz vor oder kurz nach einer
Untergurtrolle.
RBSS ohne Montagehalterung
Für eine Standard-Montage des RBSS an den Holmen des Gurtförderers ist ein
kundenseitiger 1" Querträger erforderlich, der auf die Holme zugeschnitten und daran
befestigt ist.

Der RBSS Geschwindigkeitssensor wird über eine Drehachse und eine Halterung an
einem kundenseitigen Querträger befestigt.

Einbauschritte
RBSS ohne Montagehalterung
1. Messen Sie den Abstand zwischen den Holmeninnenseiten und schneiden Sie
dann den 24 mm (1") Querträger auf die gemessene Länge zu.
2. Richten Sie den RBSS Geschwindigkeitssensor so aus, wie es die Abbildung “RBSS
ohne Montagehalterung” auf Seite 4 zeigt.
3. Schieben Sie den Querträger durch das Loch am Ende des RBSS und schieben Sie
dann jeweils eine 24 mm (13) Scheibe auf jede Seite des Querträgers.
4. Positionieren Sie das Ganze nun so, dass das Sensorrad mittig auf dem Rücklauf-
band aufliegt.
5. Zwischen den Sensorseiten und den Scheiben muss ein Zwischenraum von 3 mm
(1/8") beachtet werden. Heften Sie daraufhin die Scheiben an den Querträger.
6. Heften Sie ein Ende des Querträgers an einen Holm.
7. Bringen Sie den ganzen Aufbau in einen rechten Winkel zum Rücklaufband, damit
das Rad gerade auf dem Band läuft.
8. Heften Sie das andere Ende des Querträgers am gegenüberliegenden Holm an.
Prüfen Sie, dass der Aufbau rechtwinklig zum Band ist.
9. Lassen Sie das Band laufen. Das Rad muss korrekt auf dem Band aufliegen und darf
nicht seitlich abtreiben. Falls nötig, ist eine Schweißstelle wieder zu lösen und der
ganze Aufbau so weit zu schwenken, bis das Rad die richtige Stellung hat.
RBSS mit Montagehalterung
1. Positionieren Sie die RBSS Montagehalterung an einem Querträger des Gurtförde-
rers, so dass das Rad mittig auf dem Rücklaufband aufliegt. Siehe “RBSS mit Mon-
tagehalterung” auf Seite 4.
2. Bringen Sie die RBSS Montagehalterung entweder durch Bohrung oder
Heftschweißung an.
3. Positionieren Sie den RBSS in den Halter und fügen Sie den Dübel ein. Stecken Sie
die Klammer in den Dübel.
4. Lassen Sie das Band laufen. Das Rad muss korrekt auf dem Band aufliegen und darf
nicht seitlich abtreiben. Falls nötig, richten Sie die Halterung aus, bis das Rad
gerade auf dem Band läuft.

Die Verkabelung muss lose genug sein, damit sich der Arm des RBSS frei drehen kann
und das Rad auf dem Gurt aufliegt. Eine Einschränkung des Arms kann zu Schlupf oder
einem zu starken Kontakt zwischen Gurt und Rad führen.

• Der RBSS ist regelmäßig zu prüfen, um eine ungehinderte Drehung am Drehzapfen
oder Querträger zu gewährleisten.
• Prüfen Sie regelmäßig den Näherungsschalter und entfernen Sie ggf.
Materialablagerungen.

Introducción
El sensor de velocidad de alta resolución Milltronics RBSS para cintas de retorno
proporciona señales de velocidad a un integrador para básculas de cinta.
El brazo del sensor RBSS tiene un piñón de dientes y una rueda en contacto con la banda
de retorno. La rueda y el piñón giran alrededor de un eje fijo en el brazo. El sensor
magnético interno detecta la rotación del piñón y genera una señal proporcional a la
velocidad de la banda. La señal de salida se transmite por cable hasta el integrador para
calcular la velocidad del producto transportado.
El sensor de velocidad RBSS IS integra un interruptor de proximidad inductivo Pepperl +
Fuchs, NAMUR, número modelo: NJ0.8-5GM-N. El interruptor de proximidad detecta la
rotación del piñón y transmite la señal al integrador vía el interruptor-seccionador
correspondiente.
