Congratulations! You have selected a hearing instrument
from Siemens. This hearing instrument was individually
designed for your hearing impairment and is fitted spe-
cially to your personal hearing profile.
These instructions, together with guidance from your
Hearing Care Professional, will help you understand how
your new hearing instrument works.
If you have any further questions, please contact your
Hearing Care Professional.

Intended use

Hearing instruments are intended to improve the hearing
of hearing impaired persons. Diagnosis and prescription
of a hearing instrument must be performed by hearing
health specialists, e.g. ENT doctors, audiologists or acous-
ticians.
Read and follow the instructions of this user guide to
avoid injuries or damage to the hearing instrument.
Symbols:
Be aware of information marked with the warning symbol
WARNING, CAUTION or NOTICE!
WARNING points out a situation that could
lead to serious injuries,
CAUTION indicates a situation that could
lead to minor and moderate injuries.
NOTICE NOTICE indicates possible property
damage.
Advice and tips on how to handle your
hearing instrument better.

General notes on safety
NOTICE
Your hearing instruments are sensitive to extreme heat,
high humidity, strong magnetic fields (> 0.1T), X-rays
and mechanical stress.
Do not expose your hearing instruments to extreme
X
temperature or high humidity.
Do not leave them in direct sunlight.
X
Do not wear them in the shower or when you applyX
make-up, perfume, aftershave, hairspray or suntan lo-
tion.
Do not wear your hearing instruments when you are
X
exposed to short-waves, a strong magnetic field, a
high frequency field or X-rays.
Do not place your hearing instruments in a microwave
X
oven.
WARNING
Choking hazard posed by small parts.
Keep hearing instruments, batteries and accessories
X
out of children‘s reach.
If swallowed consult a physician or hospital immedi-

ately.
If infants, small children or mentally disabled persons

need to wear hearing instruments ensure adequate
supervision.

Leaking batteries damage the instrument.
Remove batteries when the instrument is not in use

for a prolonged period of time.
Turn your hearing instruments off when not in use to

preserve battery.

Risk in explosive environments, e.g. mining areas!
Don't use your hearing instruments (and remote con-

trol) in areas where there is a danger of explosions.

Low battery indicator
Your Hearing Care Professional can program your hearing
instrument to inform you when the battery is nearly
empty. If you hear an intermittent series of beeps or expe-
rience low amplification power, replace the battery.
Using a remote control
If you have the optional ePocket remote control, the bat-
tery status can be checked using the "battery read out"
function. (See the ePocket user guide for more informa-
tion.)
Remove the tab on yourX
battery only when you are
ready to use it.
The positive (+) side of the bat-
X
tery is always the smooth side.
Always keep spare batteries withX
you.

Inserting the battery
Completely open the battery com-X
partment with your fingernail as
shown in the illustration.
Insert the proper size battery so
X
that
the "+" symbol on the battery aligns
with the "+" marked on the battery
compartment.
Close the battery compartment by
X
gently pressing the bottom of the
door upward with your finger tip.
Do not force the door shut. If it does
X
not close easily, check to see if the
battery was inserted properly.
When the battery door is completely closed, your hearing
instrument is ready for use.

Removing the battery
Completely open the battery com-X

Normally the battery drops out

when the compartment is com-
pletely open. If the battery does
not come out, lightly tap the
instrument or push the battery
out with a pencil as shown.
Do not throw used batteries into household trash.X
Return them to your Hearing Care Professional for
environmentally correct disposal.

Battery compartment lock (only CIELO 2 S, CIELO 2)
Your instruments are equipped with a battery compartment
lock. This prevents the unintentional removal of the batteries
from their compartment.
Lock
Open the battery compartment to the first stop.X
Push the small slide to the right.X
The battery compartment can now only be opened up to
the first stop.
Unlock
Open the battery compartment to the first stop.X
Push the small slide to the left.X
The battery compartment can now be opened com-
pletely.

Turn on
Fully close the battery compartment toX

Press the battery compartment downwardX
to the first stop to turn the instrument off.
Power-on delay
Your hearing instrument is equipped with a "power-on
delay" feature which can be activated by your Hearing
Care Professional. This allows you to turn the hearing
instrument on with an automatic delay of 12 seconds, so
that you may insert the hearing instrument into your ear
without experiencing unpleasant feedback (whistling).
You can also use the ePocket remote control to turnX
the hearing instrument on and off.

How to select the programs
Your CIELO 2 hearing instrument offers up to four hearing
programs for specific listening environments.
Select a program using the program button
X
(only CIELO 2 S).
Each time you press the program button, your hearing in-
strument switches to the next program, confirming each
change with a beep. The number of beeps you hear coin-
cides with the selected program.
Example
You turn your hearing instrument on. It is automatically in
program 1. You want to change to program 2.
Press the program button once. You hear 2 beeps. You
X
are now in program 2.
Your Hearing Care Professional can write down the per-
sonal program configuration of your hearing instrument
on page 31.
You can also use the ePocket remote control to
change the hearing program. For Cielo 2 Life and
Cielo 2 changing the hearing program manually only
works with the ePocket remote control.

Volume control (only Cielo 2)

The volume of your CIELO 2 is controlled automatically
and there is no need to manually adjust it.
Should you prefer manual volume control, your Hearing
Care Professional can program the hearing instrument for
manual adjustment.
Rotate the volume control with your
X
index finger to select the desired li-
stening volume.
Your hearing instrument will not
exceed your maximum volume. Signal
tones can be programmed to indicate when the volume
control limit is reached. Adjusting the volume further in
that direction will then have no effect.

You can also use the ePocket remote control to
change the volume. For Cielo 2 Life and Cielo 2 S chan-
ging the volume manually only works with the ePocket
remote control.

ePocket (accessory) 11
wireless remote control
Your CIELO 2 hearing instrument allows you
to use an ePocket to change the program and
volume of your hearing instrument and to
read out the instrument settings. For further
information about ePocket, contact your
Hearing Care Professional or refer to the
ePocket user guide.
In the event your hearing instruments can be con-X
trolled by another person's remote control, return
hearing instruments and remote control to your
Hearing Care Professional.
When operating the hearing instrument in T-coilX
mode, the wireless function may cause a pulsing
noise. In this case use the remote control with a dis-
tance greater than 10 cm (4 inches).
The performance of the wireless function may be af-
fected by electromagnetic interference – e.g. from a
computer monitor or fluorescent lamp system.
Move away from the source of interference if you ex-
X
perience difficulty.

Audio input (only Cielo 2)

Your hearing instrument is equipped with an audio input.
Together with an audio shoe it enables the connection
between the hearing instrument and e.g. an FM system,
tape recorder, television or an infrared device. This way
the sound is coming directly from the sound source. That
can be useful for adults in difficult listening situations and
for children in classrooms.
When you attach an audio
shoe, the hearing instrument
automatically switches to the
corresponding audio shoe
program.
With the audio shoe L5 attached, the battery compart-
ment switch is disabled and the hearing system can only
be switched off via push button.
With the audio shoe F5 attached, the battery compart-
ment switch can still be used for the ON/OFF function.
