Safety *
The assembly must be installed, maintained
and repaired exclusively by persons familiar
with the instructions.
Always disconnect power source
(electricity, air or hydraulic) from the
equipment when it is not being used.
This equipment generates high pressure.
Extreme caution should be used when
operating this equipment as material leaks
from loose or ruptured components can
inject fluid through the skin and into the
body. If any fluid appears to penetrate the
skin, seek attention from a doctor
immediately. Do not treat injury as a simple
cut. Tell attending doctor exactly what type of
fluid was injected.
Any other use not in accordance with
instructions will result in loss of claim for
warranty or liability.
• Do not misuse, over-pressurize, modify
parts, use incompatible chemicals, fluids,
or use worn and/or damaged parts.
• Do not exceed the stated maximum
working pressure of the equipment or of
the lowest rated component in your
system.
• Always read and follow the manufacturer’s
recommendations regarding fluid
compatibility, and the use of protective
clothing and equipment.
• Failure to comply may result in personal

Usage
Description
Model  is a pumping unit designed to
operate a Centro-Matic lubrication system.
Unit includes a vent valve to relieve line
pressure to recharge injectors. FlowMaster II
rotary driven hydraulic pumps include a
pressure reducing valve, flow control valve
and solenoid operated ( V ) “on” and
“off” valve. Pressure reducing and flow con-
trol valves are factory preset and are not
adjustable.
FlowMaster II pump is fully automatic
when using a system controller and a pres-
sure switch. Pump is double acting, dispens-
ing lubricant on both up and down strokes.
This unit is designed to be used with SL-V,
SL-, SL-, SL- and SL- series injec-
tors or a combination of these.
Model  does not include a pressure
gauge.
Appropriate use
• Pump on this unit is exclusively designed
to pump and dispense lubricants using
hydraulic power only.
• Maximum specification ratings should not
be exceeded.
• Any other use not in accordance with
instructions will result in loss of claims for
warranty and liability.
Operation with
system controller
When system controller times out, lube cycle
will initiate. Solenoid is energized to deliver
hydraulic pressure to pump and vent valve.
Pump begins dispensing lubricant through
injectors to bearings.
When all bearings have received lubricant,
pressure rises in system to actuate pressure
switch. When pressure switch actuates, con-
trol is reset to de-energize solenoid valve
cutting off hydraulic oil pressure to pump
and vent valve. Pump stops, pressure vents
and pressure switch de-actuates. Control
begins timing toward next lube event.

Maintenance and
repair
General maintenance
• Keep area around pump clean. Clean off
filling port area prior to filling reservoir.
Clean area around filler after filling as
lubricants will attract dirt.
• Keep lubricants clean and free of dirt
and debris.
System malfunction
• Refer to Troubleshooting (page ) to
determine where to look if problems occur.
• Refer to corresponding sections for
replacement and repair of specific areas.
• Each part is identified with a number
keyed to a matching part on
illustrated views.
• General recommendations of tools
required are also specified in each step.
• Pay particular attention to warning
statements to prevent personal injury and
possible damage to pump components.
Installation
Place unit in approximate location making
sure electric and hydraulic power connec-
tions are accessible.
 Mark center locations of six holes at bot-
tom of reservoir.
 Drill six 1/2in (13 mm) holes. Use of 7/16 in
(10 mm) bolts will offer some flexibility in
securing reservoir to equipment.
 Connect lubricant outlet of pump to
system with suitable hose capable of
  psi (241 bar) working pressure.
 Connect hydraulic inlet with at least
3/8in (9 mm) inner diameter hose capable
of at least   psi (241 bar) operating
pressure.
 Connect hydraulic return to tank connec-
tion line with 3/4in (19 mm) inner diame-
ter hose or pipe.
 On model , both flow rate,
. gal/min (7.6 l/min), and pressure,
 psi (19 bar), are factory set and
non-adjustable.
Operation
Fill reservoir
 Clean area around filling port.
 Remove lower () and upper ()
pipe plugs from side of reservoir.
 Attach appropriate bulk-filling pump to
lower inlet ( in NPT).
 Fill reservoir until grease appears at the
top ( 1/4in NPT) vent high level port.
 Remove bulk filling pump.
 Replace both pipe plugs.
WARNING
Do not over pressurize reservoir
during filling.
Failure to comply may result in death
or serious injury.


Outlet check service
Refer to Troubleshooting (page ) to
determine if outlet check valve () is
cause of failure.
Pump will not build up sufficient lubricant
pressure if outlet check () is fouled
(† Fig.  and Fig. , page ). Foreign mate-
rial may lodge beneath check ball () or
between check disc () and seat () of
bushing assembly. Sealing surfaces of seat
must form a perfect seal.
 Turn off and disconnect hydraulic and
electric power supply to pump
assembly ().
 Standard tools required are bench
mounted vice, set of open end wrenches
ranging from 7/16 to  1/2in, large  in
(600 mm) adjustable wrench and
smaller  in (254 mm) adjustable
wrench.
 Remove hose ().
 Remove outlet check assembly ()
and adapter ().
 Remove adapter from outlet check
assembly.
 Remove outlet connector ()
from outlet check bushing ().
 Remove ball check seat () from outlet
connector ().
 Pull check disk assembly () out of ball
check seat ().
 Remove and discard gaskets ( and ).
 Clean and inspect all check
components (, , , and )
for scoring, damage or any foreign
material.
 Replace any damaged components of
outlet check assembly.
Replace gaskets ( and ).
Reverse above procedure to reassemble.
Torque check assembly to
 ft-lbf (135 Nm).
Vent valve service
Refer to Troubleshooting (page )to
determine if vent valve () is cause of
failure († Fig. , page  and
Fig. IPB , page ).
 Turn off and disconnect hydraulic and
electric power supply to pump assembly.
 Standard tools required are bench
mounted vice, set of open end wrenches
ranging from 7/16 to  1/2in,
large  in (600 mm) adjustable wrench
and smaller  in (254 mm) adjustable
wrench.
 Loosen vent hose (), supply hose ()
and hydraulic hose ().
 Remove bolts () and lock washers ().
 Remove vent valve ().
 Place base of vent valve in vice and
remove connected elbows ( and ).
 Remove hydraulic cylinder ().
 Remove piston and u-cup assembly ()
from cylinder ().
 Remove packing assembly () from
cylinder. If grease leakage is evident from
side of hydraulic cylinder, replace
packing.
 Clean and inspect needle () and valve
seat () for damage by nicks, grooves or
scoring. Replace if damaged.
 Remove valve seat () from valve
body (). Replace valve seat if damaged.
 Remove and replace gasket () under
valve seat ().
Reverse above procedure to re-assemble.
 Needle () and inside diameter of
hydraulic cylinder () should be coated
with oil or grease to assist in assembly.
 Tighten valve seat () into body ()
using  ft.lbf (34 Nm).
 Tighten hydraulic cylinder () onto valve
body () using  ft.lbf (135 Nm).
NOTE
Street elbow () must be facing down.
Elbow () must be rotated
approximately ° toward vent hose ()
to prevent excessive rubbing of hydrau-
lic hose on pump.


Safety unloader valve
Safety unloader valve () († Fig. 2) is not
serviceable. Replace if malfunction is
apparent. Upon reassembly, tighten to
 ft-lbf (13,5 Nm).
Safety unloader valve () is set to open at
  to   psi (259 to 293 bar) lubricant
pressure. If pressure switch fails to operate
and shut off hydraulic supply to pump, safety
unloader will open at approximately
  psi (275 bar) to relieve lubricant
supply line pressure (safety unloader is
preset and not adjustable).
WARNING
Do not plug outlet of safety unloader.
Plugging safety unloader outlet will
result in pressure build up.
Failure to comply may result in death
or serious personal injury.
WARNING
Do not operate without safety unloader.
Safety unloader ships with pump
assembly, but is not pre-installed.
Safety unloader must be installed
before using pump.
Failure to comply may result in death
or serious personal injury.

Troubleshooting
Condition Possible cause Corrective action
Pump does not operate. No hydraulic power to pump. Turn on or connect hydraulic supply to pump.
No pressure:
• Closed supply line shut off valve. Open shut-off valve.
• No power to solenoid valve. Correct electrical fault.
• Faulty solenoid. Replace solenoid.
• Pressure reducing valve is set too low. Reset pressure reducing valve.
• Insufficient hydraulic fluid supply. Check hydraulic supply for proper pressure and flow.
Pressure is inadequate:
• Closed fluid outlet line. Check outlet line and clear obstructions.
• Pump is stalled due to grease back pressure. Check vent valve in system.
Pump is seized or damaged. Dismantle pump and repair defective or seized
component. Refer to manual .
Pump runs excessively. Pump tube malfunction. Refer to manual .
Outlet check damage or contamination. Repair check or remove contamination.
Vent valve damage or contamination. Repair vent valve or remove contamination.
System component leaking. Repair leaks.
Vent valve not receiving proper pressure to keep it closed. Orifice fitting plugged.
Injector bypassing. Repair injectors.
Pump speeds up or runs erratically. Low level of grease or reservoir is empty. Refill reservoir.
Pump piston or checks are worn. Refer to manual .
Pump runs, but output is low. Insufficient hydraulic fluid supply. Check hydraulic supply and adjust flow.
Inlet pressure too low. Increase pressure at pressure control valve.
Faulty inlet or discharge check valve in pump. Replace faulty components.
Refer to manual .
Lubricant leaking from safety
unloader valve.
Pressure of system set too high. Adjust pressure switch setting.
Safety unloader damaged or contaminated. Replace safety unloader.
Lubricant leaking from weep hole in
vent valve.
