Xperia™X Performance

・In this manual, "Setting Guide", "Basic Manual", "取扱説明書（詳細版）(Full
Instruction Manual)" (Japanese),
"Cautions on using Xperia™X Performance" are collectively referred to as
"Instruction Manual".
・In this manual, "microSD™memory card", "microSDHC™memory card" and
"microSDXC™memory card" are abbreviated as "microSD memory card" or
"microSD".
・In this manual, "Xperia™X Performance" is usually referred to as "the
product".

･Before you start using the product, make sure to read the
"Safety Precautions" to ensure correct use.
･Before you assume that the product is malfunctioning,
check for possible remedies in the following au Customer
Support site of au homepage:

･Communication is not possible even inside the service area
in places where the signal does not reach (e.g. tunnels and
basements). Also, communication is sometimes not
possible in poor reception areas. Communication is
sometimes interrupted if you move into a poor reception
areas during communications.
･Since the product uses radio waves, the possibility of
communication intercepts by third parties cannot be
eliminated. (Though LTE/WiMAX 2+/GSM/UMTS system has
highly secure confidential communication features.)
･For connecting to an emergency office, au VoLTE (LTE
network) is used. 3G (Line exchange network) connection is
not available.
･The product is compatible with the international roaming
service. Each network service described in "Instruction
Manual" varies depending on the area and service content.
･Since the product is a radio station under the Radio Law,
you may be asked to temporarily submit the product for
inspection in accordance with the Radio Law.
･The IMEI information of your cell phone is automatically sent
to KDDI CORPORATION for maintenance and monitoring
operational status of your mobile phone.
･Before you start using the product overseas, check the
relevant laws and regulations of the country/region you visit.
･The Company is not liable for any damages arising from
earthquakes, lightning, storms, floods or other natural
disasters, as well as fires, actions by third parties, other
accidents, intentional, mistaken, or incorrect use by the
customer, or use under other unusual conditions outside the
responsibility of the Company.
･The Company is not liable for any incidental damages
(change/disappearance of described content, loss of
business income, disruption of business, etc.) arising from
use of the product or inability to use the product.
･The Company is not liable for any damages arising from
failure to observe the described content of the "Instruction
Manual".
･The Company is not liable for any damages arising, for
example, from malfunction caused by combination with
connected devices or software not related to the Company.
･Captured image data or downloaded data may sometimes
be altered or lost due to faults, repair or other handling of
the product. The Company is not liable for any damage or
lost income resulting from recovery of these data.
･It is recommended you keep a copy of important data on
your PC's hard disk, etc. Whatever the cause of the defect
or malfunction may be, the Company assumes no

･Contents saved in the product, such as contacts and Album
data might be altered or lost in an accident, fault, repair or
mishandling. Be sure to keep a copy of important contents.
Note that the Company assume no responsibility for any
damages or lost profits resulting from altered or lost
contents.
･Note that contents data (both charged or free content)
saved with the product cannot be returned to the customer
when the product is replaced for repair of a fault, for
example.
･The product uses liquid crystal for its display. The display
response speed may become slow when the ambient
temperature is low, which is due to the property of liquid
crystal and not a malfunction. The display response speed
will return to normal at room temperature.
･Although the display used on the product is made using
high-precision technology, some pixels (dots) might be lit or
out at all times. This is not a malfunction.
･You are recommended to store copies of individual data
such as photos you took, videos and music on your PC by
sending each file as mail attachment, etc. Note, however,
that you may not be able to make copies of any copyrighted
data even by the above-mentioned means.
･Do not discard the product together with regular trash.
Please cooperate in the collection of the product (including
optional accessories) when it is no longer needed to protect
the environment and effectively use resources. We collects
the product at au shops and other places.

■Use of the product is not allowed in the
following places!
･Do not listen to music or watch videos, TV, etc. while driving
a car or motorbike, or riding a bicycle. Use of mobile
phones while driving a car or motorbike is prohibited by law.
(Use of mobile phones while riding a bicycle may also be
punishable by law.) In addition, stay alert to the traffic
around you even when walking. Surrounding sounds may
not be heard clearly, and gazing at the screen might distract
your attention causing a traffic accident. Be especially
careful at railroad crossings, station platform and pedestrian
crossings.
･Use of mobile phones on board is restricted. Follow the
instructions of each airline.
■Consider people around you
･To prevent ringtone from bothering other people, not only
refrain from making a call but also power off or use Silent
mode at a movie theater, theater, museum, library, etc.
･In a city area, use in a place where you do not bother
people walking.
･It is extremely dangerous to walk while looking at the screen
of the mobile phone. Do not make calls or operate a mobile
phone while walking or by stopping suddenly.
･Move to a place where you do not disturb others while you
are in shinkansen, a hotel lobby, etc.
･Be careful not to be loud while talking.
･Be careful of sound leakage from earphones in trains or
other places with many people around you.
･Ask permission if you take photos with your mobile phone
camera.
･When using the camera, follow common rules of etiquette
regarding camera use.
･There may be a person with a cardiac pacemaker nearby at
a place filled with people such as in a crowded train. Set
"Airplane mode" or turn the product off beforehand.
･When a medical institution has laid down designated areas
where use of the product is prohibited or is not allowed to be
brought in, abide by the instructions of that medical
institution.
■Before using this product, thoroughly read these safety precautions
for proper use. After reading, keep this manual in a safe place for
future reference.

observed to prevent damage to property or injury to the customer or

Power off the product before you step into a place where
flammable gas can leak, such as gas stations, or a place where
dusts are generated. Stop charging if you charge the product.
Using the product in a place where flammable gas leaks might cause
explosion, fie, etc.
When using Osaifu-Keitai at a gas station etc., be sure to turn the
power off in advance. (If you set "NFC/Osaifu-Keitai lock", cancel the
lock and then turn the power off.)
If you notice anything unusual about the equipment such as an
unusual odor, abnormal noise, smoke generation, overheating,
discoloration or deformation during operation, charging or
storage, perform the following measures.
・Remove the power plug from an outlet or cigarette lighter.

charging because the temperature might become warm. Also, be

The product, or the charging equipment might become warm when
using an app, a call, data communication, watching TV or video, etc.
for a long time or charging. If you are directly in contact with warmed
part for a long time, it might cause a redness of skin, itch, rash, low-
temperature burn etc. depending on your physical condition.

Do not put excessive force such as sticking a nail (sharp object)
into the product, hitting it with a hammer (hard object), or
stepping on it.

rinse the eyes with clean water and see a doctor right away. Do
not rub the eyes.

Do not turn on the light with the lighting luminescence part close
to the people's eyes. Keep enough distance away especially from
babies.
Doing so might cause blurred vision etc. Also an accident such as
injury might occur if he or she is dazzled or frightened.
Do not turn on of flash the light toward a driver of a car etc.
Doing so might disturb driving and cause an accident etc.
Do not look at a repeatedly-blinking screen for a long time.
Doing so might cause cramp, loss of consciousness, etc.
Do not allow liquids such as water (drinking water, sweat,
seawater, urine of pet animals, etc.), metal parts, or flammable
objects to enter to the microSD memory card/au Nano IC Card 04
slot of the product.
Do not set a microSD memory card or au Nano IC Card 04 in
wrong insertion, or insert it in wrong orientation.
Doing so might cause fire, burns, injury, electric shock, etc.
Do not expose the camera lens to direct sunlight for a long time.
Doing so might cause fire, burns, injury, etc. due to light-collecting
mechanism of lens.

Power off the product or put it in Airplane mode before boarding
an airplane.
Use of mobile phones on board is restricted. Follow the instructions of
each airline.
Failure to do so might adversely affect on-board electronic equipment.
Prohibited acts related to mobile phone usage on an airplane might

mobile phones on their premises.

Always keep the product away from your ear when you talk
setting the hands-free, while sounding the ringtone, or during
stand-by.
Also, when you play game, play back videos, music, etc.
connecting the earphone/microphone, etc. to the product, adjust
the volume adequately.
Hearing in too loud volume or using continuously for a long time might
cause difficulty in hearing etc.
Moreover, if you barely hear the surrounding sounds, it might cause
accident.
If you have a weak heart, set the vibrator or ringtone volume
carefully.
Failure to do so might affect your heart.
If you are wearing any electronic medical equipment, check with
the relevant medical electronic equipment manufacturer or
vendor whether the operation might be affected by radio waves.
The radio waves from the product might affect electronic medical
equipment.
Power off the product near electronic devices or equipment
operating on high precision control or weak signals.
Failure to do so might interfere with the operation of electronic devices
or equipment.
* The following are some electronic devices or equipment that you
should be careful of:
Hearing aids, implantable cardiac pacemaker, implantable
cardioverter defibrillator, other electronic medical equipment, and
other automatically controlled devices or equipment. If you use an
implantable cardiac pacemaker, implantable cardioverter
defibrillator, or other electronic medical equipment, check with the
medical electronic equipment manufacturer or vendor whether the
operation can be affected by radio waves.
Be careful about broken glasses or exposed internal part of the
product if the display or the camera lens is broken.
Touching damaged or exposed part might cause burns, injury,
electric shock, etc.
If the internal battery leaks or gives off a strange smell,
immediately remove it from the vicinity of open flames.
The leaking liquid might ignite fire, catch fire, explode etc.
Be careful not to allow a pet etc. to bite the product.
Doing so might cause fire, burns, injury, etc. because of ignition,
burst, heat or leaking of the internal battery.

When using the motion sensor, check the safety around you, hold
the product firmly, and do not shake it unnecessarily.

longer used, bring it to a sales outlet such as au shop. If your local
municipality has a battery recycling program, dispose of them as

If the substance etc. leaks out from the internal battery, do not allow
the fluid to contact with your skin of face or hands, clothes, etc.
Doing so might cause blindness, injury on your skin, etc.
If the internal substance etc. gets into your eyes or mouth, or contacts
skin or clothes, immediately rinse the contacted area with clean
running water.
In the case of getting into your eyes or mouth, immediately consult a
doctor after rinsing.
For using the product in a car, check with the automobile
manufacturer or dealer for the effects by radio waves before using.
In rare cases, using the product in some vehicle models can cause
the vehicle's electronic equipment to malfunction. In that case, stop
using the product immediately.
If abnormalities on skin are developed by using the product,
immediately stop using and take medical treatment. The use of
the product might cause itching, rashes, eczema, or other
symptoms depending on the user's physical condition.

Make sure not to get metal objects (blade of cutter, staples, etc.)
adhered because magnetic parts are used on the earphone/
speaker and speaker of the product.
Such adhered objects might cause injury etc.

TV antenna cable 02, immediately stop using and take medical

equipment (sold separately), or do not apply unreasonable force
to the cord such as pulling.

Do not contact metal objects to the specified charging equipment
(sold separately) when connecting to or disconnecting from an
outlet.

Do not connect the voltage converter for overseas travel (travel
converter) to the specified charging equipment (sold separately).
Doing so might cause ignition, overheating, electric shock etc.
Do not put an excessive force to the connection part with the
adapter connected to the product.
Doing so might cause fire, burns, injury, electric shock, etc.
Never connect the microUSB plug to the product or charging
equipment (sold separately) when it is wet.
Although the product has the waterproof property, inserting microUSB
plug to the product when it is wet might cause electric shock or short
circuit due to the moisture or foreign substance on the product or
microUSB plug, or might cause abnormal overheating, fire damage,
fire, burns, or a fault if corrosion occurs.
Do not touch the cable, charging terminals or power plug of the
specified charging equipment (sold separately) with wet hands.
Doing so might cause fire, burns, electric shock, etc.
Use the adapter only on the specified power supply and voltage.
When charging the battery overseas, use AC adapter for global
use.
Using the incorrect power supply and voltage might cause fire, burns,
electric shock, etc.
AC adapter (sold separately): 100 VAC (Connect to the AC outlet for
internal household use)
AC adapter (sold separately): 100 VAC to 240 VAC (Connect to the
AC outlet for internal household use)
DC adapter (sold separately): 12/24 VDC (for negative ground vehicle
only)
When replacing a fuse in Common DC Adapter 03(sold
separately), make sure to use the specified fuse.
Using a fuse other than specified might cause fire, burns, electric
shock, etc. For the specified fuse, see the users manuals that
supplied with a DC adapter.
Clean dust from the power plug.
Using it with dust adhering might cause fire, burns or electric shock.
Firmly insert the plug of the specified charging equipment (sold
separately) into an outlet or cigarette lighter socket.
Insecure inserting might cause fire, burns, electric shock, etc.
When you disconnect the power plug from an outlet or cigarette
lighter socket, do not apply excessive force it such as pulling the
cord of the specified charging equipment (sold separately).
Instead, hold the adapter main unit to disconnect.
Pulling the cord of the specified charging equipment (sold separately)
might damage the cord causing fire, burns, electric shock, etc.
When plugging/unplugging the specified charging equipment
into/from the product, plug/unplug the specified charging
equipment straight toward the product without applying
excessive force such as pulling the cord etc.
Incorrect plugging/unplugging might cause fire, burns, injury, electric
shock, etc.
If the charging terminal is deformed such as being bent etc., stop
using immediately. Do not use it with the deformation restored.
Doing so might cause fire, burns, injury, etc. due to short-circuit of the
charging terminal.
Always remove the power plug of the specified charging
equipment (sold separately) from an outlet or cigarette lighter
when not using it.
Keeping with connected to the power plug might cause fire, burns,
injury, electric shock, etc.
Immediately remove the power plug from an outlet or cigarette
lighter socket if liquids such as water (drinking water, sweat,
seawater, urine of pet animals, etc.) come in.
Doing so might cause fire, burns, electric shock, etc.
Before cleaning, remove the power plug from an outlet or the
cigarette lighter socket.

carry or use the product 15 cm or more away from the implant at
all times.
The radio waves from the product might have harmful effects on the
operation of the electronic medical equipment.
If you need to use electronic medical equipment other than
implantable cardiac pacemakers or implantable cardioverter-
defibrillators outside medical facilities such as treating at home,
consult the relevant medical electronic equipment manufacturer
for effects on the equipment by radio waves.
The radio waves from the product might have harmful effects on the
operation of the electronic medical equipment.
If there is any chance that the distance between the product and a
person closest to you might get shorter than 15 cm such as when
you cannot freely move around, set it not to emit radio wave in
advance (Airplane mode, turning the power off, etc.).
A person in close proximity to you might be equipped with electronic
medical equipment such as an implantable cardiac pacemaker or an
implantable cardioverter defibrillator. The radio waves from the
product might have harmful effects on the operation of the electronic
medical equipment.
Follow the instructions given by the respective medical facility
regarding the use of the product on their premises.
Failure to do so might have effects on the operation of the electronic

Handling precautions
●Do not apply excessive force to the product during use. Be sure not to put
the product into a tightly packed bag or place a heavy object on the
product in a bag. Sitting on the product in your pocket might damage the
display or internal circuit board or cause a malfunction.
Keeping an external device connected to the external connection terminal
might cause damage of the connector or a malfunction. Such damage and
malfunction are not covered by the warranty, even if there is no external
damage.
●To ensure waterproof property (equivalent to IPX5 and IPX8) of the product,
use with the cover of the microSD memory card/au Nano IC Card 04 slot
tightly closed.
Note that the waterproof property is not guaranteed in every usage
condition. Do not allow water to get inside of the product or splash water on
charging equipment or optional accessories. Do not open or close the
cover of the microSD memory card/au Nano IC Card 04 slot in the rain or
with water droplets on the surface of the product. Doing so might cause
water intrusion resulting in internal corrosion.
Malfunctions determined to be caused by water intrusion are not covered
by the warranty.
●Waterproof/dustproof performance might not be maintained if the product
has an outward abnormality such as damage or deformation. In that case,
contact Keitai Guarantee Service Center.
●Do not use the product in extremely hot, cold or humid places.
(Use within an ambient temperature range of 5℃to 35 ℃and humidity
range of 35% to 85%.)

●Do not use in places subject to lots of dust or vibration. Doing so might
cause a malfunction.
● Clean the external connection terminal with dry cotton swabs, etc. every now
and then. Soiled terminals might cause poor connection. Do not exert a
strong force to clean the external connection terminal to prevent deformation.
● Clean the product with a soft dry cloth (such as the type used for
eyeglasses). Forceful rubbing with a dry cloth might scratch the display. The
display might be stained if splash or smear is left attached to the surface.
Wiping the product using alcohol, thinner, benzene, detergent, glass cleaner,
etc. might erase the printing on the exterior case or cause a malfunction.
●Use as far away as possible from land-line phones, TVs and radios. Use of
the product nearby might affect them.
●The product might become warm while talking, watching TV, charging or
during other operations, depending on the situation, but this is not abnormal.
●Do not place near corrosive chemicals or in places where corrosive gas is
generated. Doing so might cause a malfunction.
●Do not use outside when you can hear thunder. Doing so might risk
lightning strikes and electric shock.
●Be sure to use only the specified peripheral devices. Use of other
peripheral devices might cause a malfunction.
●Do not put the product in a cooking apparatus such as microwave oven or
a pressure vessel. Doing so might cause a malfunction.
●The customer is not allowed to disassemble, modify or repair the product.
Doing so might cause a malfunction. Modification of the product is in
violation of the Radio Law and Telecommunications Business Act.
●Do not allow a part of your body such as finger or conductive foreign objects
(metal fragments, pencil leads, etc.) to come into contact with or enter to the
external connection terminal. Doing so might cause a malfunction.
●In the event that the product gets wet while charging, immediately
disconnect the specified charging equipment.
●Do not use the product while driving an automobile or motorized bicycle,
riding a bicycle or walking. Use of a mobile phone while driving a car or
motorbike is prohibited by law. Use of a mobile phone while riding a bicycle
might be punishable by some regulations.
●Using or charging the product in a bag or when it is covered with bedding
might cause a malfunction.
●When using charging equipment or an external device, insert/remove the
connector straight to/from the product. Make sure the orientation of the
connector is correct. Unless it's correct, it might cause a malfunction.
●Do not expose the camera lens to direct sunlight for an extended period.
Doing so might cause a malfunction.
●Do not store the product in places subject to direct sunlight (e.g. in
automobiles), places that get hot, places that get extremely cold, and in
humid or dusty places. Doing so might cause a malfunction.
●Do not place the product on an unstable or inclined platform. Be careful
especially while charging or when vibrator is set. Dropping the product
might cause a malfunction.
●Do not exceed the rating of outlet or wiring device when charging the
product, for example, by starburst connection etc.
●Do not swing the product around by holding Sony Mobile TV antenna cable
02, the hand strap, etc. Doing so might cause an accident such as injury or
damage.
●Since the battery is built into the product, you cannot replace it yourself. For
replacing the battery, contact an au shop or Customer Service Center.
●Do not forcefully press, tap or intentionally subject the display to strong
impact. Doing so might cause scratching or damage.
●Do not forcefully press the keys or display surface with your fingernails or
hard objects. Doing so might cause scratching or damage of the keys or
display.
The touch panel is designed to be lightly touched by fingers. Do not apply
strong pressure with your fingers or sharp-pointed objects (such as
fingernails, ballpoint pens and pins) on the touch panel.
In the following cases, the touch panel might not respond or errors in
operation might occur.
・Operation with fingernails
・Operation with foreign object on the touch panel
・Operation with protective sheet or seal on the touch panel
・Operates when the display is wet with water droplet or fogged
・Operation with wet or sweaty fingers
・Operation under water
●Do not use a remodeled the product. Use of a modified device violates the
Radio Law and Telecommunications Business Act.
The product is compliant with rules on the technical standard conformance
of specified wireless equipment based on the Radio Law/
Telecommunications Business Act, and as a proof of it, the "Technical
Compliance Mark " can be checked with the product.
Checking procedure: From the Home screen, [ ]→[Settings]→[About
phone]→[Certificates]
If the screws of the product are removed and modifications of the internal
components are made, the certification of conformity with the technical
standard conformance etc. becomes invalid. Do not use the product with
the certification invalid, as it is a violation of the Radio Law and
Telecommunications Business Act.
●Take care not to place magnetized items such as magnetic cards,
speakers and TV sets near the product, as it might cause a malfunction.
Putting a strong magnetism close to the product might cause a false
operation.
●Do not bring magnetized cards such as cash cards, credit cards and pre-
paid cards closer to the product. It might cause loss of the recorded data.
●When you put the product in your pocket or bag, take care that the display
does not come in contact with metal objects or other hard objects, as it
might cause a scratch or damage.
●When suddenly brought into a warm place from a cold place, or when used
in a humid location or in a place where temperature suddenly changes (e.g.
near the air discharge port of an air conditioner), water droplets (i.e.
condensation) may be formed inside of the product. Note that when used
under such conditions, the humidity might cause corrosion or a malfunction.
●While writing or reading data to or from a microSD memory card, do not
subject the product to vibration or impact, or turn off the power. Doing so
might cause loss of data or a malfunction.
●Do not cover the proximity/light sensor with your finger or put a sticker on it.
Doing so might hinder the proximity/light sensor from detecting the ambient
brightness and functioning correctly.
●Do not put a sticker, etc. on the proximity/light sensor. Doing so might
cause a malfunction on the sensor and make the display always turned off
while receiving a call or during a call.
●Normally use the product with the microSD memory card/au Nano IC Card
04 slot cover firmly closed. If the cover is open, dirt or water might get
inside and cause a malfunction.
●Do not allow liquids, metal and other foreign objects to get inside the
headset connection terminal, microUSB connection terminal, or microSD
memory card/au Nano IC Card 04 slot. Doing so might cause a malfunction.
●Do not give strong impact on the product such as dropping, throwing,
stomping. Doing so might cause a malfunction.
●Do not put the product directly on sand at a beach, etc. Sand or other small
particles might get inside the earpiece, microphone or speaker, causing
the volume to drop. If sand gets inside the the product main unit, it might
cause a malfunction.
●Putting stickers or sheets (e.g. commercially available protective films,
peep prevention sheets) on the display might hinder correct operation of
the touch panel.
●When carrying the product in your pocket or bag, take care not to put the
touch panel close to metals or other conductive materials, as it might cause
false operation of the touch panel.
●Use in very hot or cold environments, for example, when left in an
automobile with the windows closed in summer, will cause the internal
battery capacity to drop and shorten the available usage time. This will also
shorten the internal battery's service life. Try to use the product as far as
possible at room temperature.
●The internal battery gradually discharges after charging even if the product
is not used. The internal battery might discharge completely after long time
no use. Charge before using.
●The internal battery is a consumable part. If the performance of a battery
does not recover (e.g. the usable time after each charge has become
extremely short), the battery is at the end of service life, so stop use.
Battery is built into the product. For repair, the product must be collected to
au shop etc. and charges will be incurred. And you might not use the
product during certain period of time. Please be forewarned. Note that the
length of service life varies depending on the usage condition, etc.
●The internal battery sometimes swell up as they approach the end of their
service life. This is due to the properties of lithium-ion batteries, and is not a
problem in terms of safety.
●Do not wrap the cable of the specified charging equipment (sold
separately) around the adapter itself. Do not bend the joint of the plug or
connector and the cable of the charging equipment forcibly. Do not place
heavy objects on an adapter or cable, or do not apply unreasonable force
such as pulling. Doing so might cause a malfunction.
●When unplugging the plug of the specified charging equipment (sold
separately) from the outlet or cigarette lighter socket, hold and pull the
power plug. If you pull the cable, the cable might be damaged.
●Do not forcibly remove or insert au Nano IC Card 04. Be careful not to exert
excessive force when inserting the card into your au phone.
●You are responsible for any damage caused by inserting your au Nano IC
Card 04 into some other IC card reader/writer, etc.
●Do not put stickers, etc. on the au Nano IC Card 04.
●Do not damage the card by using the product in a hot place, dropping into
fire, contacting to the metal parts with foreign object, giving an impact,
bending, applying load, etc. Doing so might cause loss of data or a
malfunction.
●When photographing important occasions etc., take a trial shot and check
the shot image to make sure it is correctly shot.
●Do not shoot in a place where shooting is prohibited.
●You are not allowed to copy, distribute, publish, modify or edit the data you
shot, recorded or downloaded using the product without consent of the
copyright holder, except for personal use, under the copyright law.
In addition, do not use or modify portraits or names of other individuals
without the consent, as it might infringe on rights of portrait.
Note that shooting and recording might be restricted at some live
performances, shows and exhibitions even for personal use.
●Be careful about the copyright and portrait right when posting photos you
shot, etc. on Internet homepages.
●Please back up important content recorded to the product or downloaded
to the product from an outside source. Content recorded to memory on the
product sometimes disappears or is altered by unexpected factors, such
as static electricity or a fault, repair, mishandling, etc.
The product has various security codes that you can use.
The available security codes are as follows. Do not forget the various security
codes that are set as they are necessary for various operations and contracts.
Make sure to change the security codes from the initial values to your own
numbers.

■PIN code
To prevent unauthorized use of the au Nano IC Card 04 by a third party, you
can set the product to require PIN code entry every time the power is turned
on. You also need to enter PIN code when setting whether the PIN code entry is
required.
If the PIN code is incorrectly entered three times consecutively, the PIN code
will be locked. You can unlock the PIN code using PUK code.
･Entering PIN code is not required by default state. In "Set up SIM card lock",
however, you can change the setting requiring to enter PIN code.
･Note that setting up SIM card lock requires entry of PIN code.
･When an entry of security code is required for making settings, change the
initial value of the security code to your own number and then use it.
･PIN code is set to "1234" by default state. In "Change SIM PIN", however, you
can change the PIN code to any four- to eight-digit number as necessary.
･PIN code is not reset even if you execute "Factory data reset".
■PUK code
In case the PIN code is locked, you can unlock it by entering the PUK code.
･PUK code is an eight-digit number given at the time of purchase, and is
printed on the back side of the plastic card on which your au Nano IC Card
04 is attached.
･After entering the PUK code, you need to set a new PIN code.
･If the PUK code is incorrectly entered ten times consecutively, contact an au
shop, PiPit or Customer Service Center.
The product has a waterproof property equivalent to JIS waterproof grade (JIS
C 0920) IPX5*1 and IPX8*2, as well as a dustproof property equivalent to JIS
dustproof grade IP6X*3 on the condition that the cover of the microSD memory
card/au Nano IC Card 04 slot is securely attached (based on in-house testing).
Before using the product, thoroughly read "Important items to remember before
use" to ensure correct use. Failure to follow the contents described in the
sections might cause intrusion of water, sand or other foreign material, resulting
in overheating, ignition, electric shock, injury or a malfunction.
*1 IPX5 equivalent means that the product will maintain its operability as a
phone even if it is sprayed with water from a 6.3 mm diameter nozzle at a
distance of about 3 meters for more than 3 minutes at a rate of about 12.5
liters per minute from any direction.
*2 IPX8 equivalent means that the product will maintain its operability as a
phone with no water getting inside the main unit even if it is gently
submerged in a tank of still tap water at room temperature to a depth of 1.5
meter for about 30 minutes.
*3 IP6X equivalent means that the product will securely maintain its function of
no grit and dust getting inside the main unit even after it has been placed in
an apparatus with grit and dust of diameters of 75 µm or less and shaken
for 8 hours.
Since operation of the product on each usage scene was confirmed based on
the above assumption, proper operation of the product in every possible
condition during actual use is not guaranteed. Malfunctions determined to be
caused by mishandling by the customer are not covered by the warranty.
･Make sure that the cover of the microSD memory card/au Nano IC Card 04
slot is firmly closed. Waterproofness/dustproofness is only effective when the
cover is securely closed.
･Do not open or close the cover of the microSD memory card/au Nano IC
Card 04 slot if the product or your hands are wet.
･Do not sink the product in liquids other than tap water (seawater, pool water,
water of hot spring, water with soap, detergent or bath salt contained,
alcohol, juice, seasonings, etc.) or do not splash such liquid to the product.
Also, do not use in a place where urine of pet animal is splashed. If it is
splashed on the product, immediately wash the product with tap water.
･Do not put the product directly on sand at a beach etc. Sand or other small
particles might get inside the earpiece, microphone or speaker, causing the
volume to drop. If sand gets inside of the main unit, it might cause
overheating or a malfunction.
･Do not use the product underwater.
･Do not leave the product in a humid place such as a bathroom or kitchen for
an extended period of time.
･Even after draining, water might remain on the product. Although you can
use the product, do not place it near things that must not get wet. Also, take
care not to wet your clothes, bag, etc.
･Drain water if it becomes temporarily hard to hear the sound due to water
remaining in the earpiece/speaker, microphone/speaker, speaker, or second
microphone.
･Do not spray the product with high-pressure water or submerge it in water for
extended periods of time, as the product is not designed to withstand high
water pressure.
･Do not wash the product in a washing machine or ultrasound bath.
･Do not immerse the product into a bathtub. The product is not resistant to
high temperatures.
･Extreme changes in temperature generates condensation causing a
malfunction. Wait until the main unit reaches room temperature before you
bring the product from a cold place into a warm bathroom.
･The product does not float on water.
･Cover of the microSD memory card/au Nano IC Card 04 slot
Make sure that the cover of the microSD memory card/au Nano IC Card 04
slot is firmly closed. Just a small particle (a hair, etc.) between contact
surfaces can cause water intrusion or dust penetration.
Do not open or close the cover of the microSD memory card/au Nano IC
Card 04 slot with gloved hands. Just a small particle (a hair, etc.) between
the contact surfaces can cause water intrusion or dust penetration. Wipe off
any minuscule droplets of water or dirt with a clean dry cloth before closing
the cover.
If the cover of the microSD memory card/au Nano IC Card 04 slot is
deteriorated or damaged, the waterproof/dustproof property becomes
ineffective.
･If any liquid other than plain water is adhered to the product
If any liquid other than plain water (e.g. seawater, detergent, alcohol, juices)
is adhered to the product, immediately rinse it with plain water.
You can wash the product under a mild flow (less than 6 liters per minute) of
tap water at room temperature (5℃to 35℃) at a distance of about 10 cm
from the faucet or showerhead.
If the product gets dirty, wash it with your hands holding the microSD
memory card/au Nano IC Card 04 slot cover so that they do not open. Do not
use a brush or sponge.
･After the product gets wet
After the product gets wet, drain water, and wipe with a clean dry cloth.
In cold climates, water on the product might turn to frost. Using with frosted
might cause a malfunction. Do not leave the product without wiping off water.
･Rubber seals
The rubber seal on the inner edges of the cover of the microSD memory
card/au Nano IC Card 04 slot is important to maintain waterproof/dustproof
property. Do not damage or remove the rubber seals.
When closing the cover of the microSD memory card/au Nano IC Card 04
slot, take care not to get the rubber seal caught. Forcibly closing the cover
with the rubber seals caught might damage them resulting in loss of
waterproof/dustproof property. Just a small particle (a hair, etc.) between
contact surfaces can cause water intrusion or dust penetration.
If any liquid other than plain water (e.g. alcohol) is adhered to the rubber
seals, it might cause deterioration in durability.
Do not insert sharp objects into grooves around the cover of the microSD
memory card/au Nano IC Card 04 slot. Doing so might damage or deform
the product, or damage the rubber seals, causing water intrusion or dust
penetration.
It is recommended to replace the parts for maintaining waterproof/dustproof
property once every two years regardless of whether any abnormality is
present. For information on part replacement, contact an au shop near you.
･Heat resistance
Do not sink the product into boiling hot water or do not splash with boiling
hot water to the product. Also, do not use the product in saunas or do not
expose the product to fiery winds from hair dryer etc. The product is not
resistant to high temperatures.
･Shock
The product is not resistant to shock. Do not drop the product or subject it to
shock. Also, do not poke the earpiece/speaker, microphone, speaker,
second microphone, headset connection terminal, microUSB connection
terminal, etc. with a sharp object. Doing so might damage or deform the
main unit causing water intrusion or dust penetration.
■Precautions on charging
The supplied and optional accessories are not waterproof/dustproof. Check the
following before and after charging.
･Never charge the battery if the product is wet. Doing so might cause fire,
burns, injury, electric shock, etc.
･Check that the product is not wet. If you are charging the battery just after
the product gets wet, drain water well and wipe the remaining water off with
a clean dry cloth.
･Do not touch the specified charging equipment (sold separately) with wet
hands. Doing so might cause electric shock.
･Do not splash water over the specified charging equipment (sold separately)
when using them. Do not use them near water such as in a bathroom,
shower room, kitchen or washroom. Doing so might cause fire, burns,
electric shock, or malfunction. Do not bring them into a bathroom, etc. even
if you do not charge the product with them. Doing so might cause fire, burns,
electric shock or a malfunction.
■Draining water when the product gets wet
Drain the following parts:
Earpiece/speaker, Microphone, Speaker, Second microphone, Headset
connection terminal, microUSB connection terminal, Power key/Screen lock
key/Fingerprint sensor, Volume key/Zoom key, Camera key, the cover of the
microSD memory card/au Nano IC Card 04 slot
･If you leave the remaining water, clothes or bag might get wet or sound
might be barely heard. Drain in the following steps.
aWipe off water remaining on the product with a dry cloth, etc.
bHold the product firmly and shake it approximately 20 times again, then
turn then upside down and shake it 20 times again.
* When shaking the product, check the safety around you and hold it firmly
enough not to drop it.
cIf water flows out from inside of the product, wipe it off with a dry cloth etc.
* Face the product downward and push it on a cloth to wipe off the water.
* Turn the upside down and wipe off the water.
dPlace a dry towel or cloth under the product and leave it for a couple of
hours at room-temperature to dry.
* If the product is not dried enough, you can barely hear the sound. Leave
the product enough time to dry before use.
・The Bluetooth®and wireless LAN (Wi-Fi®) functions of the product conform to
domestic, FCC standards and EC Directive, and has been certified.
・The 2.4 GHz band used by wireless LAN (Wi-Fi®) and Bluetooth®devices is
shared by various other devices. For this reason, the communication speed
and connectable range may be decreased, or disconnection may occur, due
to interference from other devices.
・Do not use the product in places where electromagnetic waves are
generated or near electric products, AV and OA equipment, or other
magnetized devices.
・Subjecting the product to magnetic or electrical noise may increase noise
and prevent it from performing communications. (The product is particularly
susceptible to noise when it used near a microwave oven.)
・Using the product near a TV, radio or similar appliance may cause reception
interference and disrupt TV images.
・The searching might not be successful if there are multiple wireless LAN
(Wi-Fi®) access points near to the product or the same channel is being used.
・Use of mobile phones on board is restricted. Follow the instructions of each
airline.
・The communication speed and connectable range vary depending on the
distance between communication devices, obstacles and the devices used.
The frequencies used by the Bluetooth®and/or wireless LAN (Wi-Fi®) function
of the product are in the 2.4 GHz band. In this frequency band, other similar
wireless stations, in-plant wireless stations for mobile unit identification that
require a license to use, such as factory production lines, specific small power
wireless stations that do not require licenses, amateur wireless stations
(collectively called "other wireless stations" from here on) are operated in
addition to home electrical appliances such as microwave ovens, devices for
industrial, scientific and medical devices.
1. Before using the product, make sure that "other wireless stations" are not in
operation nearby.
2. In the event that instances of radio wave interference have occurred between
the product and "other wireless stations", immediately either relocate the
product or stop operation of the device (stop the emission of radio waves).

LAN (Wi-Fi®) devices have not been confirmed. Therefore, connections with
all Bluetooth®and wireless LAN (Wi-Fi®) devices are not guaranteed.
･This product supports security features for wireless communications that are
compliant with the Bluetooth®and wireless LAN (Wi-Fi®) standard
specifications, but the security may not be sufficient depending on the
usage environment and configuration. Be careful when making data
communication using Bluetooth®or wireless LAN (Wi-Fi®) function.
･Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi®) has the advantage that it can be freely connected

Bluetooth®and wireless LAN (Wi-Fi®) functions of the product use frequencies
in the 2.4 GHz band.
●Bluetooth®function: 2.4FH4/XX8
The product uses the 2.4 GHz band. FH4 uses FH-SS as the modulation
scheme. The interference distance is about 40 m or less. XX8 uses another
modulation scheme. The interference distance is about 80 m or less.
●Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi®) function: 2.4DS/OF4
The product uses the 2.4 GHz band. DS-SS and OFDM are used as the
modulation schemes. The interference distance is about 40 m or less.
･This means that all bandwidths of 2.4 GHz band can be used, and that band
of mobile unit identification devices can be avoided.
･Available channels differ depending on the country.
･For use in an airplane, check with the airline company in advance.
Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi®) function of the product uses 5 GHz band. Using the 5.2
GHz band and 5.3 GHz band outdoors is prohibited by the Radio Law.

communication may be performed automatically by some apps, resulting in
high packet communication charges. Therefore, subscription to a packet
communication charge discount service or flat late plan is recommended.
◎To browse homepages, download apps, communicate using apps, send/
receive e-mails and configure various settings on the product, connection to
the Internet is required and packet communication charge applies.
* Packet communication charge does not apply to wireless LAN (Wi-Fi®).
◎Be sure to check the security of the app, then install it at your own risk. Some
apps might cause virus infection, damage various data, and send out your
location information, usage history or personal information stored in your
mobile phone via the Internet.

This model SOV33 mobile phone complies with Japanese technical regulations
and international guidelines regarding exposure to radio waves.
This mobile phone was designed in observance of Japanese technical
regulations regarding exposure to radio waves*1 and limits to exposure to radio
waves recommended by a set of equivalent international guidelines. This set of
international guidelines was set out by the International Commission on Non-
Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), which is in collaboration with the World
Health Organization (WHO), and the permissible limits include a substantial
safety margin designed to assure the safety of all persons, regardless of age
and health condition.
The technical regulations and international guidelines set out limits for radio
waves as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR, which is the value of absorbed
energy in any 10 grams of tissue over a 6-minute period. The SAR limit for
mobile phones is 2.0 W/kg. The highest SAR value for this mobile phone when
tested for use near the head is 1.346 W/kg*2 and when worn on the body is
0.563 W/kg*2. There may be slight differences between the SAR levels for each
product, but they all satisfy the limit.
This is due to automatic changes to the power level of the device to ensure it
only uses the minimum required to reach the network. Therefore in general, the
closer you are to a base station, the lower the power output of the device.
This mobile phone can be used in positions other than against your head.
Please keep the mobile phone farther than 1.5 cm away from your body by
using such as a carrying case or a wearable accessory without including any
metals. By doing this, this mobile phone complies with Japanese technical
regulations and international guidelines regarding exposure to radio waves.
The World Health Organization has stated that "a large number of studies have
been performed over the last two decades to assess whether mobile phones
pose a potential health risk. To date, no adverse health effects have been
established as being caused by mobile phone use." Please refer to the WHO
