the power and unplug the appliance from the outlet

Purpose of this manual
This manual is the installation manual of Disk Control Board BKSI-2010 and Disk
Control Memory Board BKSI-2011.
This manual is intended for use by trained system and service engineers, and
described the information when installing.

1. Overview
1-1. Overview
BKSI-2010
Disk Control Board BKSI-2010 records the audio/video signal or data from other BKSI-2010 or Encoder
Board to SCSI devices (DDs:Disk Drives), and provides these signal or data played back from the disk
drives to the other BKSI-2010 or Decoder Board.
Interface between BKSI-2010 and other boards (including other BKSI-2010) is Serial Digital Data
Interface (SDDI), and interface between BKSI-2010 and disk drives is SCSI.
BKSI-2010 can process one channel signal for input, and two channel signals for output through the
SDDI. When BKSI-2011 is mounted on BKSI-2010, the BKSI-2010 can process four channel signals for
output.
One BKSI-2010 can control up to seven disk drives.

• BKSI-2010 does not receive Serial Digital Interface (SDI) signal.
BKSI-2011
Disk Controller Memory Board BKSI-2011 is for expanding the memory capacity of Disk Control Board
BKSI-2010.
By installing this BKSI-2011 onto BKSI-2010, BKSI-2010 can multiplex the three or four channel
signals into SDDI.

Flow for installation
2-1. Plug-in Board Installation
General information for installation
•The plug-in board (SCS-4 board) is inserted into any slot
No.1 to No.8 in the front of SIU-80.
•One of the model label supplied with BKSI-2010 is
attached to the shield plate to prevent the board inserting
into the incorrect slot when the board replacement and
others.
•BKSI-2011 (MY-72 board) is used to mount on BKSI-
2010.
A maximum of four combinations (BKSI-2010 + BKSI-
2011) can be installed in SIU-80.
Follow the precautions below when install the combina-
tion.
(1) Install the combination to the slot of even number.
(2) For realizing the heat radiation, set a dead slot (of
odd number) on BKSI-2011.
•In the board replacing, set the setting of the switch
S3301 on a new board to the setting of the removed
board.
Procedures
1. Turn off the power of the SIU-80 and remove the front
panel and shield plate.
(Refer to the Installation Manual supplied with SIU-80.)
2. Insert the board into a slot, and then turn the board
levers in the direction of the arrow 1and connect the
board securely to the connector of the SIU-80’s mother
board.
3. Install the shield plate.
Then, attach the model label on the right side of the
shield plate.
This label position should be aligned with the slot
installing the board.
4. Install the front panel.

If removing the board, turn the board levers in the direction
of the arrow 2, and remove the board from the slot.

2-2. Connector Panel Installation
General information for installation
•The connector panel is inserted into the slot with the
same number as the plug-in board installed in the front
of SIU-80.
•The model label supplied with the BKSI-2010 is at-
tached in the chassis to prevent the panel inserting into
the incorrect slot when the connector panel replacement
and others.

Do not install with turning the power on
Touching the power contact portion or the primary wind-
ing circuit may cause electric shock.
For safety reason, turn off the power and unplug the
appliance from the outlet before starting the installation.
Procedures
1. Turn off the power of SIU-80 and unplug the appli-
ance from the outlet.
2. Remove the rear blank panel. (Refer to the Installation
Manual supplied with the SIU-80.)
3. Attach the model label supplied with the BKSI-2010 in
the chassis near the slot to install the board.

After the connector panel is inserted into a slot, the
model label cannot be seen.
4. Insert the connector panel to the matching slot and fix
the panel by the two screws securing the rear blank panel.
Connector panel removal
1. Turn off the power of SIU-80 and unplug the appli-
ance from the outlet.
2. Remove the two screws securing the connector panel
and remove the connector panel.

•When removing the connector panel, move the panel
to the right and left slowly until the connection with
the mother board is sufficiently loose, then remove
the connector panel slowly.
•Panels must be held by the plugs of the cables which
are connected to the BNC cables.
2-3. Notice in Power on
After installing BKSI-2010 into SIU-80, turn on the power
of SIU-80.
Before turning on the power of SIU-80, always make sure
that the power of the disk drives is set to off. If the power
of the disk drive is turned on before SIU-80, an error may
occur in the disk drives.
If so, turn off the power of SIU-80 first, and next the disk
drives.
Then, turn on the power in the sequence of SIU-80 and
disk drives.

2-4. Location and Function of Connectors
1SDDI IN (Serial Digital Data input) connector :BNC type
Receives the Serial Digital Data Interface (SDDI) signal.

This connector does not receive the Serial Digital Interface (SDI) signal.
2SDDI OUT (Serial Digital Data output) connector :BNC type
Provides the Serial Digital Data Interface (SDDI) signal.
3RS-422A connectors :D-sub 9-pin
Used for RS-422A remote control. SONY DISK PROTOCOL signal is available for this terminal.

This connector does not accept SONY VTR PROTOCOL signal.
4SCSI connector :Differential-P type 68-pin
Connects to SCSI devices using a 68-pin cable corresponding to FAST-WIDE (10 Mbyte/s, 16 bits)
differential type SCSI, which is standard product.

•When connecting or disconnecting the SCSI cable, turn off the power of all units.
•Install differential-type 68-pin terminator at the end of SCSI bus.
