Manual Structure
Purpose of this manual
This manual is the installation manual of the BKSR-2025 MPEG HD Encoder Board
and the BKSR-2035 MPEG HD Decoder Board.
This manual is intended for use by trained system and service engineers, and
describes the information regarding installation.

Explains the how to install the BKSR-2025/2035 to the VSR-2000A, and the
connector and cable information for peripheral equipment connections, etc.
Section 2 Service Overview
Explains the function and factory setting of the switches and LED on the board of
the BKSR-2025/2035.

Section 1
Installation
1-1. Installing Optional Boards
BKSR-2025/2035
Regarding the HD system, this system supports only the 1080/59.94i format. In this case, use the VSR-
2000A in the NTSC mode. (The VSR-2000A does not support the HD signal in the PAL mode.)

Before attaching the boards, check the following. For details of the upgrading procedure, contact your
local Sony Sales Office/Service Center.
.The BKSR-2025/2035 can be used only in the VSR-2000A. It cannot be used in the VSR-2000.
.The version number of the BZSR-2000 Trial version supplied with the VSR-2000A must be 4.00 or
higher. (The BZSR-2000 Trial version is required for changing the configuration of the optional
boards.)
1. When the encoder boards (BKSR-2020/2021/2025) are going to be installed, install the encoder
boards starting from slot No. 1 in order.
.A maximum of three units of the BKSR-2020/2021 can be installed.
.A maximum of one BKSR-2025 can be installed.
2. After installing the encoder boards (BKSR-2020/2021/2025), install the decoder boards (BKSR-
2030/2031/2035) starting from the top slot.
3. Inclusive of the encoder boards (BKSR-2020/2021) and the decoder boards ( BKSR-2030/2031/2035) ,
a maximum of five boards can be installed. (Slot No.6 cannot be used.)

If you have installed the BKSR-2025 already, a maximum of four boards can be installed. (The
BKSR-2025 occupies space of two slots.)
Be sure to attach the blank panel to all of the slots that are not used with the blank panels supplied.
(The cooling function of the fan decreases, and the unit could be not operated normally.)
The VSR-2000A is designed to memorize the configuration of the optional boards when the power is
turned on for the first time after shipment.
To change the configuration of the optional boards, change the setting using the supplied BZSR-2000
Trial version that is packed with the VSR-2000A.
(For details, refer to the Operation Manual supplied with the CD-ROM of the BZSR-2000 Trial version.)

1-2. Board Installation
1-2-1. BKSR-2025
General Information
.The BKSR-2025 can be inserted into slots No.2 to No.5 of
VSR-2000A.
n
To attach multiple boards, attach them from the No.1
slot in order.
.Stick the slot label supplied with the BKSR-2025 onto the
connector panel after the board installation to prevent the
incorrect insertion when the board replacing.
.Do not open the slot to keep the air-cooled effect of VSR-
2000A. Be sure to attach the blank panel to vacant slot.
.It is not necessary to adjust after board installation/re-
placement.
Procedures
1. Turn off the power switch of the VSR-2000A.
2. Remove the four screws, and remove the two blank pan-
els of any slot.

Keep the removed blank panel.

3. Insert the BKSR-2025 to the slot. Push the handle of the
board in the direction of installing, and insert it in the
mother board completely.
4. Secure the BKSR-2025 with the four screws securing
the blank panel.
5. Stick the slot label supplied with the BKSR-2025 onto
the connector panel.
The label’s number is the same as the slot number which
the board has inserted.

To remove the BKSR-2025, hold the handle of the board
and pull it in the direction of removing and remove the
board to the front.

General Information
.The BKSR-2035 can be inserted into any slot exept slot
No.6 of VSR-2000A is mounted to.
.Stick the slot label supplied with the BKSR-2035 onto
the connector panel after the board installation to prevent
the incorrect insertion when the board replacing.
.Do not open the slot to keep the air-cooled effect of
VSR-2000A. Be sure to attach the blank panel to vacant
slot.
.It is not necessary to adjust after board installation/
replacement.
Procedures

of any slot.

1-3. Functions of Connectors
1-3-1. BKSR-2025
1HD SDI INPUT (HD serial digital interface input) connectors : BNC type
To input an HDD serial digital interface (HD SDI) signal.
2INPUT MONITOR : BNC type
This is an output connector to permit you to monitor the HD-SDI signal being supplied. As this connec-
tor does not conform to the standards for proper system lines, limit the output to usages for monitoring.
The output is not obtained when the VSR-2000A is off.
3AUDIO INPUT AES/EBU (digital audio input) connectors : BNC type
To input digital audio signals of AES/EBU format. Connect channels 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, or 7/8.

1HD SDI OUTPUT (HD serial digital interface output) connectors : BNC type
These connectors output an HD serial digital interface (HD-SDI) signal. Connectors 1 and 2 output the
same signal.
2AUDIO OUTPUT AES/EBU (digital audio output) connectors : BNC type
These connectors output digital audio signals of the AES/EBU format. Channels 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8
are output from the corresponding connectors.

When connecting cables to various connectors on the connector panel at the time of installing or servicing,
connect the following connectors/cable or their equivalent.

2-1. Note During Service Work
If static noise is applied to a part of the BKSR-2025, noise may be recorded. Do not touch the connectors
and the panel while recording is in progress. If they have to touched by unavoidable reason, implement
the preventive measure against static electricity so as not to generate static electricity.
