Manual Structure
Purpose of this manual This manual is the installation manual of the BKSR-2030 SDI Output MPEG
Decoder Board.
This manual is intended for use by trained system and service engineers, and
describes the information regarding installation.

Installation
1-1. Installing Optional Boards
1. When the optional encoder boards (BKSR-2020/2021) is used, install it to the slot No.1.
The VSR-2000 can accept only one encoder board.
(The VSR-2000 of version 2.0 and higher can accept three encoder boards at a maximum. In such
case, install them starting from the slot No.1 and higher in this order.)
2. Install the decoder boards (BKSR-2030/2031) starting from the slots No.1 to No.5 from the top.
A maximum of five boards including both encoder board (BKSR-2020/2021) and decoder board
(BKSR-2030/2031) can be installed. (The slot No.6 cannot be used.)
Be sure to attach the blank panel to all of the slots that are not used with the blank panels supplied.
(The cooling function of the fan decreases, and the unit could be not operated normally.)
The VSR-2000 is designed to memorize the configuration of the optional boards when the power is
turned on for the first time after shipment.
To change the configuration of the optional boards, change the setting using the supplied BZSR-2000
Trial version that is packed with the VSR-2000.
(For details, refer to the Operation Manual supplied with the CD-ROM of the BZSR-2000 Trial version.)

Before attaching the boards, check the following and set the switches that are required to be set.
.The version of the VSR-2000 to which the BKSR-2030 is to be attached must be version 2.00 or higher.
.To set or change the configuration of the BKSR-2030 using the VSR-2000, the BZSR-2000 Trial
version must be version 2.00 or higher. If the BZSR-2000 Trial version that is supplied with the VSR-
2000 is lower than version 2.00, please contact your local Sony Sales Office/Service Center.
.Before installing the option boards, the default setting may need to be changed depending on the
operating conditions of the system. Change the default setting in accordance with the operating condi-
tions refer to “2-6. Function of Switches/LEDs on Board” of Installation Manual supplied with the
VSR-2000 and “2-1. Description of Internal Switches and Indicator” of the Installation Manual sup-
plied with the respective option boards.

1-2. Board Installation
General Information
.The BKSR-2030 can be inserted into any slot exept slot
No.6 of VSR-2000 is mounted to.
.Stick the slot label supplied with the BKSR-2030 onto
the connector panel after the board installation to prevent
the incorrect insertion when the board replacing.
.Do not open the slot to keep the air-cooled effect of
VSR-2000. Be sure to attach the blank panel to vacant
slot.
.It is not necessary to adjust after board installation/
replacement.
Procedures
1. Turn off the power switch of the VSR-2000.
2. Remove the two screws, and remove the blank panel
of any slot.

Keep the removed blank panel.

3. Insert the BKSR-2030 to the slot. Push the handle of
the board in the direction of installing, and insert it in
the mother board completely.
4. Secure the BKSR-2030 with the two screws securing
the blank panel.
5. Stick the slot label supplied with the BKSR-2030 onto
the connector panel.
The label’s number is the same as the slot number
which the board has inserted.

To remove the BKSR-2030, hold the handle of the board
and pull it in the direction of removing and remove the
board to the front.

1-3. Functions of Connectors
1SERIAL V/A OUTPUT (serial digital video/audio output) 1, 2 connectors : BNC type
Provides the serial digital interface signal (SDI).
The same signals are provided from 1 and 2 connectors.
2AUDIO OUTPUT (analog audio output) 1 connector : XLR type
Provides the analog audio signal CH1 or CH3.
3AUDIO OUTPUT (analog audio output) 2 connector : XLR type
Provides the analog audio signal CH2 or CH4.
1-4. Matching Connectors and Cables
When connecting cables to various connectors on the connector panel at the time of installing or servic-
ing, connect the following connectors/cable or their equivalent.
