The HOME menu is the starting point to play files, listen to FM radio, and change settings.
To display the HOME menu
1Press and hold the  button until the display comes on.
2Press the HOME button.
The HOME menu is displayed.
3Press the (up) / (down) / / buttons to select a menu and
press  to confirm.

Charging
You can charge your player by connecting it to a computer with the supplied USB cable.
When the remaining battery indicator of the display shows , charging is complete
(charging time is approx. 4 hours*1). Fully charge your player before using it for the first
time.
*1 This is the approximate charging time when the battery power is low and the player is connected to
the computer directly using the supplied USB cable at typical room temperature. The charging time
will vary depending on remaining battery power and battery condition. If the battery is charged in a
low-temperature environment, the charging time will be longer. It will also be longer if you transfer
file(s) to the player while charging.
1Connect your player to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
Connect the small connector of the supplied USB cable to the USB jack on your
player, and the large connector to a USB port on the computer.
After “USB mode” is displayed, “Charging” is displayed and charging starts
automatically.

*2 This is when the Power Saving setting is set to “10 sec” (page 36). The battery duration will vary
depending on temperature and usage.
On the remaining battery indication
The battery icon in the display changes as shown below.
The battery power decreases as shown by the battery icon. When “Low Battery” is
displayed, your player cannot play back. In this case, charge the battery.
Notes
• Charge the battery in an ambient temperature of between 5 to 35ºC (41 to 95ºF).
• While “USB mode” is displayed, you can transfer files from the computer to your player, but you
cannot operate the controls on your player.
• The icon above “USB mode” in the display is animated while the player accesses the computer. Do
not disconnect the USB cable when the icon is moving or the file being transferred may be destroyed.
• Use of the player with a USB hub or a USB extension cable is not guaranteed. Always connect the
player to the computer directly using the supplied USB cable.
• Some USB devices connected to the computer may interfere with the proper operation of the player.
• The control buttons on the player are all disabled while it is connected to a computer.

Transferring files from a computer to your player
You can transfer files from a computer to your player. Follow the procedure below.
1Connect your player to the computer.
“USB mode” appears on the display.
Tip
• Your player is automatically charged when you connect it to a computer with the
supplied USB cable.
2Click [My Computer]-[removable disk:] on the computer.
3Drag the files you want to transfer to your player and drop them to
the removable disk.
You can also transfer files to your player by dragging a folder.
Notes
• This player is unable to use SonicStage software.
• Do not disconnect the USB cable while file is being transferred. If you do, the file being transferred
may be damaged.
• If the USB cable is disconnected while file is being transferred, unnecessary file may be left in your
player. In this case, transfer usable files back to the computer and format your player (page 36).
• Some files may not be played back with the player due to copyright protection.
• Although you can transfer up to 65,535 files, it may take time to start up the player or display the
file/folder list when using many files or folders.
• Folders of up to 16 levels can be displayed on this player.

Listening to audio files
Charge the built-in rechargeable battery before use (page 10) and transfer audio files to
your player (page 12).
Notes
• Before listening to audio files;
− Be sure to disconnect your player from the computer.
− Be sure to deactivate the HOLD function.
• Only MP3/WMA files can be played on this player.
1Connect the headphones to the (Headphone / AUDIO IN) jack
(page 6).
2Press and hold the  button until the display comes on.
3Press the HOME button.
The HOME menu is displayed.
4Press the (up) / (down) / / buttons to select (Music) and
press the  button to confirm.
5Press the (up) / (down) buttons to select an audio file.
To open a folder, press the (up) / (down) buttons to select the folder and press
the  or button to confirm.
6Press the  or button.
The selected audio file starts playing.

Playback stops automatically after the last audio file is played, unless the repeat mode
(page 16) is set.

To pause playback
Press the  button.
Press again to start playback from the paused point.
To stop playback
Press and hold the  button for 2 seconds.
Press again to start playback from the beginning of the audio file.
Tip
If you keep pressing the  button, the player turns off.
To search for an audio file
To Button operation
Skip to the beginning of the next audio file Press the button.
Skip to the beginning of the current audio file Press the button.
Skip to the beginning of the previous audio file Press the button twice.
To display lyrics
When you store a lyric file (.lrc) of the same name as an audio file in the same folder, the
lyrics are displayed during playback.
1While playing an audio file, press the DISP button to select the track
name and lyric mode (page 38).
Tip
• For information on FM tuner display and operation, see “FM menu” (page 20).
Basic Operations
Artist name/album title/track name
Displays artist name, album title, and track
name currently played back.
Lyrics/information display
Lyrics are displayed during playback
(pages 15, 38).
The file information is displayed when you
switch the display mode to Property mode
(page 38).
Playing status indication
Display the current playback mode (:
playback, : pause) and elapsed time.
EQ mode indication
Displays the current equalizer mode
(page 19).
Repeat mode indication
Displays the current repeat mode if one is
set.
Remaining battery indication
Displays the remaining battery power
(page 11).
Current track number/total track
number
Displays the track number currently selected
or being played back and the total number
of tracks. (Not displayed when you switch
the display mode to Track name and lyrics
mode.)

Changing the play mode
You can select the play mode by pressing the REPEAT button repeatedly.
Each press changes the mode icon as follows:

Normal Playback stops automatically after the last
audio file is played.
Repeat All audio files are played back repeatedly.
Single
Repeat
The current audio file is played back
repeatedly.
Folder
Repeat
All audio files in the selected folder are
played repeatedly.
Shuffle All audio files are played back in random
order.
Shuffle
Repeat
All audio files are played back in random
order repeatedly.
A-B
Repeat
The selected section is played back
repeatedly.
Note
• “A-B Repeat” is displayed only when sound is played back.

Playing a specified section repeatedly
(A-B Repeat)
While playing an audio file, you can set the start point (A) and end point (B) for a section
you wish to play repeatedly.
1Press the REPEAT button while playing an audio file.
2Select the A-B Repeat mode from the play mode.
“A ” is displayed and blinks.
3Press  button to set the start point (A) while playing back.
“B” blinks.
4Press the  button to set the end point (B).
“A B” is displayed and the specified section is played back repeatedly.
Notes
• You cannot set A-B Repeat for a section that overlaps two or more audio files.
• If you do not set the end point (B), it is automatically set to the end of the audio file.

Using the menus
3Press the (up) / (down) buttons to select an option and press
the  or button to confirm.
Setting option Description
EQ Selects the equalizer mode from Normal, Pop, Rock, Classics, Jazz,
Bass, or User EQ. When selecting User EQ, you can adjust the
frequency and level using the (up) / (down) / / buttons.
Animation Selects the animation displayed when Animation display mode is
selected (page 39).
Delete* Deletes the selected file.
* Note the following.
– Files cannot be deleted during playback or pause.
– Folders cannot be deleted on the Music option menu.
– If there is no audio file on your player, the “Delete” option does not appear.
4Press the (up) / (down) buttons to set the value and press the
 or button to confirm.
5To set another item, repeat steps 3 and 4.

1On the HOME menu, press the (up) / (down) / / buttons to
select (Music) and press the  button to confirm.
