In the STIHL KombiSystem a number of
different KombiEngines and KombiTools
can be combined to produce a power
tool. In this instruction manual the
functional unit formed by the
KombiEngine and KombiTool is referred
to as the power tool.
The KombiEngine and KombiTool come
with separate instruction manuals.
Always read and make sure you
understand both instruction manuals
before starting and using your machine.
Keep the manuals in a safe place for
later reference.
Pictograms
All the pictograms attached to the
machine are shown and explained in
this manual.
The operating and handling instructions
are supported by illustrations.
Symbols in text
The individual steps or procedures
described in the manual may be marked
in different ways:
:A bullet marks a step or procedure
without direct reference to an
illustration.
A description of a step or procedure that
refers directly to an illustration may
contain item numbers that appear in the
illustration.

Equipment and features
This instruction manual may refer to
several models with different
features. Components that are not
installed on all models and related
applications are marked with an
asterisk (*). Such components may
be available as special accessories
from your STIHL dealer.
Engineering improvements
STIHL’s philosophy is to continually
improve all of its products. As a result,
engineering changes and improvements
are made from time to time. If the
operating characteristics or the
appearance of your machine differ from
those described in this manual, please
contact your STIHL dealer for
assistance.
Therefore some changes, modifications
and improvements may not be covered
in this manual.
Special safety
precautions must be
observed when working
with the power tool.
It is important that you
read and understand both
instruction manuals
(CombiEngine and
CombiTool) before using
the unit for the first time.
Keep the manuals in a safe place for
future reference. Non-observance of the
safety precautions in the instruction
manuals may cause serious or even
fatal injury.
Always observe local safety regulations,
standards and ordinances.
If you have never used this power tool
model before: Have your dealer or other
experienced user show you how to
operate your blower or attend a special
training course in blower operation..
Minors should never be allowed to use a
power tool.
Bystanders, especially children, and
animals should not be allowed in the
area where a power tool is in use.
When the machine is not in use, shut it
off so that it does not endanger others
and secure it against unauthorized use.
The operator is responsible for avoiding
injury to third parties or damage to their
property.
Do not lend or rent your power tool
without the CombiEngine and
CombiTool instruction manuals. Be sure
that anyone using your power tool is
familiar with its operation.
Accessories and Spare Parts
Only mount parts and accessories that
are explicitly approved for this power
tool model by STIHL or are technically
identical. If you have any questions in
this respect, consult a servicing dealer.
To reduce the risk of accidents or
damage to the machine, use only high
quality tools and replacement parts.
STIHL recommends the use of STIHL
original tools and accessories. The
characteristics of these components are
specifically designed to match your
machine and meet your performance
requirements.
Do not modify your power tool in any
way since this may affect safety. STIHL
excludes all liability for personal injury or
damage to property caused while using
unauthorized parts or accessories.

Physical Condition
You must be rested, healthy and in good
physical condition to operate a power
tool. If you have any condition that may
be aggravated by strenuous work, check
with your doctor before operating the
power tool.
Do not operate the power tool if you are
under the influence of alcohol, drugs or
medication that impairs your vision,
dexterity or judgment.
Applications
The blower is designed for clearing
leaves, grass, paper, light snow and
similar materials in yards, gardens,
sports stadiums, parking lots or
driveways. It is also suitable for blow-
sweeping forest paths.
Do not use your blower for any other
purpose since this may result in
accidents or damage to the machine.
Never attempt to modify your blower in
any way since this may also result in
accidents or damage to the machine.
Personal Protective Equipment
Wear proper protective clothing and
equipment.
Clothing must be sturdy
but allow complete
freedom of movement.
Wear snug-fitting clothing,
an overall and jacket
combination, do not wear
a coat.
Avoid loose-fitting jackets,
scarves, neckties,
jewellery or anything that
could get into the air
intake. Tie up and confine
long hair (e.g. with a hair
net, cap, hard hat, etc.).
Wear sturdy shoes with non-slip soles.
Wear safety glasses and
sound barriers (ear plugs
or earmuffs) to protect
your hearing.
Transporting the Machine
Always turn off the engine.
Transporting in a vehicle:
– Properly secure your unit to prevent
turnover, fuel spillage and damage.
Before Starting
Check that your power tool is properly
assembled and in good condition – refer
to appropriate chapters in the
CombiEngine and CombiTool instruction
manuals:
– Throttle trigger must move freely
and spring back to idle position
when released.
– Setting lever/button must move
easily to STOP or 0
– Check that spark plug boot is secure
– a loose boot may cause arcing
that could ignite combustible fumes
and cause a fire.
– A worn fan housing (cracks, nicks,
chipping) may result in an increased
risk of injury from escaping foreign
matter.
– If the fan housing is damaged,
contact your dealer –
STIHL recommends a STIHL
servicing dealer.
– Never attempt to modify the controls
or the safety devices in any way.

– Keep the handles dry and clean,
free from oil and dirt, for safe
control.
To reduce the risk of accidents, never
operate your power tool if it is damaged,
improperly adjusted or not completely or
securely assembled.
See also chapter on "Before Starting" in
the CombiEngine instruction manual.
Starting the Engine
Start the engine at least 3 meters from
the fueling spot, outdoors only – not in
confined spaces.
Your power tool is a one-person unit. Do
not allow other persons within 5 meters
of your own position – even when
starting.
Start the engine as described in the in
the CombiEngine and CombiTool
instruction manuals.
Place the unit on flat ground. Make sure
you have good balance and secure
footing. Hold the unit securely.
As soon as the engine starts, the air flow
may throw small objects (e.g. stones) in
your direction.
Holding and Controlling the Unit
Always hold the unit firmly with both
hands on the handles.
Put your right hand on the control
handle, left hand on the assist handle.
Left-handers should follow these
instructions too. For safe control wrap
your fingers and thumbs tightly around
the handles.
Work at a slow walking pace, forwards
only – make sure you have a good view
of the nozzle outlet at all times. To
reduce the risk of tripping or stumbling,
do not walk backwards.
A shoulder strap may be used (special
accessory in some markets). It takes the
weight of the machine.
During Operation
To reduce the risk of injury, never aim the
airstream in the direction of bystanders
or animals since the air flow can blow
small objects at great speed.
In the event of impending danger or in
an emergency, switch off the engine
immediately by moving the setting lever/
button to STOP or 0.
To reduce the risk
of injury from
thrown objects,
do not allow other
persons within 5
meters of your
own position.
Always shut off the engine before
leaving the unit unattended.
Take special care in slippery conditions
– damp, snow, ice, on slopes, uneven
ground, etc.
Watch out for obstacles: Tree stumps,
roots or ditches which could cause your
to trip or stumble.
To reduce the risk of accidents, take a
break in good time to avoid tiredness or
exhaustion.

Watch out for small animals to avoid
injuring them when blow-sweeping in
open terrain and in gardens.
After finishing work, put the unit down on
a level, non-flammable surface. To
reduce the risk of fire, do not put it down
near easily combustible materials (e.g.
wood chips, bark, dry grass, fuel).
The dust created during operation may
be dangerous to health. If the work area
is very dusty, wear a respirator.
Maintenance and Repairs
Service the machine regularly. Do not
attempt any maintenance or repair work
not described in the CombiTool and
CombiEngine instruction manuals.
Have all other work performed by a
servicing dealer.
STIHL recommends that you have
servicing and repair work carried out
exclusively by an authorized STIHL
servicing dealer. STIHL dealers are
regularly given the opportunity to attend
training courses and receive technical
information bulletins on engineering
changes.
Use only high quality replacement parts
since there is otherwise a risk of
accidents or damage to the machine. If
you have any questions in this respect,
consult a servicing dealer.
STIHL recommends you use only
original STlHL replacement parts. The
characteristics of these parts are
specifically designed to match your
machine and meet your performance
requirements.
To reduce the risk of injury from
unintentional engine startup, always
shut off the engine and disconnect
the spark plug boot before performing
any repairs, maintenance or cleaning
work.
Always hold the unit firmly with both
hands on the handles.
Put your right hand on the control
handle, left hand on the assist handle.
Left-handers should follow these
instructions too. Wrap your fingers and
thumbs tightly around the handles.
The blower’s high air flow rate enables
you to cover a large area.
The blower is designed for clearing
leaves, grass, paper and light snow in
yards, gardens, sports stadiums,
parking lots or driveways. It is also
suitable for blow-sweeping forest paths.
To reduce the risk of injury, do not
operate the machine unless it is fully
assembled with a properly mounted
blower tube.
Watch out for small animals when
using the blower on open ground, in
yards and gardens.

Working Techniques
To minimize blow-sweeping time, use a
rake and broom to loosen the debris.
Recommended working technique to
minimize air pollution:
:If work area is dusty, moisten the
surfaces with water.
:Do not blow debris in direction of
bystanders, especially children,
pets, open windows or vehicles.
Carefully blow debris in the opposite
direction.
:After debris has been blow-swept to
a central point, remove it in trash
cans. Do not blow onto neighboring
land.
Recommended working technique to
minimize noise:
:Operate your power tool only at
reasonable times of the day – not
early in the morning, late at night or
during lunchtime rest periods.
Observe times recommended by
local authorities.
:Operate your blower at the lowest
possible engine speed needed to
perform the task.
:Inspect the unit before starting work
– particularly the muffler, air intakes
and air filter.
Use only KombiEngines supplied by
STIHL or expressly approved by STIHL
for use with your specific model.
The KombiTools may be operated in
combination with the following
KombiEngines:
STIHL KM 55 R, KM 85 R, KM 90 R,
KM 110 R, KM 130 R
The KombiTool may also be mounted to
STIHL brushcutters with a split boom
(T models).
Operation of this KombiTool is therefore
also permitted on the following power
tool models:
STIHL FS 55 RT, FS 83 RT, FS 85 RT

:Push the nozzle onto the blower
tube as far as the lug and turn it
clockwise to lock in position.
To reduce the risk of injury, operate
the blower only with a properly
mounted blower tube.
Mounting
:Engage lug (1) on drive tube in
slot (2) in the coupling sleeve and
push home the drive tube as far as
stop.
:When correctly installed, the small
gap between the intake screen (3)
and the coupling sleeve must be no
more than 5 mm.
:Tighten the wing screw (4) firmly.
Removing
:Reverse the above sequence to
remove the drive tube.
Starting the Engine
Always follow the starting procedure
outlined in the instruction manual of the
basic power tool or CombiEngine you
are using.
Start the engine on a clean, dust-
free surface so that the unit does not
ingest dust.
:Place the unit on the ground – make
sure bystanders are well clear of the
nozzle outlet.

:Make sure you have a firm footing.
:Press the unit firmly against the
ground with your left hand.
Do not stand or kneel on the drive
tube!
The starting procedure is now as
described in the instruction manual of
the basic power tool or CombiEngine
you are using.
Stopping the Engine
:Move the slide control in direction of
arrow ( h) to STOP-O or move the
stop switch to O.
For periods of about 3 months or longer:
:Clean the housing and check for
damage.
:Store the machine in a dry and
secure location – out of the reach of
children and other unauthorized
persons.
Note that the following points apply to
normal operating conditions. If your daily
working time is longer than normal or
conditions are difficult (very dusty work
area, etc.), shorten the specified
intervals accordingly.
