Preface
This manual describes how to install an L180 Tape Library and its associated
tape drives. This manual is intended for StorageTek and authorized third-party
service representatives who will install the L180 Tape Library.
■Organization
The organization of this manual is:
Chapter 1 “About the Library” provides an overview of the library,
describes the components, interfaces, and tape drives.
Chapter 2 “Installing the Library” describes the procedures for unpacking
and installing the library.
Chapter 3 “Installing the Tape Drives” contains the procedures for
installing tape drives in the library.
Chapter 4 “Powering-On the Subsystem” contains the procedures for
connecting the power cable and powering-on the library and
tape drives.
Chapter 5 “Configuring the Subsystem” describes how to configure the
library and tape drives for operation.
Chapter 6 “Preparing the Subsystem” provides procedures to prepare and
test the library and drives before placing them online.
Chapter 7 “Connecting the Interface Cables” explains how to connect the
library and tape drive interface cables.
Chapter 8 “Placing the Library Online.”
Appendix A “Remote Setup” provides information about how to setup the
library for remote maintenance.
Appendix B “Loading Microcode” contains procedures for loading or
updating microcode during the installation.
Appendix C “Library Admin” describes the optional software product that
resides internally in the library.
Appendix D “SNMP” describes the implementation of the Simple Network
Management Protocol (SNMP) for the library.
Appendix E “Specifications” lists the physical, power, and environmental,
specifications for the library.
