2. Description of the moisture measuring device
HPM 3000
The electronic moisture measuring device HPM 3000
serves for determining the moisture (proportion) in
wood, plaster, brickwork and other building materials.
A quick and accurate measurement with corresponding
characteristics can be conducted on the basis of the
conductivity/resistance measurement.
TheLEDdisplayandtheaccompanyingtableforreading
the moisture level make it easy to use the instrument
and this also ensures a quick evaluation of the tendency
of moisture.
Measurements on surfaces or at depths close to the
surface are conducted with the integrated measuring
needles.Afteractuatingthereleasemechanismyoucan
extract the measuring needle head from the housing
and even measure difficult to access areas with the help
of the 40 cm (approximately) coiled cord. When
reinserting the needle head please make sure that it
engages correctly and that the coiled cord retracts into
its designated opening. A pluggable depth measuring
sensor for conducting measurements in plaster and
brickwork and a hammer electrode are both available as
optionalaccessories.

The device switches on automatically as soon as the
protective cap of the measuring needles is removed.
The protective cap is reattached to switch it off again.
The battery status is displayed in the LED for
approximately 1 when the device is switched on.

1. Lightly press the measuring head, in which the
measuring needles are located, into the wood to
be measured.
2. The measurement is conducted automatically
and the measured value can be read from the
display.
The measured value changes as soon as the measuring
needles are removed.

Green area ( 6 – 12 % = air-dry wood)

The red LED Bat. signals that the batteries are empty
and must be replaced.
However, it is still possible to conduct measurements
for a brief period.

The battery compartment is located at the rear of the
measuring instrument HPM 3000.
TwoAA mignon LR6 batteriesarerequired for operation.
The battery compartment cover can be opened by lightly
pressing and simultaneously sliding the cover.
Insert the batteries while paying attention to the correct
polarity and reattach the cover.
Depending on the type of wood being
measured the displayed value must be
altered slightly as a result of the diffe
rent density of the wood. Use the wood
table for this purpose, as it identifies the
exact deviations. The displayed % value
of the HPM 3000 refers to wood type 1.
Thepaint and lacquermanufacturersprovide information
ontheir containers concerning themaximumpermissible
degree of moisture for the material.
Note: If wood has been treated with a
waterproofing substance, then this can
causesignificantlyhighermeasurement
results.

By conducting measurements at different places e.g. in
a damp wall, it is possible to locate the source of
moisture. This is where the depth measuring sensor can
be extremely helpful. Measurements taken at different
times can ascertain whether the level of moisture has
increased or decreased. The search for causes of the
moisturethat has developed isfacilitated by this process.
