OVERVIEW
 These Structural Concepts merchandisers are
designed to merchandise packaged products at
ambient temperatures.
 Cases should be installed and operated according to
this operating manual’s instructions to ensure proper
performance. Improper use will void warranty.
TYPE
This unit is designed for the display of products in ambient
store conditions where temperatures and humidity are
maintained within a specific range.
 Type 1 Conditions (this case): ambient conditions are
to be at 55% maximum humidity and maximum
temperatures of 75 °F [24 °C].
COMPLIANCE - Performance issues when in violation of
applicable NEC, federal, state and local electrical codes
are not covered by warranty.
WARNINGS - This page contains an important warning to
prevent injury or death. Please read carefully!
PRECAUTIONS - Following are important precautions to
prevent damage to unit or merchandise. Read carefully!
WIRING DIAGRAM
 Each case has its own wiring diagram folded and in its
own packet.
 Wiring diagram placement may vary; it may be placed
near ballast box, field wiring box, raceway cover, or
other related location.

CAUTION! LAMP REPLACEMENT GUIDELINES
LED lamps reflect specific size, shape and overall design.
Any replacements must meet factory specifications.
Fluorescent lamps have been treated to resist breakage and
must be replaced with similarly treated lamps.

Risk of electric shock. If cord or plug becomes damaged,
replace only with cord and plug of same type.

CAUTION! GFCI BREAKER USE REQUIREMENT
If N.E.C. (National Electric Code) or your local code
requires GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection,
you MUST use a GFCI breaker in lieu of a GFCI receptacle.

This equipment MUST be installed in compliance with
all applicable NEC, federal, state and local
electrical and plumbing codes.

INSTALLATION
1. Remove Unit From Skid
Slide unit to rear of skid and tip backward off skid.
Case can be repositioned with pallet truck when front
lower panel is removed. Blocking may be necessary
to obtain adequate height.

2. Position & Align Case Alongside Other Cases
 Before adjusting levelers, make certain that the
case is in proper position and, if required, aligned
with adjoining case(s).
 This may require repositioning of the case you are
installing or the already positioned case(s).
 Align multiple units carefully in areas A, B & C.

3. Position & Align Case Alongside Other
Cases
 Before adjusting levelers, make certain that the
case is in proper position and, if required, aligned
with adjoining case(s).
 This may require the repositioning of the case you
are installing or the already positioned case(s).
4. Adjust Levelers
 After case is in proper position, adjust case so it is
level and plumb (see illustration at right).
 You may need to remove front and/or rear
toe-kick to access levelers.
 Use adjustable wrench to adjust leveler.
 Depending upon case weight it may be necessary
to use a pry bar to accomplish this task.
 Do not use pry bar on toe-kick as it may buckle.
 Do not use pry bar on end panel as it may chip.
 Use pry bar ONLY on base frame to avoid
damaging case.

6. Bolting Units Together
Bolt units together at holes indicated.
 Use 1/4-20 x 2.25” bolts for adjoinment locations.
 Model HVP56RSS and HVP56SS.4212 illustrated
below for sample adjoinment locations.

7. Recommendation For Sealing Case To Floor: Use Commercial Grade Sealant
 Use cove molding / base board for any gaps greater than 1/8 inch.

manual for instructions on attaining electrical information for your particular case.

5. Caster Locking / Unlocking Operation
 Certain models may have casters to allow ease of
transport.
 To lock casters (from the unlocked position), press
down on RAISED caster levers (as shown in
illustration at right).
 To unlock casters (from the locked position), press
down on the RAISED caster lever.
 Casters at underside of Model CDR7370 are
shown at right. They may not reflect every feature
or option of your particular case.

START-UP AND OPERATION: BALLAST BOX / ELECTRICAL HOOKUP
1. Ballast Box Access
 The ballast box may be located left rear (from
the customer front) against the end panel
inside the base of the case that contains the
shelves and doors.
 Certain cases may have ballast box located at
rear case (see illustration below-left).
 The box can be accessed by either sliding the
door open and reaching around OR removing
rear panel (4 screws).
2. Electrical Hook-up (Straight Base)
 The electrical box for field hook-up is located in
the front of the base, directly under the bag
holder pan. It is located on the side of the case
the contains the shelves and doors.
 The box can be accessed by lifting the bag
holder pan up and out of place.
3. Electrical Hook-up (Angled Base)
 The electrical box for field hook-up is located in
the rear of the base. It is located on the side of
the case the contains the shelves and doors.
 The box can be accessed by sliding open the
rear storage door and reaching around the
door stop.

START-UP AND OPERATION: LIGHTS [STANDARD vs. LED LIGHTS]
Start-Up And Operation
Warning! Disconnect power before providing
maintenance and service to unit.
Caution: Lamps have been treated to resist breakage
and must be replaced with similarly treated lamps.
Note: Warranty will be void if claims arise from
negligence, misuse of goods, extreme environmental
conditions or improper maintenance. See Overview
And Warnings section in this operating manual.
1. Standard Fluorescent Style Light Fixtures
Removal of lamp:
 Rotate lamp (1/4-turn) either direction to disengage
(upper or lower) pins/contacts from lamp-mounting
sockets.
 Remove bulb by applying even pressure from back
side at the bulb ends and pulling the remaining
contact from sockets.
 See illustrations at top-right.
Installation of lamp:
 Align pins with slot.
 Insert pins into socket by rotating the bulb 1/4-turn to
secure either the (upper or lower) pin contacts into the
sockets.
 Rotate remaining bulb contacts (1/4-turn) into
remaining lamp mounting socket contacts.
 See illustrations at top-right.
2. LED Style Light Fixtures
Removal of lamp:
 If case is provided with LED lights, they will rarely
require change-out.
 Contact Structural Concepts’ Technical Service
Department for replacement parts (see the Technical
Service section of operating manual).
Replacement of lamp:
 To replace LED Light Fixture, simply disconnect the
existing LED light from its brackets and/or
self-adhesive tape. Replace.
 Note: LED Light and Plug must be connected in a
specific manner or they will not work.
 Make certain flat edge of plug connects to flat edge
of LED light.

1. Units Without Light Switches
 Lighting components may be field-wired to
electrical box.
 In such instances, lighting will be operational upon
proper field wiring of case.
2. Units With Light Switches
Front Light Switch Accessible Units:
 Light switch is located on the right-front of the unit.
Rotate the round cover plate to access the switch.
 All of the lights should come on at the same time. First
time lighting may require a short warm up period for
the bulbs.
 Slightly dim or a flickering of new bulbs is normal. If
lights do not turn on, check all of the raceway plugs.
 The lighting is wired in series so all lights must be
plugged in or receptacles capped in order for the
case to light.

2. Rear Light Switch Accessible Units
 On many models, the light switch will be located
on the electrical box on the right rear of the unit.
 See next page for light switch (and fan switch) on
Model CDR5723.

 Light switch and top fan switch is at top area of
front of case.
 All of the lights should come on at the same time
(with a brief flickering as bulb filaments warm up).

Door Holding Mechanism
 Doors can be held open for ease of loading
product into case.
 Retractable plunger pin is provided to lock doors
open and easily return them to closed position.
1. Door Opens and Closes Normally When
Plunger Pin Is Retracted
 Illustration #1 shows plunger pin retracted
(handle raised and setting on top of hex head).
 In this position, freely door opens and closes.
2. Door Locks Open When Plunger Pin Is
Extended
 Illustration #2 shows plunger pin extended
(handle lowered to bottom of side slot).
 Plunger pin is to be lowered into hole in cover,
locking in place
 In this position, door will be held open in locked
position.
 This will allow easy loading of product into case.
 After product is loaded, simply lift handle (as
shown in illustration #1) atop hex head.
 This will raise plunger pin and allow door to close
normally

1. Shelf Assembly Removal
 Remove and set aside glass or wire shelves.
 For lighted shelving, unplug the light cord and
detach from the rear shelf support.
 Slide light assembly back to unlock, then rotate up
to separate from brackets.
 Slide rear support back to unlock and rotate up to
separate from brackets.
 Remove brackets. Note, it may be necessary to
remove the nylon shipping bracket retainer.
Pliers will be required to accomplish this task.
2. Door Actuator Removal
 Remove false deck (No tools required).
 Remove screw from actuator arm.
 Remove 4 screws from actuator cover plate.
 Remove 2 mounting screws that secure actuator to
mounting flange.
 Withdraw actuator.
3. Tissue Box Access
 For most models, tissue box can be accessed
simply by lifting housing up and out (and refilling).
 Model CDR4694 tissue box is accessible by
lowering front panel (by freeing panel from magnet
strips). No screw removal required.
 After refilling tissue box, raise front panel to
reconnect with magnet strips.
 Front panel will securely hold to magnets.
 See illustration below.

MAINTENANCE FUNDAMENTALS: REMOVING SLIDING REAR & FRONT GLASS DOORS & TRASH
1. Removing the Rear Sliding Glass Doors
Note: Doors are not interchangeable. There is an
inner and outer door. The outer must be removed
first and replaced last.
 The outer door is the right hand door (from the
service side or rear of case).
 Move doors toward the center of the case.
 Individually lift each door up toward the top of the
case; pivot the bottom of the door out.
 Carefully set rear sliding doors down to prevent
them from falling.
 Replace in reverse order they were removed.
 See illustration at upper right.
2. Removing the Front Sliding Glass Doors
Note: Doors are not interchangeable. There is an
inner and outer door. The outer must be removed
first and replaced last.
 The outer door is the customer front right hand
door.
 Move doors toward the center of the case.
 Individually lift each door up toward the top of the
case; pivot the bottom of the door out.
 Carefully set front sliding doors down to prevent
them from falling.
 Replace in reverse order they were removed.
 See illustration at lower right.
3. Trash Bin Removal
 Trash bin access and removal methods vary
(and are dependent upon model).
 Illustration below reflects model HVP48.5319F
with fully-removable trash bin.
 Simply grasp trash bin at door opening, lift bin
upward and slide entire unit outward.
 Empty trash bin and return to case.

CLEANING SCHEDULE
Cleaning Daily Weekly Monthly Task
Clean Case
Exterior X The acrylic must be cleaned with a mild soap and
water solution and a soft cloth. Never use a
household cleaner on acrylic.
Clean Case
Interior X Clean glass shelves and mirrors with a household or
commercial glass cleaner. The deck can be cleaned
with a warm soap and water solution.

Remove decking and clean with soap and water
solution and soft cloth. For hardened residue,
submerse in warm, soapy water and scrub with
non-metallic, soft-bristled brush.
X Rear doors and door track: Remove rear doors and
clean with a household or commercial cleaner. Clean
out door track with moist cloth.
X
Remove wire baskets (and clear plastic liners, if any)
and wipe down with soft cloth dipped in warm soapy
water. For hardened residue (or for more thorough
cleaning), submerse in warm, soapy water and scrub
with non-metallic, soft-bristled brush.
X
Toe-kick: To remove dirt, dust and scuffs, clean with
soft cloth or soft-bristled brush dipped in warm, soapy
water. Wipe down with rag dipped in clean water to
rinse away soap residue.
