Before
youcanuse
your
SPT
1700,
perform
the
basic
setup
procedurescovered
onthe
followingpages.
Specifically:
•
Charge
and
Install
the
Battery
•
Start
theSPT
1700
•
Initiate
the
networkconnection(SPT
174X/173X
only).
Installing
the
Battery
To
install
the
battery
in
your
SPT
1700:
1.
Open
the
latches
onthe
batterycover
and
lift
it
away
from
theSPT
1700.
2.
Insert
the
lithium-ionbat-
tery
inthe
batterycompart-
ment,makingsure
it
snaps
intoplace.
3.
Replace
the
batterycover
and
re-secure
the
latches.
Note:
Be
careful
to
posi-
tion
the
battery
latchescompletely
openwhilesecuring
the
batterycover.
Charging
the
Battery
Before
usingyour
SPT
1700
for
the
first
time,charge
the
lithium-ionbatteryusing
the
Cradle,
the
Synchronization/Charging
Cable,
orthe
UniversalBatteryCharger
(UBC).

using
the

Guide.Followthesesameprocedures
to
recharge
the
battery.

the
Cradle
to
Charge
the
Battery
To
charge
the
terminal'sbatteryusing
the
cradle:
1.
Makesure
the
battery
is
installed
inthe
ter-
minal.
2.
Plug
the
cradleinto
a
walloutlet.
3.
Insert
theSPT
1700
terminal
inthe
cradle:
The
terminal'sbattery
is
fully
charged
after
approximately
two
hours.
Youcan
also charge
a
terminal's
sparebattery
by
inserting
itinthe
sparebatterychargingslot
onthe
back
ofthe
cradle.
The
sparebattery
fully
charges
in
approximately
two
hours.
