1. Gettin started
How to use this manual
This manual ives step-by-step instructions for safe and correct fittin and
connectin of the decoder, and operation. Before you start, we advise you
to read the whole manual, particularly the chapter on safety instructions
and the checklist for trouble shootin . You will then know where to take
care and how to prevent mistakes which take a lot of effort to correct.
Keep this manual safely so that you can solve problems in the future. If
you pass the decoder on to another person, please pass on the manual
with it.
Intended use
The locomotive decoders LD-G-32.2 and LD-W-32.2 are desi ned to be
operated accordin to the instructions in this manual in model buildin ,
especially in di ital model railroad layouts. Any other use is
inappropriate and invalidates any uarantees.
The locomotive decoders should not be mounted by children under the
a e of 14.
Readin , understandin and followin the instructions in this manual
are mandatory for the user.

Checking the package contents
Please make sure that your packa e contains:
one or five locomotive decoders, dependin on the version with or
without soldered connectin wires resp. with or without interface
connector;
a CD (containin the manual and further information).
N.B. For technical reasons it is possible that the PCB is not completely
inserted. This is not a fault.

Required materials
For mountin and connectin decoders without interface you need:
an electronic solderin iron (max. 30 Watt) or a re ulated solderin
iron with a fine tip and a solderin iron stand,
a tip-cleanin spon e,
a heat-resistant mat,
a small side cutter, a wire stripper and a pair of tweezers,
electronic tin solder (0.5 mm diameter).

In order to connect decoders without interface or soldered connectin
wires you will need wire. Recommended cross sections:
> 0,04 mm² for the connections to the function outputs;
> 0,05 mm² for the connections to the motor and current collectors.
If you want to connect a decoder LD-G-32.2 to an a.c. motor you need:
a load control adapter LRA (item no. 70-02105 or 70-02106) or
a permanent ma net (e. . item no. 70-04100, 70-04200 or 70-
04300) or
a motor modification set (e. . item no. 70-40110, 70-40210 or 70-
40310).
In order to brid e short current interruptions you need:
an electrolytic capacitor with a capacity of 100 to 470 µF and a
proof volta e of minimum 35 V.
2. Safety instructions
Caution
Inte rated circuits (ICs) are inserted on the decoder. They are
sensitive to static electricity. Do not touch components without first
dischar in yourself. Touchin a radiator or other rounded metal part
will dischar e you.
Mechanical hazards
Cut wires can have sharp ends and can cause serious injuries. Watch
out for sharp ed es when you pick up the PCB.
Visibly dama ed parts can cause unpredictable dan er. Do not use
dama ed parts: recycle and replace them with new ones.

Electrical hazards
Touchin powered, live components,
touchin conductin components which are live due to malfunction,
short circuits and connectin the circuit to another volta e than
specified,
impermissibly hi h humidity and condensation build up
can cause serious injury due to electrical shock. Take the followin
precautions to prevent this dan er:
Never perform wirin on a powered module.
Assemblin and mountin the kit should only be done in closed,
clean, dry rooms. Beware of humidity.
Only use low power for this module as described in this manual and
only use certified transformers.
Connect transformers and solderin irons only in approved mains
sockets installed by an authorised electrician.
Observe cable diameter requirements.
After condensation build up, allow a minimum of 2 hours for dispersion.
Use only ori inal spare parts if you have to repair the kit or the
ready-built module.
Fire risk
Touchin flammable material with a hot solderin iron can cause fire, which
can result in injury or death throu h burns or suffocation. Connect your
solderin iron or solderin station only when actually needed. Always keep
the solderin iron away from inflammable materials. Use a suitable
solderin iron stand. Never leave a hot solderin iron or station unattended.

Thermal danger
A hot solderin iron or liquid solder accidentally touchin your skin can
cause skin burns. As a precaution:
use a heat-resistant mat durin solderin ,
always put the hot solderin iron in the solderin iron stand,
point the solderin iron tip carefully when solderin , and
remove liquid solder with a thick wet ra or wet spon e from the
solderin tip.
Dangerous environments
A workin area that is too small or cramped is unsuitable and can cause
accidents, fires and injury. Prevent this by workin in a clean, dry room
with enou h freedom of movement.
Other dangers
Children can cause any of the accidents mentioned above because they
are inattentive and not responsible enou h. Children under the a e of
14 should not be allowed to work with this kit or the ready-built
module.
Caution
Little children can swallow small components with sharp ed es, with
fatal results! Do not allow components to reach small children.
In schools, trainin centres, clubs and workshops, assembly must be
supervised by qualified personnel.
In industrial institutions, health and safety re ulations applyin to
electronic work must be adhered to.

3. Safe and correct solderin
Caution
Incorrect solderin can cause dan ers throu h fires and heat. Avoid
these dan ers by readin and followin the directions iven in the
chapter Safety instructions.
Use a small solderin iron with max. 30 Watt. Keep the solderin tip
clean so the heat of the solderin iron is applied to the solder point
effectively.
Only use electronic tin solder with flux.
When solderin electronic circuits never use solderin -water or
solderin rease. They contain acids that can corrode components
and copper tracks.
Solder quickly: holdin the iron on the joints lon er than necessary can
destroy components and can dama e copper tracks or solderin eyes.
Apply the solderin tip to the solderin spot in such a way that the
wire and the solderin eye are heated at the same time.
Simultaneously add solder (not too much). As soon as the solder
becomes liquid take it away. Hold the solderin tip at the spot for a
few seconds so that the solder flows into the joint, then remove the
solderin iron.
The joint should be held still for about 5 seconds after solderin .
To make a ood solderin joint you should use a clean and
unoxidised solderin tip. Clean the solderin tip with a damp piece of
cloth, a damp spon e or a piece of silicon cloth.
After solderin check (preferably with a ma nifyin lass) tracks for
accidental solder brid es and short circuits. This would cause faulty
operation or, in the worst case, permanent dama e. You can remove
excess solder by puttin a clean solderin tip on the spot. The solder
will become liquid a ain and flow from the solderin spot to the
solderin tip.

4. Operation overview
4.1. Modes of operation
Digital operation
The locomotive decoder is a multiple protocol decoder, that can operate
with and automatically reco nise both DCC or Motorola formats.
The number of addresses is dependant on the format bein used:
Motorola-Format: 255 addresses,
DCC-Format: 127 Basis-addresses or 10.239 extended addresses.
In the DCC format the decoder can be driven in all speed levels (14, 28
or 128). In the Motorola format the decoder can be driven in 14 or 27
speed levels. Drivin all 27 speed levels can be done only with central
units which support this mode (e. . MasterControl). With central units
which allow 14 speed levels only, it is only possible to select every
second speed level.
Pro rammin the decoders is done:
in Motorola format by settin the re isters,
in DCC format by settin the confi uration variables (direct
pro rammin , DCC conform) or by POM (pro rammin on main =
main track pro rammin ).

Analogue mode
The locomotive decoder can also be used in analo ue model railway
layouts run with a D.C. speed control, and with restrictions with an A.C.
speed control. When puttin the vehicle on the rails the decoder
reco nizes automatically if it is run in analo ue or di ital mode and sets
the correspondin operation mode. The automatic reco nition of the
analo ue mode can be switched off.
Caution
Old analo ue drivin transformers (e. . models in a blue housin
from Märklin**) are not suitable for use with di ital decoders in
analo ue operation! These transformers have been desi ned for the
older supply volta e of 220 V and, due to construction, enerate very
hi h excess volta e impulses when chan in the drivin direction.
When usin them with the modern supply volta e of 230 V too hi h
excess volta e impulses can occur, dama in electronic parts on the
decoder. For that reason only use drivin transformers desi ned for a
net volta e of 230 V.
Switchin the function outputs on or off is not possible in analo ue
mode. They can be pro rammed so that they are either switched on or
off in analo ue mode. The effects set for the outputs are active in
analo ue mode as well.
Outputs to be switched with F0 are switched on or off in analo ue mode
accordin to the direction of travel. When operated in analo ue d.c.
layouts this applies only to lamps or accessories where the return
conductor is connected to the decoder´s common return conductor for all
function outputs.
The decoders´ load control is not active in analo ue mode.

4.2. Drivin of the motor
Pulse width modulation
The different decoder types are desi ned to optimally control their
particular fittin motor types.

Load control
The LD-G-32.2 for DC motors has a load control, the LD-W-32.2 for AC
motors do not have this function.
The load control influences the motor volta e to keep the locomotive
with a set speed level at constant velocity, independent of additional
loads (e. . runnin up a radient, coupled carria es).
It is possible to switch on and off the load control by varyin a CV-
variable of the decoder. The parameters of the load control may be
altered, in order to adapt the decoder to the motor´s individual
characteristics.
Parameters of the load control The load control is determined by
three parameters which have to be coordinated in order to achieve
optimal drivin characteristics. Each of the load control parameters is
assi ned to a confi uration variable. The parameters are:
KP The proportional component of the load control ensures the
difference between the set and the present value bein as small as
possible. It cannot have the value "0" at any time. This component
affects the basic speed. In case the set value is too small the
locomotive runs too slowly. In case the set value is too hi h the
locomotive stutters while movin .

KI The inte ral component of the load control ensures the remainin
difference between the set and the present value is reduced to 0 and so
for the correction of very small diver ences. If the set value is too hi h
the locomotive stutters massively while movin .
KD The differential component of the load control ensures that the
control is not converted too quickly. Is the set value to low then the
locomotive stutters. If the set value is too hi h, the locomotive rocks
while movin .
Velocity characteristic
The decoder can be adjusted to the drivin characteristics of the motor
and the characteristic speed of the locomotive type, by settin the
startin and maximum velocity. From these two settin s the decoder
enerates a linear velocity characteristic.
When the speed level mode is set to 28 speed levels, it is possible to
assi n any motor volta e to all of the 28 speed levels as an alternative
to the linear velocity characteristic. This allows the pro rammin of a
velocity characteristic which adjusts the individual drivin characteristics
of the motor. The set values are saved in the alternative velocity table.
Shunting gear
It is possible to switch into the shuntin ear mode via a function key
(in state of delivery F3), when so pro rammed. In the shuntin ear
mode, the velocity of all speed levels is reduced to approx. 50 %
compared to the set velocity.
Acceleration and brake delay
It is possible to pro ram the acceleration and brake delay individually
via the central unit. When so pro rammed, it can be switched on and
off with a function key (in state of delivery F4).

Emergency stop
It is possible to carry out an emer eny stop at a chan e of direction
automatically, when so pro rammed.
4.3. Function outputs
The decoder has function outputs, which are available to connect
optional accessories (e. . li htin , smoke enerator, sound module,
electric couplin ). The accessories´ number and type to be connected
depends on the outputs´number and maximum current as well as on
the maximum total current of the special decoder (see section 5
"Technical specifications").
Effects of the function outputs
It is possible to set the followin effects for the function outputs
individually:
Switchin on and off dependin on the direction of travel.
Flashin and double flashin . Both the frequency and the keyin
ratio can be set. E. . sin le and double flash li hts or strobe li hts.
Dimmin : Example of use: The electric bulbs of older vehicles made
for analo ue operation can be dimmed and thus must not be
exchan ed after the mountin of the decoder.
Shuntin li ht: You can pro ram the outputs so that they are switched on
enerally durin shuntin operation (to be switched with F3 or F4). The
dependence on the direction of travel will be nullified for these outputs
durin shuntin operation.

4.4. Releasin the functions
The function outputs can be released by pushin the function keys. The
mappin of the outputs to the function keys and the switchin inputs is
arbritary. It is possible to assi n several function keys and switchin
inputs to one output.

4.5. Automated processes
The control software in the locomotive decoder allows you to automate
procedures and to reduce complex processes to one keystroke.
Dimming depending on the velocity
You can automatically switch functions dependin on the velocity when
reachin a speed level defined in a CV. You assi n an individual volta e
to the function outputs for the ran es of speed levels underneath and
above the defined speed level. This allows for example to switch on and
off the hi h beam li ht, to control the cab li ht or to influence the
intensity of the steam output.
Shunting function
You can assi n the shuntin ear and the shuntin li ht to the same funtion
key. That way you switch on the shuntin li ht automatically when
switchin into the shuntin ear (and thus reducin the velocity).

4.6. Feedback with RailCom**
RailCom is a lo for bi-directional communication in di ital model
railway layouts controlled in DCC-format. It allows e. . the feedback of
the address and the CV values from the decoder to the di ital central
unit or to special receivers (so-called detectors). The decoders must be
desi ned to send the RailCom messa es.
When so pro rammed, the locomotive decoders LD-G-32.2 and LD-W-
32.2 send (continuously) the (basic, extended or consist) address to the
detectors (so-called RailCom broadcast data ramm) and transfer a CV
messa e after a DCC CV read-out command.
Sendin RailCom messa es is only possible in layouts with a DCC si nal
on the rails. It is not possible to use the RailCom-function in a pure
Motorola environment.

6. Connections
Note the following comment in order to protect the
decoder from (maybe irreparable) damage!
Avoid all conductin connections between the decoder and
accessories connected to the decoder´s common return conductor for
all function outputs on the one hand and metal parts of the vehicle or
the rails on the other hand. Connections result for example from badly
isolated connectin wires (as well at the stripped ends of connectin
wires not in use) or insufficient fixin and isolatin the decoder or the
accessory, for example. Risk of short circuit! In this case the overload
protection of the decoder is not able to protect the decoder from
dama e.
Before connectin the motor, li htin or other accessories check if
their current is below the maximum permissible values and the total
current is below the safe load. Should the permissible current be
exceeded, this can result in dama e to the decoder.
You should under no circumstances connect the decoder´s common
return conductor for all function outputs to vehicle round. Risk of
short circuit!
Old analo ue drivin transformers (e. . models in a blue housin from
